Might wanna SWING by here if you're a golfer in the Triad area, as this course has something for everyone! Holly Ridge features quality golf on a well cared for course that is especially forgiving to golfers who may struggle in the "hit the ball straight" department, as well as a pretty good restaurant on PAR with sports bars in this area. For the golf, Holly Ridge is a typical piedmont course in that there are several altitude adjustments in play throughout your round. Long ball hitters can find themselves at an advantage on holes where there is a descent to the green if they can hit over the hump. The courses main hazards are water which usually come into play off the tee as opposed to on an approach. Beginner golfers who struggle to get the ball in the air consistently might find this challenging. If left and right is your problem, you might find some forgiveness here, as there are usually neighboring fairways or sufficient rough to where finding an off-line ball is easy. There aren't many points on the course where the woods are close enough to make a ball hard to find. The greens in my experience roll pretty true, I have had some days where they are extremely fast due to how sun baked they are. Holly Ridge is home to my third best round, in which I shot an 80. They have recently installed GPS into the carts as well, so you'll always know your distance to the hole, which is really nice. Before that, it was hard to figure out your distance without an app, as there aren't many markers. That said, the GPS can be annoying, as it will yell at you and even disable your cart if you get too close to the green for too long. For the grill, more than sufficient for a ninth hole turnaround. Good hot dogs, ample beer selection at fair prices. Ordering is available from the newly installed units in the carts. If you're looking for a full meal, this is a great place, as they have a decent size menu featuring mostly sandwiches, chicken, salads, burgers, etc. It seems that locals come here just to eat, which by the food taste and price point, sounds good to me! Overall, I really like Holly Ridge. I've been coming here for many years, and have watched this course really come into its own after some renovations a few years back. Ok, this review is coming from someone who barely golfs, if you can call what I do golfing. However, I am married to a former collegiate golfer who played with many PGA pros on tour now. For his birthday, he wanted to go play a round, but we couldn't find a tee time early enough, anywhere. He was so disappointed and I remembered that HR has golf simulators. I called and they had openings all day. For $60 an hour for a bay you can have a top notch simulator experience. While this sets HR apart from all other local courses, there are so many other reasons to choose HR. I have been to Oak Hollow, Bryan Park, Sedgefield, and Grandover... and I have never been treated the way we were at HR. They were so pleasant and happy to have us there. They have redone to clubhouse recently to include the simulators. There are 6 bays, and the room is absolutely gorgeous. The facility is state of the art, and offers range and course options as well as other sports! The bar now sits where the pro shop register previously sat, and they offer all liquors, draft beer, bottles, and standard sodas. The menu they offer is simple but DELICIOUS. I was absolutely stunned at how good the food is. We sat outside by the beautiful patio that is for weddings. It was a perfect day and the perfect way to spend it at the course even if we couldn't get on the course! I can't say enough positive things about HR, and we will absolutely be back! read more

This review is more for the restaurant. I did get to view the green, which was nicely manicured. And my friend said he really enjoyed playing, as well as the fact it was affordable. The restaurant eating area is small but it wasn't busy at all when we went. In fact, we were the only people inside at the moment. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms and onions and a side of fries. My friends ordered the brisket sandwich (they said it was great), wings (excellent), buffalo chicken wrap (excellent), and a kids grilled cheese (which he claimed was "really good" and chicken tenders. The only complaint was the chicken tenders were over cooked. We reordered a cheeseburger instead, which turned out to be great. The service was friendly and the food came out really quickly. I'm not located far from this place and had no idea they had a restaurant until our friend went to play golf there. I'm disappointed we didn't know about it sooner, because this will be a regular place for us now. Quick service, good food, close in proximity, and without the crowds. read more

My wife played here during a golf outing for work and afterward said I would like it. She was right. Even though we have had a lot of rain recently, the course was in good condition. Greens had been sanded as part of fall conditioning, but they were in excellent shape and rolled true. The course is reasonably challenging with a good mix of hole lengths, fairway and greenside bunkers, and water. But almost every green is open in the front so you don't have forced carries. There are four sets of tees (blue, white, yellow, and red). My wife played the most forward tees and this allowed her not to have forced carries over water off the tee. Slow play is the worst, so I am happy to report that we teed off at 2:30p on a Wednesday afternoon and finished by 6:00p -- a 3.5 hour round, which is awesome. We caught up to a foursome on the back 9 and when they saw us they picked up their pace of play. Depending on day and time YMMV. $31 during the week to ride 18, and $23 to walk 18. Course is not flat, but it is walkable if you are in reasonable shape. A correction regarding a previous review: course is no longer cash only. I paid with a credit card. Should also note that they have a nice practice putting green AND practice chipping green (rare in my experience), as well as a driving range. We didn't eat but the grill looked nice. read more

This review is for the Holly Ridge restaurant only. We visited Holly Ridge for the first time to watch Stewart Coley play live music. The restaurant is public and casual dress is fine (we wore shorts and t-shirts). The restaurant isn't readily visible from the parking lot, so head towards the pro shop as you can access the restaurant from there. The restaurant is open seating, so find a seat and adjust your attention to the wall, where you will find the dinner menu if you want to eat. We must have looked confused and out of place, because the couple beside us struck up a conversation and told us that basically everything on the menu is good. That was a common theme during the few hours we spent at Holly Ridge: everyone was extremely nice and outgoing, and went well out of their way to make us feel welcome. Lots of folks randomly struck up conversations with us. Unfortunately, they weren't 100% correct about the food. We both ordered the ribeye steak. Though they were both cooked perfectly (medium rare), the cuts of meat were very fatty. I consistently get much better cuts of meat from the local Harris Teeter. The highlight of our visit was the fun and liveliness of the crowd. No matter where Stewart is playing, he never disappoints, and this particular night was no exception. However, the crowd was so engaged, singing along loudly and having fun, that it made the experience even better. The two bartenders were both tag teaming the dining room, and they did an amazing job. The service was another very high point of our visit. I don't think I would make the 25 minute drive from my house to Holly Ridge just to eat, but I wouldn't hesitate to make the trip if an event or live music was in the cards. read more

Came here with my other and his old man and This was my second time here but first time golfing on a course ever and we had a ball!! Normally I am along for the ride but have recently gotten into golfing and have been working towards getting out on the course and decided that today was my day. Granted it was extremely hot out yesterday, this course was not packed at all and I felt comfortable enough to take my time hitting without feeling rushed. The views are amazing at this course. The staff is all really nice and really know how to make a great Bloody Mary and their chili dogs are great as well. I definitely look forward to playing this course again. read more

This very affordable (cash only) and a quality course. Thus making it busy. The pace is slow, I'll certainly agree. Never seem to not catch up to a group and I've played through 4 groups on the front nine over the summer. Its a fun course and tests your game. One of my favorites in the area. read more

I almost hate to write this review because without question Holly Ridge is the best kept secret in North Carolina golf. The maintenance on this place is evident everywhere you look. Except for two scruffy tee boxes, the course is wonderful. As good as the course is overall, the greens are something special. Fast, smooth and almost mark free, the greens are the course's best defense, especially if you are above the hole. And if the course wasn't so good, the staff and food at the place is exceptional. the people are so friendly and customer oriented here you almost don't notice it because its the way you expect to be treated. I live in Chapel Hill (1hr and 15 min away) and can't wait to play here every chance I get. read more

Good course, horrible staff. Booked tee time online without being able to select number of players. So I was charged for a foursome, even though my buddy and I wanted to squeeze in a quick round. Be careful if you're booking online, bit of a deceptive practice at this course. Staff at the clubhouse was rude and argumentative, didn't offer a fair explanation, rain check, nor did they seem to care that their online advertising wasn't clearly explaining rates. read more
