So for full transparency, Holladay Rickhouse Proof Soft Red Wheat is my favorite bourbon. Because of the distillery's abnormal weekly schedule of being open i planned my return trip accordingly. It was an early Wednesday afternoon and there were only a few cars in the parking lot so i I was a little concerned i had misread when they were open. I grew more concerned when the sign on the door read CLOSED. Fortunately the had just forgot to turn the sign around that day. I didn't have time for a tour (Not even sure if they did tours on Wednesdays.) but still had a wonderful time. For part of the time i had the place to myself so i chatted with the woman working there, enjoyed a couple of there bourbons i haven't had before in their perfectly rustic lounge, and purchased a bottle of their cave aged bourbon that i believe can only be purchased at thedistillery. You were allowed to purchase 2 bottles but i was a little (lot) overbudget on this trip and only picked up one. (Big regret!) It's definitely worth stopping here. read more

We stopped by on a Friday for a group tour. The employees were nice and high-energy, and the grounds were beautiful. The tour started on time and was very informative. It was interesting learning about the history of the company as well as the process of making whiskey. It was quite hot, though. I would recommend going in the spring or fall when the heat and humidity aren't so bad. The tasting at the end is not what I'm used to on distillery tours. For the cost of the tour I definitely expected more from the tasting. read more

My friend and I visit the distillery this past weekend and it was so cool! The weather was absolutely perfect. The grounds that the distillery is on is really beautiful. We took a tour of the distillery and even though it was really cool seeing and hearing about everything, our tour guide kept forgetting parts of the tour and fumbling over his words a bit. A lot of awkward silences of him trying to remember. That was the only hiccup of the experience though. The whiskey is obviously good and the cocktails that we ordered were really good as well. So my friend bought a 30 person private tour of Holladay Distillery and we were invited. Not knowing what to expect we were reserved with our expectations. I'm here to tell you that it was more than we expected and Emma (tour guide), did an absolutely fantastic job and it could not have been better. The food was great, the bourbon (as well as the other cocktails) were fantastic and learning about the entire bourbon making process was incredibly informative and enjoyable! We were a group of three friends who visited primarily to listen to the live music performance. We did not take the distillery tour, and did not drink the bourbon. Even without using the distillery for its primary purposes, we had a five star visit. The grounds were charming, the patio was screened in, and on his particular day, the weather was perfect. The patio and lounge are all set up with large screens for sports watching, And there were water dispensers available for self-serve. Other drinks get ordered from the bar. There didn't appear to be table service. The live music was excellent though there are presumably different performers on various days. there is also outdoor seating with corn hole, rope toss, and a game I won't know the name up, but involves tossing a metal ring onto a hook. We spent about three hours there and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. read more

I am not a bourbon drinker but I am definitely coming back here for the drinks and atmosphere. My friends and I stopped by here and we tried their bourbon. We had 2 of their many cocktails; peanut butter banana split and honey apple crisp. We took the drinks to their beautiful scenic outdoor seating. It was magical, like one of those movie picnic moment. There was a food truck on this day, Nikki-G's soul-Q. The service of the bartenders was wonderful. They were patient with us while we decide on our drinks. The only think I would want them to change is their bathrooms. They only have one male and one female bathroom. My family and I visited this establishment during the holiday season (after all, a Hallmark movie was filmed in Weston!). When we entered, the atmosphere was warm and cheerful. The bartender was very friendly and worked quickly to service all of the guests (the bar top was full) while maintaining a cheerful attitude. She was very helpful in suggesting different shots that we would prefer and answered questions about the different cocktails on the drink menu. I am unsure whether it is a December thing, but this establishment allows you to order 4 shots, 25 cents each! Additionally, I ordered an Irish Chocolate Truffle martini which was dangerously sweet, but very beautiful. I loved the presentation and the taste -- however, beware -- this is DEFINITELY a drink if you're a major chocolate lover. We did a tour here over the weekend and had a great time! We grabbed a drink at the bar before starting the tour which was fun to relax a little before the tour began. I never knew how much history there was with Holladay and I am so glad we made the time to visit. It was so cool to see all the different parts of the distillery and learning which buildings are original to the property. I had no idea the distillery started back in 1856. It is so cool to hear all about the original owner and how it all started. Our tour guide, Alec was awesome and answered everyone's questions. After the tour was over, we went back to the main house to taste some of the bourbon they make. It is always nice to get to see something full circle and how it goes from one thing to the final product. For anyone looking to host an event, they have an event space as well and there was a BBQ event going on while we were there. I wish we had been able to go in :). Overall our experience was great and I highly recommend people get out there and learn the history of this place. read more

A great, quick trip from KCMO is this lovely distillery. We got lucky and got a spot off the waitlist for a tour on Saturday. We started the morning with cocktails and a history lesson. The tour is well worth your time and money! The distillery grounds are expansive and there is a lot to learn. After the tour, we stopped by the gift shop and enjoyed a drink outside. Each drink we tried was well mixed, and they make a variety of cocktails and non-alcoholic options to suit everyone's taste. Also, I'd love to host an event in the event space. This past Friday we took the distillery tour with Seth. Seth was friendly, engaging, well informed, funny, patient - everything you would look for in a host and guide. The bourbon tasting is, no surprise if you are familiar with the brand, very good. The tour itself is stellar and well put together. I have been about 30 distillery tours between Scotland, Ireland and the US. Not all are built the same. Holladay's tour ranks high on the list of the best in the business and offers a couple special moments that I have not seen any other tour. It is an operating distillery, which means the tour is live, hands on. You see every step happening which is far more interesting than looking at dormant equipment. Every taste, sight, sound, and smell is available to the visitor. The facility is historic, unique and beautifully maintained. If you have even a fleeting interest, this reasonably priced tour is highly recommended. They have a nice bar, friendly staff, and beautiful lawn to sit with a cocktail before or after your tour. Holy smokes! What a great experience a visit and tour of the facilities this is. I've driven by for years with little thought but some friends suggested we come along on a tour they'd already taken once and glad we did. An impressive operation, but even more impressive is the tour itself which is packed with a lot more information about distilling spirits than I'm aware of. At the end we had a nice tasting of some of the products, and while I'm more of a single malt scotch drinker than bourbon, the 5 1/2 yr. version of what will be their first 6 yr. from an original recipe dating back over 100 years has all the appearances and taste of being a smashing success. Loaded with hints of butterscotch, a huge nose, smooth long-lasting finish. Utterly satisfying. The visitor center, tasting room, bar, gift shop and all is immaculate, well staffed with friendly folks and there is nothing to detract. The grounds are kept immaculate which adds to the mystique of what's going on here. This tour, which I believe is $25 per (our friends paid) is very well worth the cost, time and effort to get here. I had a conference in the Kansas City area and got in to the airport earlier than expected on Monday. Why not stop by and see a local distillery? I showed up at about 11:30, and the 12 o'clock tour was next. Perfect timing! The tour was very good. Our tour guide, Tanner, told us all about the history of the property, starting with the Lewis and Clark expedition. Then, he went into how distilling got started in the area and how it continues to the present day. He also spent a long time describing how they make their various spirits, and the differences in their processes vs. some of the competitors. We saw one of the storage facilities with over 10,000 barrels...and an awesome smell! The last thing we saw before the tasting room was the bottling plant. We finished the tour with an awesome taste of several different types of spirits that they make on property and sell worldwide. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours. It was a small group of 3, so Tanner took some time. All-in-all, great way to spend a couple hours on a Monday! read more

We discovered this distillery on the way to downtown Weston. The tasting room is beautiful with a a bar where cocktails are made with their different liquors (their recently released bourbon is outstanding). We decided to purchase tickets to attend their Holidays at Holladay event, and I would love to go every year! We were greeted at the main building with a complimentary beverage. From here, we were bussed down to their event space which was COMPLETELY decked out for the holidays, including some carolers outside! There was a special holiday cocktail menu with adorable glasses for each different cocktail. Not only will I return on a regular day, but I would love to come back for another event that they host! read more

Great Tour! Highly recommend this place. Very well maintained grounds. A very functioning and working business as you walk right in the midst of it all. From the bourbon and whiskey barrels being rolled in and filled, to being able to stick you finger in the mash and taste the work in progress, to tasting an extremely high proof straight from the still. (Note: placing your mouth under the spigot is frowned upon apparently). Bring cash for the 25 cents samples or just skip to getting the full size drinks made with their flavored vodkas, or tequilas, and whiskey. Sadley their bourbon is still aging or maturing as they like to say and won't be ready until 2020. I will be back on that day! read more

I was in the area for work and wanted to do something interesting on my way out of town. I had seen an ad for this place at the airport and it was pretty close to on my way there, so I checked online and booked a tour spot. I suggest doing that unless you are OK with dropping in and maybe having to kill a couple of hours in Weston while waiting for the next tour. Based on some of the reviews, it sounded like I was going to need to be prepared to walk miles across the property to get from building to building. I assure you this is not the case. If we walked half a mile, I would be really surprised. We were, however, on our feet for most of the hour plus, so if that is a concern, be advised. We took a shuttle bus from the main building, where we parked and checked in, and stopped in just steps away from the cistern, ancient cave, and original spring. It was just a bit further and a flight of stairs to the brewing and distilling building, and then several stairs up to building C (there was an option to take the bus, but the entire group agreed that the stairs would be fine). That was probably the longest walk of the tour. Our driver/tour guide/bartender was Burrell and he did a great job leading us around and handling questions as they came up. I have been to several distilleries and breweries in the past and it is interesting to see how similar many are, but also the slight differences in processing and material that each one presents on their tours. This one was very informative, especially the part about storing the barrels in the warehouses. The old school "pendulum method" of balancing is not something that I had seen before and was really interesting to me. Sometimes, the best technology is the simplest. The "bung wheel" is also something that I hadn't seen previously, but simplifies loading barrels into the storage area and prevents the awkward conversation about why you need to adjust 500+ lb barrels to prevent them from leaking. At the end of the tour, we were given a couple of samples of our choice of products and a 10% discount at their onsite store, or at the McCormick store in downtown Weston, just a few miles down the road. If you're a fan of Fireball, their "Fireshine" is a cinnamon-flavored corn whiskey that is similar but lighter, smoother, and far less sweet. I'd also recommend the Five Farms Irish Cream, which is an import rather than made onsite, but is awfully tasty. It looks like their 3-year old bourbon will be ready sometime in 2019. Sadly, I was just a bit too early for that. read more

On the second day of our whirlwind Kansas vacation FPO, my favorite sister, my favorite sister-in-law, and I took a road trip into Western Missouri to visit Holladay Distillery (operated by McCormick Distilling Company). Over 160 years old it stands on a pure limestone spring first discovered by Lewis & Clark. We booked an early afternoon tour ($10/person since we're all slightly over 12 years old). They recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early. We got a little turned around and thought we would be late but arrived just in time and browsed their gift shop and reception area for a few minutes. You can purchase mixed drinks or local beers and chow down on complimentary popcorn while waiting. Our guide was Rachelle and she was very nice, knowledgeable, and entertaining. The tour started when Rachelle gathered all of us onto the shuttle for the ride down to the starting location of the tour. All in all it was a very enjoyable and educational experience. We toured the barrel room and distilling area, got to see the limestone wells, the ancient cave, and watched an interesting documentary on the history of the distillery. The Weston area is beautiful. The drive from Kansas City is long but very pleasant. And, with the hills and out buildings around the distillery property there was a timeless quality to Holladay that blended very nicely with the modern distilling machinery and made for a relaxing, enjoyable afternoon stroll. The culmination and highlight of the tour - for some members of our little group who shall remain nameless - was heading for the tasting room where two sample shots are included as a part of the tour. Fortunately, for me included flavored 360 vodkas. There is also a small discount on purchases in the gift shop (I can't remember if it's 10% or 20%) made on the day of the tour. A side note: those vodkas are dangerously good. Make sure you have a DD and high limit on your credit card because drinking and shopping ... a very expensive combination. read more

It was fun to see the place in action! Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and I really enjoyed learning about the history of the property and the company. At the end, we were able to taste their bourbon and Irish creme. Both were good and the bourbon hasn't been released to the public yet! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I feel like the tickets are a little pricey. I'm glad we went, but I don't think we need to go back. read more

I've been on a couple brewery and distillery tours in my day. This is by far one of the most informative and fun that I've been on. There are several building they take you in a tour of and you get to see firsthand the distilling process. I learned more about bungholes than I ever could imagine! They currently only distill their own bourbon and whiskey which isn't available for public consumption unroll hopefully sometime next year. UNLESS you do their night tour which includes a meal and more tastes for $75....the reg is $10 per person. You can order drinks before the tour and you get to taste their drinks up to 2-3 after. You get a 10% discount there or at the McCormick's on Main. There is free popcorn/only food available. Our tour guide, jasmine, was fun and knowledgeable. read more

My wife surprised me for my birthday with a trip to the distillery for a tour and it exceeded all of our expectations! The drive out to Weston was really nice, once you got off of the highway, and our trip to the distillery was a great reason to check out the area. Upon arriving at Holladay, we parked at the main house and checked in for our tour. They have a full-ish bar with all of their brands and spirits. I decided to start the day with a 360 Vodka Moscow Mule and some complimentary popcorn. They rounded up our tour of 16 and we boarded a small bus to drive to the facilities on the back of the grounds. The tour covered the original cave they used for barrel storage, the spring water source, still, and bottling house. We ended the tour with some samples of their various products. Surprisingly, my favorites were FireShine (their much better tasting answer to FireBall) and the Five Farms Irish Cream. All in all it was a fun day! I will definitely bring friends and family when they come to visit KC. read more
