I had a check engine light on my brand-new Ford E350 Motorhome. I initially returned the RV to Camping World, where I purchased it, but they told me it was a "Ford problem" and that they were backed up for months. I then tried Fremont Ford, Sunnyvale Ford, and Mission Ford, but none of them could figure out the issue, despite the Engine Code PO453 indicating an evap leak. I was also hesitant to take my motorhome to a non-Ford repair shop because of warranty concerns. As an RV owner, I couldn't in good conscience take my family on long trips with the check engine light on. At C&E's recommendation, I contacted Ford Warranties and was informed that only Fairfield Ford could work on my motorhome, but they were also backed up for months. Frustrated, I filed a claim to have the vehicle repaired at a non-Ford location, which led me to C&E Trucking. C&E correctly diagnosed the issue as a faulty evap sensor. Unfortunately, the sensor was tied to the fuel system, which required a more extensive repair. They completed the work, and after two years of driving with a check engine light, the problem was finally resolved. This experience taught me an important lesson: big corporations like Ford lack the "local, family-owned business touch" that makes a difference. Their large-scale operations and mass hiring practices often mean their mechanics aren't as skilled or attentive as those at smaller shops. In fact, even Ford employees couldn't direct me to the right place to get my vehicle fixed. C&E Trucking, on the other hand, exceeded all expectations. Liz and her father own the shop, and their dedication to quality service shines through in every interaction. You can feel the pride and care of a family-owned business in the way their employees operate. C&E is hands-down one of the best auto repair shops in the Bay Area. Highly recommend--5 stars!

I was…read morecharged 4.5 hours of labor at $150 bucks an hour for a coolant flush and a glow plug job which I provided him the parts (4 glow plugs and harness). Nothing technical. Out the door price was $685. Granted my coolant system was jacked up! Pudding like crap in my reservoir. I know I have to replace parts but the engine was not over heating. Oil wasn't in the coolant system cause my dip stick on the engine oil was good. I'm no diesel mechanic but damn I could have done a better flush job than that! My system had a little better flow but still had a bunch of crap in the system. (If I only watched the YouTube video before I took it to this shop! ‍‍). On top of a bad flush job(he said he flushed it 5 times?), my check engine light still on from the glow plugs. After $685 bucks any good business person would pull codes out of good faith and see if the glow plugs and harness was working? It only takes a minute to plug the scanner in?? He did not. I'm not saying that he did anything wrong, I knew the charges before hand, but I was in a bind and I thought I could trust his expert opinion. All I want is a trusted mechanic....period. After picking up my car I took it home not any better. Prolly worse cause now I have all the glow plugs on the passenger side throw'n codes. I went home and YouTube'd coolant flush on a 6.0 and it made me even more angry. Remember he charged me $685 bucks worth of "labor". When I flushed it myself all I needed was a baby crescent to open the flush valve under the car and run fresh water through the system while the truck ran. That's it!!! You tell'n me that 4.5 hours of labor required loosening up a hose clamp and sticking a hose with running water in the reservoir to flush the system is all u did??? I feel like cause I just lost $685 bucks....and it's not so much of the money, it's the feeling of being taken advantage of. Come on Joseph....I don't think that was right! You be the judge. I'm sure he's a qualified Ford diesel mechanic, but he's the owner and operator. None of his staff are qualified diesel mechanics. He said it himself. He told me that he has to train them and watch what they do if they work on a Powerstroke. I'm hoping he makes this right. I know he gotta pay bills just like any one but this is just bad business. Please tell me I'm missing something....I hope Joseph can make this right cause I would take this review down in a heart beat.

Eddie took it in and Nate analyzed the problem to find the turbo itself was failing (common for OEM Holsets). Nate recommended an upgraded turbo and Eddie suggested a BD Screamer to maintain Ca compliance. Due to great Dodge engineering the headgasket failed so we upgraded to a Mahle headgasket and ARP Headstuds. Both Eddie and Nate are extremely knowledgeable about turbo diesels! They are the Diesel Doctors! I trust their recommendations and their work was top notch! They went the extra mile in areas to make the repair job last for the long haul. Nate also told us future steps we could take to lengthen the lifespan of the 68RFE transmission (they all fail) and future upgrades. When I dropped off my car, I was told it would be ready around 12:30-1:00 p.m. and that I'd receive a call when it was done. I decided to stick around the area. At 1:00 p.m., after waiting two hours, I walked back to check on the status and found that they hadn't even started working on my car. When I told them I was leaving, the employee suddenly asked if I could wait another 10-15 minutes because he could "start it now". So frustrating. My scheduled appointment meant absolutely nothing until I complained and I was not interested in a rushed oil change... If your business can't honor appointment times, don't offer appointments. Respect your customers' time. I would not recommend taking your business here. I certainly won't be back.

I called around before going, and everywhere else was quoting me anywhere from $60 to $80+. Carlos knows exactly what he's doing, which is why this place constantly has 5-star reviews. Super proactive, super professional, and they even cleaned my windshield while I was there. Seriously, don't waste your time chasing coupons or dealing with nonsense shops. There's a cafe a block away but I check my email onsite and my car is ready! I should time him next time. I think it's been as fast as 12 minutes.

JEDI KNIGHT MECHANICS My beloved 2008 Nissan Titan with 260K miles had an undiagnosable and unrepairable intermittent brake failure problem. Dealerships were unable to repair the problem, parts needed for the repair were unavailable. The highly recommended shop next door to Holland sniffed my truck and decided the job was not worth doing. Holland however was willing to give the old truck a chance. Over a period of 3 months Holland checked all leads, analyzed and tested the entire brake system, and finally fixed my brakes. If they can fix my trucks problem, you should have no doubt that they can take care of your vehicles problem. Labor charges are typical for mechanic shops but you will never be charged an hour for 15 minutes of labor. If their repair is warrantied and their initial repair is inadequate (as mine was) rest assured that the warranty will be honored even if Holland needs to give another week of free labor or travel to the ends of the earth to obtain the necessary parts. I would especially like to thank Trevor, Hiro, and Chris all of them master mechanics who collaborated to help me. I give my highest possible recommendation for Holland Service. read more

This is my first ever review for any business of any type. I am just absolutely amazed and in awe. Chris is amazing, welcoming, down to earth and just kind. I have been taking my Hummer H3 to a service center in Concord, CA for years. My check engine light came on recently, and the Concord place charged me $170 to run a diagnostic. After that, they wanted me to pay $1,800 (after a $400 "discount") to fix my vehicle so the check engine light can go away. I went to Holland Auto Service today. Chris used a small hand-held computer which he plugged into my vehicle. Two diagnostics codes came up immediately. One for an oil change and one for a coolant. After he put oil and coolant in my vehicle, the check engine light disappeared immediately. Total cost? $34, including the diagnostic. My car is running as smooth as silk. I am speechless because it seems to me that the Concord service center had been ripping me off for years. People be careful out there. read more

I asked a fellow East Bay denizen for a recommendation and my friend suggested these folks, who have been servicing her family's cars for years. I was not disappointed. These guys are amazing. Took my car in after not getting it serviced for a while (a good mechanic is hard to find) and I couldn't believe how good these folks were. Super straight forward, happy to explain what needs to be fixed and how they intend to do it, as well as tips for future maintenance. There were a few instances where they could have upsold me some things but instead they explained how much mileage I had left on a specific part. Best of all, they fixed my back window for free! It's been falling down on its own (don't go for the cheapo option when someone decides to break your window) and I'd planned to get it fixed separately. These guys are, like me, car nuts, I know they will take care of my car because it is clear that they love what they do. Also, I like how they stand behind their work. I have had issues in the past where it wasn't fixed right the first time. I like how they take a look at all the possibilities I may have for existing and future issues and lay out what my options are. I feel in control and not like they are pushing a repair that I do not need ( I have a review for another place that is not as ethical). I have been a customer of Holland Motors for many years. It is my go to place for any automotive issues. On my last visit my engine warning light was on. They did a computer diagnosis that said there was something going on with the fuel system. Chris explains to me that this computer diagnosis is often caused by a loose gas cap so he re set the gas cap and told me that this may fixed the issue but if the engine warning light came on again then I need to bring the car in for further diagnosis. This was done for me at no charge. I have now been driving the car for two weeks and the engine warning light has not come back on. Chris was right - the gas tank lid was loose. The folks at this place are absolutely fantastic. I was struggling to find a shop that would work on my classic Jeep Wagoneer, but they welcomed me with open arms. If you are looking for someone honest and that you can trust to work on your most cherished property, you need to take your vehicle to Chris and team at Holland Service at 2203 San Pablo Ave in Berkeley. I have been going to Holland's for nearly 4 years and will not go anywhere else. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. They always take great care of my cars with zero issues. As a woman, it's really hard to find repair shops that are trustworthy and I am very comfortable going to this shop. I don't really know many car shops in Berkeley or on San Pablo Ave. Maybe bacause I have never had to look for another one. I have never had any problem here or with my car later. The manner he berated me, in front of his staff, about his payroll, etc., prompted me to leave, and write a review about his lack of Customer Relations, during this scenario! What he does not get, and never will, is that this was how I felt during his tirade. I have a right to express myself, and not lie about my interaction. It is costing me thousands of dollars out of pocket to fix this with another mechanic. I am currently suing him in court so he can cover those costs as he is reluctant to take any accountability for his actions. In fact, every mechanic I have seen for a quote and diagnostic after I received my car back from him have said that his work was a disgrace to the body shop auto repair industry.
