Sauce and sweet potato pie! I have been hearing so much good about Halley's and have been waiting for an opportunity to try them out. Today was that day. First thing I have to comment on was how friendly the team working treated me! Friendly, helpful and fun are the words that come to mind! All the customers were just as friendly, good food will do that. For my first visit I tried the ribs with sweet sauce, curly fries and sweet potato pie-all were tasty. The sweet sauce was possibly the best I ever had and a new experience, as it's the first time I had a mustard based sweet sauce and it was amazing! The ribs were tasty and meaty, not quite falling off the bone but delicious! Unfortunately, the fries were cold by the time I got home but still very good. The sweet potato pie deserves it's own paragraph. Excellent! Perhaps the best I've ever tasted! A hint of citrus flavor, maybe? Very flavorful and just the perfect texture. I might just get an entire pie next time I will be back to try both the BBQ chicken and the fried wings, both looked great. I highly recommend this Jacksonville institution but remember it's to go only, no dining room. read more

I have been here a few times I personally don't like the chicken and fries there. I feel like it's way too greasy. But I am a fan of the desserts that they have. I believe the last time I was there I had the blue velvet cake, which is a take on the red velvet cake. The service was pretty fast like I ordered I was able to get my food within about 10 minutes or so. I would just only go there for the dessert in my opinion like the last two times I've had the food it messed my stomach up pretty bad, but it could just be that my stomach isn't accustomed to heavy greasy items. The area is in a rougher side of town due to Holly's being a restaurant that has been open for more than 100 years or so. So you may have your rougher crowd and homeless area populate throughout the area so if that's not your vibe or if you don't wanna be hustle by homeless people then this may not be a spot. The meat was very dry but a good portion. I thought "wow this is retread meat". Possibly left over from a couple of days ago. You must order your food outside "to go" at the window and wait there until they call your order for pickup. I expected more but am sorry to say I was disappointed. read more

If you see a blue building yes you're in the right spot. Park along the street if the spot in front of the building is occupied. Great customer service. Yes the Mac n cheese is banging. Curly Qs with the sweet and tangy sauce is delicious. Now the ribs with the sweet and tangy gonna put you to sleep. A slab can fed 3 people with some left over. The burgers are huge and really good! So this place is for when you are trying to find a fix from like a "hole in the wall" place. Of course those are the type of places you find the best grub. I ordered the chicken wing plate this time. That consists of 5 whole wings fried with your choice of BBQ to any other type of wing sauce you can think ofm I usually choose sweet and tangy (golden BBQ sauce). The plate comes with curly qs, a roll, and a drink about 16oz all $10+tax. Its a pretty sweet deal. Otherwise you may shell out some serious cash if you try purchasing wings individually and adding fries, drink etc. the food is always fresh. Shower er I was disappointed in the curly qs this time. They seem like the bottom scraps of the bag or something. The fruit punch wasn't a hit this time either. It seemed watered down. Not sure if ice was placed in my cup early on or if the punch just didn't have the usual zing to it. Either way if you want traditional fried chicken on the go, this is your spot. Saw Darius Cooks raving about this place, so I checked it out. I wasn't impressed. I tried the chicken with the mustard based sauce and that was good. I ordered the rib tips with the curly fries and it was a disaster! The rib tips was cut so thin and the barbecue started tasting nasty. The special drink which wad nothing but fruit punch kool-aid was not special. Florida hood food is not that good. A 5-Star review... I know, I know. But continue to read and you'll know as well. Holley's is a place that I wouldn't normally go to because it's not on the side of town that I'm usually on, but after watching my co/friends Snapchat I knew I had to try it. Parking is limited, but the wait is short. I was greeted by a man around the same age as me whose customer service was A1! Everything was fresh and hot out of the BBQ grill/smoker, he made a recommendation for me and I ordered it. The ribs and chicken are seasoned before they hit the grill! Y'all don't know how many times I've been to a BBQ joint and they just slap sauce on the meat after its off the grill but show it no love before! Holley's is known more for their fried chicken and curly fries but in my opinion their meat was better than anything I had at Jerome Browns or Jenkins! Oh, and their customer service is better too. I'm definitely going back to try some items that other ppl suggested. Oh, and I gave Holley's 5 stars because I didn't expect their customer service to be amazing like it was... One of the top BBQ places I have tried. Whole chicken and ribs are my go to here. The smell of this place is beyond intoxicating. The customer service is always fantastic as well. What a hidden gem!! I am so thankful I came across this place!! I stopped by just before playing a quick round of golf a mile away. I didn't want to commit to a full meal (and the curly fries look bomb) so I just ordered two ribs for a total of $6.96 after tax. Little did I know, these ribs were massive, full of meat, and took up the entire box diagonally from corner to corner. Came with two pieces of white bread so soak up all the sauce. (Next time I would ask for sauce on the side. It doesn't really need sauce since the ribs have so much flavor already tbh.) Ms Holley did give me a free chicken wing to try since I was gazing at them from the window, and this was ALSO DELICIOUS!! I can't wait to try the chicken and the sides. I wish they had brisket, which is my absolute favorite!! I also wish there was outdoor seating so you could enjoy it all right there! P.S. Don't be afraid if you think it's a bad part of the town. I AM FREAKING OUT AND HAPPY! Thank you Ms. Claudia Jones for telling me about this place yesterday!! I am kind of picky with my bbq. I like my bbq like the way my Dad used to Grill bbq. We happened to be filing our taxes today and we were close by. I had heard great things about this place, so we stopped and bought three 2-rib and curly fry combos(one for Autumn at home). Then I bought baked beans as an extra side and Ernie & Autumn had a side of Mac n cheese. The ribs were very thick, meaty, tender and delicious. There were two slices of bread included in each meal. Ernie let me try the mac n cheese and it tasted like home baked-very good. The curly fries had bbq sauce on them and the ribs. They have three flavors of bbq sauce to choose from:mustard based(we choose this for all three meals), hot & spicy, and sweet & tangy. Now on to my baked beans($2.00):not too good. They had good flavor, but very mushy. I threw them away. The parking is:street parking & there might be one spot in front of the joint. The lady who took our order was wonderful! Ernie wanted to try one of their burgers, but they were not pattied up yet. They open at 11:00 and we were the first customers of the day. Total bill:$34.00, not too bad for the amount and quality of food we had. Autumn and I were only able to eat half of our meals. My husband grew up stopping by Holleys for the "Curly Q"s" on his way home,as a young boy, from the near by park where he played ball. Back then the 'Curly Q"s" cost you a whole quarter. We now live in the Carolinas, but EVERY time we come home to Jacksonville FL we make sure we visit Holleys for "Curly Q's" & wings. Now the "Curly Q's" will cost you a whole $1. Still a great deal!!! 3 years gone by let's see what people are talking about. Walked up to window to place order observed kid picking teeth who took my order. Order rib sandwich pork ribs was boiled and tuff. Not pink to bone like it should be. Wife ordered BBQ chicken sandwich was given a leg quarter wow needless to say it was boiled also and not even fully cook.
