I can't say enough great things about Holland Service on San Pablo Ave -- and especially Chris. My beloved Lexus had a major electronic system failure -- no heat, no A/C, no reverse camera, and a completely malfunctioning screen. Chris received a $17,000 estimate from the dealer to replace the entire system, which was pretty shocking. Instead of stopping there, he went above and beyond to find a specialized vendor who could repair the system, saving me an enormous amount of money. He also handled all the coordination with the vendor and oversaw getting everything reinstalled and working properly, which made the whole process seamless on my end. Throughout it all, Chris kept me informed every step of the way. His communication and follow-through were excellent, and I always felt taken care of. This came after a disappointing experience with my previous mechanic of six years, who offered no real solutions and treated me poorly despite my loyalty. Needless to say, my loyalty has now shifted. I'm a mechanical engineer who's never let a shop touch my custom 4x4 van (I built it myself). Chris was incredibly thorough and helped us solve multiple issues with our Subaru Outback in no time. Our rear brakes were squeaking. They were under warranty with Holland Service, so they replaced them without any issues. We also knew our front brakes needed to be replaced, so they took care of those as well. While that work was being done, Chris noticed our valve cover gasket, that we had replaced last service, was leaking again, so he replaced it under warranty. When he was fixing it, he noticed the gasket was cracked, and replaced it at cost with no labor. He then promptly put my Jeep on the lift & was able to show me where the noise was coming from . The rear driveshaft u joint was the source. Myself & other mechanics had looked for the source but were unable to find it due to the play in the u joint being very slight. Also when driving, the noise sounded like it was coming from the front of the vehicle. i have never owned a domestic (chevy bolt) car in forever, so when i needed a small fix from accidentally running over a curb, Chris fixed the heat shield underneat the car and charged just the cost to fix the problem. no upselling, just the issue. honestly, this was my small test, because i need a tune-up on my Chevy Bolt as well as my Subaru Outback. I think i'll take both to him now that the dealership 3 year warranty on both cars has expired and paying dealership prices is just silly. read more

They're very popular (I had to make my reservation a couple of weeks in advanced) but I understand why. They make sure the job is done right the first time, and their service was well worth the wait. When I made my appointment, I thought there may be some serious problems as my "check engine" light was on for a while (sorry, car, I'm not the best owner). After dropping my car off, they called me within an hour to assure me that my car was still in great shape and only needed an oil change. No upselling, no exaggeration of problems. They made it so simple. Throughout the day, they continued to fill me in on the status of my car, and they provided recommendations based on openly-communicated observations. They were friendly and professional each call, and I never felt pushed to make additional purchases like with other establishments. With part replacements (air filters, brake pads, etc.), they told me how much longer I'd last without needing to take my car in for servicing again. How did it run after? So wonderfully smoothly. This is the old school kind of shop where you go in, they give you the truth about your car and what's going on. They tell you exactly what's going on with it in a way that anyone can understand. I'm a hairstylist and know nothing about cars but I understand what's going on with mine after coming here. On Saturday my check engine light was on. I was so stressed about it, I woke up Monday morning and brought it here first thing. Long story short, I'm an idiot and the battery connection was loose. Literally just had to tighten it with a wrench and no more check engine light. They didn't charge me anything, didn't make me feel dumb, and didn't rush me outta there once it was discovered that was all it needed. I can't say enough good things about Chris, Robert, Trevor, and the whole crew at Holland Service. 2 1/2 years ago, I bought an older Ford E350 campervan. Not everyone would work on it, due to the height (it's close to 10 feet off the ground at the highest point). They either couldn't accommodate such a height in their shop, or didn't have the space to work on it outside. Other shops had the ability to work on it, but I just wasn't too keen on them, for other reasons. It took a while to find a business who would work on it, who I could communicate with, and also trusted. Holland Service fit all those criteria. They're brilliant. Chris and his crew are honest, reasonable, and stand by their work. Plus, he's open to answering questions from a guy like me, who obviously doesn't know very much, but wants to understand his vehicle a little better. On a couple of occasions, he has steered me away from my own suggestions, to solutions for my van that fit my needs, and my budget, better. I almost feel sorry for people who own newer vehicles, and just take them to the dealership. Every time I go to Chris' place, I always see interesting vehicles, with their own stories. Note that they do tend to get booked up a week or two ahead. Normally, you'll need to book your spot in advance. I imagine they can make exceptions for emergencies, especially for regular and good customers, but be nice, and don't expect miracles. We're all just doing our best here, folks, Be reasonable. I've been a physician (emergency medicine/internal medicine) for decades but always have done my own auto repair work since I was raised as a mechanic and have a decently-equipped garage. I have rebuilt engines, changed clutches, worked on brakes, suspension, and exhaust, etc. My 2015 Nissan XTerra Pro had multiple dashboard warning lights on (ABS, anti-skid, engine light, etc.) and the speedometer didn't work. My OBD Bluetooth fault code reader indicated a wheel speed sensor or control module problem, but I couldn't figure out what it was - I tested all 4 speed sensors and looked at the wheel sensor wiring and everything seemed good. I gave up. Julio at Holland spent several hours tracking down the problem - turned out to be a minor issue, namely corroded grounding wire of the control module cable. I never would have figured it out on my own and Holland gets credit for the great sleuthing work. I willingly paid for the hours of labor, and there were no hefty (and unnecessary) charges for un-needed parts. read more

Been taking my cars here for 4 years now and the staff is awesome. I trust their work and honesty, no BS. I had a 2005 Honda Accord which broke down on me during a road trip through the desert. I had to get towed to a mechanic in Flagstaff AZ whom I had never met and wasn't sure what to think of the diagnostic report.
