Wonderful French patisserie on Upper Street, close to Highbury & Islington station…read more Although the facade is understated, the widow display is fabulous: orderly rows of wonderfully colourful tarts and pastries. Inside, they have more pastries (including Danish pastries) and savoury tarts as well. They have quite an extensive eating area, so we went for tea and tarts; my friend had the blackberry crumble tart, and I had the pear and almond tart. Both were very nice indeed - my pear and almond tart was wonderfully fresh, not too sweet, but a lovely caramelised texture - a bit of resistance, but not chewy. Staff were friendly and efficient, happy to give advice on their products, and also to let us linger. I'll certainly add this to my list of places to catch up with friends.

A little taste of Paris in Islington. Their window display is magnificent, you literally walk in,…read moretake a few pictures of course, and choose what you want from the window display!! So many choices from the Strawberry Fraisier, to the Paris Brest, Choux pastry (eclairs) Tarte au citron, fresh fruit tart, and the big Macaronde. I of course had to try the big macaronde and I was glad it was the last one, my friend opted for the Strawberry Fraisier. The shop is cute, tables and chairs in the front, they also have a large seating area downstairs, a bit more quieter, perfect for a catch up. They bring your desserts down for you and any drinks you have ordered. The service is efficient. My macaronde was a raspberry flavour, with creme patissiere in the centre, with a raspberry jam, and the coolest thing, came with an injected pipette with raspberry sauce which you squeeze into the creme patissiere. Was a bit solid at first to break, definitely need to use that knife, and crack it open, but once I got past that, was the softest, tastiest, not chewy either, full of flavour that jam, and the extra helping of the sauce made it simply sublime! I actually fell into heaven! My friend loved her Fraisier. Presentation is eye catchy, everything is presented so beautifully! A must recommend if you are in the area!

I will not return to this shop as they have been overcharging. Not the first time this happened…read more Although I do like some of their products I have noticed on my last bill i was overcharged again. My advise look at the bill twice before you leave the store. This time i have paid 10 pounds more. I was charged for 3 melons instead of one and something that was 99 pence i was charged 2.99. My fault for not returning immediately but I no longer believe this is an error as this is not the first time. I was served at till 3 and amount was 71.76 when it should have been around 60.

Have you ever been stalking someone? - Well, I turned in to a food-stalker yesterday...but let me…read moretell you the whole story: I was walking peeking into the window of a bakery on Green Lanes when I overheard the conversation of a couple next to me; she was saying: "This bakery isn't so good...I know a place up the street that my Mom swears by!" This conversationary bit made my rudimentary detective instincts come alive immediately: I folded up the collar of me trench coat, put on my sun-glasses and picked up the trail. The couple, she in pink trainers and he in checkered yoga-pants - blazed their way up North on Haringay Lanes...I stayed behind at a non-intrusive distance and made sure to always look lackadaisically into a shop-window when they happend to turn around... After a few minutes they seemed to have reached their destination, as they disappeared into a store. I waited a few polite seconds until I entered the store as well...and let me tell you, I thought I'd entered Nirwana...at least a Baklava-and-other-Turkish-Pastry-Nirwana! AMAZING!!! I walked around the store for quite a while and I was simply just in awe...my mind began racing: What should I buy? What should I eat now and what should I take home? But, would it even make it home? In the end, I settled on a nice selection of different kinds of baklava-type pastries, which the kind lady behind the counter helped me pick out. Then I discovered a door that would lead into the grocery store next door: a Turkish/Greek supermarket that not only sells amazingly fresh produce, but also features an impressive selection of olives and other mediterranean goods. In fact, in the fridge I discovered "Cyprus Style Pastirma", which was looking so deliciously that I simply had to buy it...even though I had no idea what it would taste like nor how I would have to cook it. I guess I'll figure it out before the expiration date on April 20th... So...in the end I think I have to re-evaluate my opinion on the activity of stalking...at least when it comes to food-stalking. After all, it can make the difference between an ok and a an amazing day out!
