We slept so well on that bed and those uber-soft sheets!
    Sandra S.

My husband and I like to go away to a bed and breakfast every year for our anniversary for two nights. We tend to like small places because of the intimacy and romance factor. Holualoa Inn did NOT disappoint! Our stay there was easily one of our top two favorite anniversaries! The staff is awesome! We were treated like we were in our own home and had run of the place both nights. The room was dreamy, the rooftop gazebo had a breathtaking view, the pool was nice and just the right temperature, the downstairs game room had everything you could ask for, the decor was incredible and the service - flawless. They even have bathrooms with showers downstairs by the pool, and will keep your luggage there if you check out and just want to hang out until its time to go to the airport! Ok, so I have to mention breakfast. A-MA-ZING. It is cooked fresh for you when you come downstairs, and made to order. The views from the dining room are incredible. Everyone eats at one table, so we were able to meet the two other couples that were staying there (there are only four rooms, so one was vacant). Note: that was the only time we actually saw anyone else there. We stayed in the Gardenia Suite. Looks exactly like the pictures on the website, with fantastic views. Its their biggest suite (livingroom and bedroom, with adjoining bath) and included a balcony off the bedroom. The sheets are Comphy Sheets - sooooo soft! We ended up ordering a set from the Inn, and they were able to get them shipped from the company to our house on Oahu for free. How awesome is that!? We got the couple's massage in the gazebo one evening, which was awesome. I'd recommend you get it in your room, though, because even though the gazebo was nice, you just don't want to get up and walk anywhere when its over. The furniture they have all over the place is Bali-inspired. Its also all for sale, for a pretty penny. Most of the pieces are very unique. Everywhere you look, there's a place for you to sit and relax, or enjoy the view. We didn't want to leave. It was the first time we'd gone to the Big Island, and Holualoa Inn was a huge reason why the experience was so unforgettable. We will ~definitely~ be back!

I can't rave about this place enough. What a stunning property, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts each morning far exceeded anything you could get elsewhere, and the coffee is unreal. Hats off to he chef, Donald! The entire Inn is immaculate, super comfortable, (those sheets!) and relaxing. We stayed here during our elopement and had reserved the Darryl Hill Cottage. The cottage itself is quite large, full of amenities, and the lanai has a wonderful view overlooking the grounds and out to the ocean. Not quite the same view you get from the main Inn (which is SPECTACULAR) but still one of the best that we found on the island. The only warning is you are up on the mountains with lots of wildlife, so the frogs and birds can get a little noisy. They supply ear plugs and if you close the windows and doors it drowns almost all the noise out. We actually started to find it comforting after a couple of nights, like a noise machine. We split our time on the island between this Inn and the Hilton Waikoloa Village, and I promise I would only ever go back to one of those locations. If you are considering one of the large extravagant resorts- reconsider. This is where you want to be.

Beautiful B&B nestled in the Kona hills. You won't be disappointed. Breakfast is AMAZING! Staff is attentive and helpful. Stayed in the Cottage but rooms down in the actual Inn are beautiful too. Can't wait to go back.

I immediately fell in love with Holualoa Inn from our first site visit and couldn't be happier that we chose them as our reception venue for our big day. The grounds are like none other I've seen on the island - lush, elegant, private and magical in a way that you can only truly understand having visited there. The staff was phenomenal to work with while planning from afar and they went above and beyond to ensure our wedding was a success. My husband and I got married in March 2020 just before COVID reached the islands, and in the week leading up to our big day there was a lot of uncertainty and stress about potential restrictions and lockdowns. The Holualoa Inn staff worked hard to ease any concerns and ensured that us and our guests felt completely safe. Holualoa Inn is easily my favorite place on the Big Island - so much so that my husband and I will be returning to spend our 1 year anniversary there! Thank you to the Holualoa Inn team for creating such a wonderful space, and helping us create our storybook wedding. Mahalo!

    Blissful stay!

The house and property are spacious and so beautifully decorated; a stunning mix of old an new, rich in history and art, not to mention the priceless ocean view. The house was nicely stocked with everything we needed and more. Despite our concerns of not having air conditioning, the house stayed nice and cool with the ceiling fans and ocean breeze. We spent every single evening gathered in the outdoor lanai with friends and family. Every morning was a walk on the beach. And every day we went to bed and woke up to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. I honestly have never slept so well in my life. Plus we saw plenty of turtles up close, right on the beach, and whales breaching right off the coast (unbelievable). The best part of the trip was that all our guests got to enjoy this paradise with us. My family stayed next door at the Zen Cottage and showed off to their friends with daily facebook posts sharing pictures of the view and beach. It was very important to me that they had a good time and I could tell from Day 1 that they were in heaven on earth. Valerie was such a wonderful lady to work with. I am forever grateful that she allowed me to spend my big day there. We were in close contact for the months leading up to my wedding so I had zero stress. I cannot thank you enough! Additionally, Cecilia was nearby on the property to help us whenever we needed her, whether it be to show us where to find things on the property, or help us prep for the wedding. Both ladies are so kind and a true embodiment of the spirit of aloha. I would 100% recommend The Plantation Manager's Beach House or the Zen Cottage to anyone. Please invite me too.

What stood out: Stunning views and prime location- The setting is gorgeous, with great views and a super convenient spot right in the heart of Kona. Tons of amazing restaurants nearby made it so easy to explore. Thoughtful welcome and celebratory vibes- Champagne waiting for us on arrival for our anniversary was a lovely surprise and added a special celebratory touch. Warm, friendly service- The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, which really boosted the overall vibe of the trip. Dons Mai Tai Bar perks- The bar downstairs was convenient, and the two complimentary mai tais on arrival were a fun bonus. Bathroom space and convenience- The bathrooms are a bit small. A towel hook or hook on the door would be handy so towels aren't draped over the toilet. A full-length or extra mirror in the room would also be great, especially since the bathroom can get steamy. Pool and beach access- Extending pool hours a bit beyond sunset and adding a hot tub would be awesome for evening downtime. This may not be a great place for people who are looking for a night life, five star dining, or a busy shopping strip. This hotel is located next to a small road lined up with small restaurants and shops. Personally, we love it. We love it so much we have stayed here twice. Our kids enjoy the easy access from our room to the pool to the beach and back. We appreciate this place for it's simplicity. Our first visit we stayed on a regular floor and felt that some rooms needed a little refresh (although not terrible). Our second visit we stayed in the Marriott Bonvoy floor so the rooms were a little more refreshed (updated). We enjoyed the water refill station, all floors should have one. Staff - Staff has all been helpful and pleasant. Pool staff is the best. Pool - Our favorite place. We spend most of our time here. We love that they give you a wristband now so that it keeps out non-guests. Towels are passed out with a card given at check-in. It's easy and convenient. Pool staff walks around often and takes drink and food orders as needed. Beach chairs are a first come first serve basis, but we've never had an issue finding any. Beach - The convenience of having the beach at your fingertips is unmatched. My kids go from the beach to the pool multiple times a day. The beach is not usually crowded and you can find a spot to lay out a towel. If you would like to rent an umbrella and chair you can visit the rental booth right next to the beach - it is easy and convenient. If you are a hotel guest, you get one free rental (I don't remember the length) during your stay. This is a great snorkeling spot too and you can also rent a paddle board. We usually bring our own snorkeling gear, but renting is available too. Our kids are older and chose to snorkel near the port, but be aware the current/waves are stronger there. I would NOT recommend it for young kids, especially not without a vest. Food - We never ate at the restaurant. We grabbed coffee and breakfast from the coffee shop downstairs. It's pricey, but not bad considering the convenience. We also chose to walk across the street to eat breakfast and lunch. For dinner, we usually took a stroll down the main road to find a place to eat. There are PLENTY of options. Snow cone hours are odd at times, but if it's closed there is a great place across the street as a secondary option. There is an ABC store right next to the hotel. We opted to buy alcohol and snacks to keep in our room in our mini fridge. ___________________________________ MY CON: Sigh.... Our 2nd stay was during the TSUNAMI WARNING on July 29, 2025 - we didn't have a rental car until the next day so we had to rely on the hotel to relocate us to the local high school. It was also my child's birthday so we spent it evacuated. A lot of the guest who didn't have a car had to leave to the high school with no food and no water. We grabbed what we could and lined up for the bus. The ABC closed once the sirens went off, so we were left with no food. We were given NO instructions, we were only told to get on the bus and go. We had only ate breakfast and you can't imagine how hungry we were. No one had a car. No Ubers available. No restaurants open. We were lucky enough to find a worker who was kind enough to take my husband and another dad to a gas station to grab some items for our kids to eat. Yay to gas station sandwiches and Powerades. Once the emergency was cleared (10 hours later), we were allowed to come back to our hotel. Staff welcomed us back with a water bottle and a bag of chips (sigh). I was so annoyed by this gesture. I cannot explain why, because I shouldn't be - but I was. I am grateful and thankful that our family was safe. I am glad that we had the option to be bussed to the evacuation center. HOWEVER, in the future - staff should have an emergency plan in place to share with guest. There needs to be a form of communication for guest to receive updates. We were left with NO information, just dumped off. It was a very scary experience for us and having more details would have helped.
