I am sailing with Holland America at the beginning of March to sail to Japan and Taiwan. I was really excited about this cruise. My sister and I cruise often - having been on more than 20 cruises with different cruise lines. However before even going on the cruise I am feeling very disappointed. The prices for drinks are astronomical - even including water! They do not allow plastic bottles of water but talk about cans and cartons. Whoever saw water in cans or cartons! Mind you they are offering 6 16oz bottles of water for $27.60. What a rip off! The drinks packages are also a joke. Upwards of $50 dollars. for a 14 day cruise that makes $700 each!!!! The wine package for 6 bottles is over $200. I have never known such packages at such prices. This is going to be my most sober cruise - maybe the odd glass of wine with dinner! I shall never cruise with Holland America again. They are going to have to work exceptionally hard to make this cruse one that i shall remember for the right reasons - not the rip off ones. We sailed The Maasdam from Montreal to Boston late May. First time on Holland America. In spite of the horrible condition of this ship, our friends and we made the most if it. However, the ship was in disrepair, food so so and public/private spaces not really clean. The stateroom when we boarded had dirty glasses, a lipstick stain on the sheet, scratched furniture, brown water coming out of the shower, shall I go on? Needless to say we called service immediately. Having upgraded to a suite thus was bad form! Furniture looked like a frat party remnant. Public areas were sketchy, broken furniture in The Crows Nest along with cracks in the windows., stains on carpet. Seating worn. Rusted infrastructure.!Want more? Paid for an upscale dining package. Both restaurants had so so food. Gourmet look, cafe quality. Service was good however. There window coverings torn. Buffet was good. Lots of choices. The entertainment in the Ocean Lounge was good but the showroom entertainment was awful. Comedian just not funny, guitarist ok but not personal. The dancers were good. All in all I would say try another line. For the money we spent the Massdam not worth it. We were sad as lots of the elderly guests saved for years for this dream vacation. I personally felt it was a staff training ground . Did hear it goes into dry dock in August for rehab, needs it! Wont stop us sailing but will br leery of this line. read more

transparency.... This company has major issues with disclosure .... Let's start with my upgrade to a vista suite .... I did a side by side comparison from their website .. I thought it's worth it to have a tub.... Upon arrival guess what NO TUB .... Of course they will run your blood pressure up trying to dispute... of course there is a language barrier and everybody is the manager..... please get ready for this ball of confusion... I booked a dinner at a sushi restaurant named Nami Sushi.... Nani sushi is inside of another pan Asian restaurant named Tamarind..... so my reservation was at Nani sushi which was included for free free with my package .... But because my bill said Tamarind my meal was not covered and I was charged an additional 70.00..... when I complained to management they told me to go upstairs and enjoy my free meal...... lol..... I cancelled my upcoming 20 k cruise to Hawaii and told them to have a nice day ..... I will call American Express to dispute my charges .... But for you .. I'd advise you to run and run fast ....this company had taught their representatives that the customer is never right and to snatch every coin before they realize that the honeymoon is over read more

Came to Key West Florida for vacation. Looking forward to the sunset. The first 2 nights it was overcast, not Holland America's fault. On the third and final night of our vacation, the sunset was fast approaching. The Ryndam, Holland America ship decided to leave port at the worst possible time. They wound up blocking the view from the dock for several hundred people. If they just waited about 15 minutes, all would have been good.
