What started out as a need to repair a broken front door latch turned into a project. I ended up replacing both the door lever and deadbolt on the front door, same for the back door and adding a deadbolt to the service door to the garage. All keyed the same. Throughout, Tim was responsive, professional, cordial and cost conscious. We discussed options and decided on hardware that offered considerably upgraded security at a good value. He even suggested recycling the deadbolt from the front door to the garage service door saving significant cost. His work was efficient and meticulous. Throughout he was affable and informative. My side door was stuck and I couldn't unlock it with my key. (The front door has a locked storm door so that wasn't available.) I called Holt Lock & Key and when he heard I was locked out, he said he could come in about a half hour. The temp was about 6 degrees so I sat in my car in the garage where it was relatively warm. He came as promised and was able to unlock the door. Then he told me the lock isn't the problem, but he could adjust the strike plate so it should be much better now. I've had problems with the lock sticking before in the winter, so it's likely more of a cold weather problem. Anyhow, he was very kind and personable and I was so thankful he could come quickly even though he was in the middle of another job. Thank you!! read more

I had called a few days in advance to make arrangements to have my exterior locks changed. The scheduling process was a simple phone call. On the day of there was a little snafu with my address but it all worked out fine and Tim Holt made it to my place. Tim changed the locks and did a few other things such as: my deadbolt and regular knob underneath it were not the same so he made them all 5 pins whereas before one was 6 and one was 5, he also chipped away at the wood in doors to ensure that the locks lined up and latched properly, and offered his knowledge on why the key would be the same for the deadbolt and lock. Holt Lock & Key delivers friendly and fast service plus at a reasonable price. I had called around to a total of 6 different locksmiths and Holt was the best deal. read more

What a great guy! My front door knob was broken and stuck in the locked position. I went out and purchased a new knob and deadbolt to use as a replacement. I realized the job was trickier than I could handle so I called Tim, after seeing positive reviews online. Tim was able to come same-day. He arrived in a "Holt Lock and Key" van. He let me know that only the latch would need to be replaced and I could return my (expensive) knob and deadbolt set back to Home Depot. So I went with that option. We had a great conversation while he installed the new latch, all said and done in about 15-20 mins! Service call was $70 and with the replacement part and repair, I paid $110. I feel it was worth it! I am glad to know a respectable, reputable locksmith in Minneapolis. I know it will come in handy in the future! read more

We had a situation where we lost the key to a large safe two days before flying out of the country. One of our passports were in there and we called Tim on a Sunday to see if he would be available to come out. Tim was extremely helpful and flexible, as he was the only local locksmith we found who could and would come out on a Sunday (!!).
