'Planet Organic' sums up everything I find awkward about the growing breed of organic boutique food…read moreshops. While the entrance of the shop is littered with beautifully misshapen, British grown, mud-strewn vegetables, stray much further and the whole environment becomes very clinical. Line after line of jars and boxes offering stir-fry sauces, jam's and sushi sets point eerily in the same direction. Even the deli counter at the back offering its selection of organic 'ready meals' displays its food on black charcoal slates in perfectly straight lines. As a whole the food I've bought has been quite nice but not worth the prices that they charge. Maybe my ideas are too romantic but if I'm looking to buy British and Organic, I anticipate a bit of rustic charm. It's this element that is severely lacking in Planet Organic. This is not a shop that invites you to spend any length of time, if you're in for more than five minutes you'll feel like you're messing up the place!

I suppose. This mini-chain is very similar to my favored "The Grocery" up on Kingsland Road but I just so happen to be down by Spitalfields often enough that I've popped in to this market a few times for the (not-so) essentials. Let's face it, it's a bleak state of affairs down Commercial Street at Tesco Local. I can't even bring myself to go in there. The amount of plastic wrapping and pre-packaged foods just makes me want to barf, no joke. I just can't most of the time, I'd rather go anywhere else. So yes, while As Nature Intended is a bit pricier -- it's also a LOT nicer, has WAY better food things in it and if I want to pay 100 quid for a bag of (basically) snacks, so it shall be done. Sometimes one just wants to feel wholesome, right? Yes. Of particular interest here is their health and beauty section -- well stocked and comprehensive. They carry REN, which I adore and also full range of Wedela which I buy often for the little person in our house. The soups are great, and they have CO-YO (coconut milk yogurt) which is my favorite thing of 2015 thus far. Staff is friendly. You'll be broke but you'll be happy. Good organic food stuffs up in here.

To add the staff are super friendly and delightful whenever I visit, always displaying a smile on their face and asking if any help is required (it is always the small gestures that count). I can literally spend near to an hour browsing the nut butters, chocolate aisle and fruit pantry, and last but not least - they even provide a sink for you to wash your fruit and veg if you wish to consume it straight away. Also, if you are lucky you may be greeted with a sample of peanut butter or other tasty snack to help you through your shop. Holland & Barrett was recently one of these time-warps and before I knew it, I'd spent 30 minutes browsing their, um, aisle. It's not a big location, but I found cleansing detox tea, flax seed, aloe vera supplements, granola bars, daily vitamins, protein powers and a decent selection of gluten free items that I never knew I needed so badly. H&B is a great little shop and it certainly did the cathartic trick for my health-food store craving.

When I was there they had a promotion, buy 1 get a second 1/2 off, though it was a bit confusing to know which items qualified---apparently protein bars do count! That said, I'd go back here mainly because of the selection and location. Menu has hot and cold food without too much unnecessary fanciness to get through. Managing not go give eye contact to the delicious looking treats at the counter, I went for one of their soups, a Thai hot and sour chicken soup. Healthy broth type soup was brought to our table.
