We always stop by for Mass before we head home after vacationing in the area. We love the conservative and traditional liturgy. Communion is received by intinction and I love that we have to kneel at the communion rail. In this time of relativism and disorder, this place is a diamond in the rough. Love this parish! We have been to pigeon forge on vacation many times and never knew about this Church. Once we discovered it we saw all the negative reviews and knew we would love it. The people were super friendly and the mass was wonderful! And they have a really nice little gift shop. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in Tennessee! read more

This is a throw back to a bygone era! This Catholic parish is fighting the reforms of Vatican. More Latin than helpful to the service! People do not understand the Latin, which is why Vatican II went to masses in native languages. No masks worn by the priest and deacon when giving communion. Kneelers used at communion- again a trademark of Catholics unwilling to abide by Vatican II guidance! Stuck in the past! No way that during Covid, was this style of communion able to socially distance. My guess is that an inordinate number of parishioners came down with Covid and an inordinate number died! Love to visit Holy Cross Catholic Church. Here Fr Stone elevates the Host at consecration long enough for adoration. I had the meditation that the beautiful Smoky Mtns are very healing, however it is Christ himself that is beautifully presented at Mass that we so need for refreshment and healing. Well... here goes nothing.... I love this church and I know the priest well from Chattanooga- I believe it's still Father Moises. I am a convert of 34 years and I've seen both sides of the coin here. I've felt put down by the term or saying "I'm a cradle Catholic "- we are all baptized and humble followers of Christ! We are also ALL sinners in need of Our Lord's Good News! And basically- we should look for the good in all things-ALL GIFTS- that He has given us, and with reverence AND WITH GRACE AND PRAISE AND JOY!! "Judge NOT." Unless someone actually says something judgmental to you- then they aren't- you just feel judged and feel guilty obviously. Read your catechism. No Eucharist if you are living in sin and haven't confessed your sins and been absolved of them- Period. Christ gives us GRACE AND TRUTH. You are not attending mass for anything, but to share at His table! Amen? be with ya'll! read more

This is a reverant church. I didn't experience any of the incidents the other reviewers complain about. Nothing was pre-vatican II. The homily is longer than I am used to but the celebration of mass isn't a train schedule. I attended the 10:30am mass and the church was packed to capacity. People were very friendly in makong space for everyone to sit. I also attended confession here and it was a very positive experience. The AC is on and expect to be cold if you aren't dressed modestly. read more

Well, my daughter Catherine G (previous review) may have been a bit harsh. This is a very conservative Catholic Church and something she's never been exposed to. There were parts of the sevice that I believe were pre-Vatican II I'm a cradle catholic and have never missed Easter mass. This was not a very joyous service unfortunately. read more

This church is amazing. Very reverent Novus ordo Liturgy with solid, orthodox preaching. Best of all the Priest realy stressed reverence for our Blessed Lord truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist. They even do communion at the Altar Rail. They also had a religious goods store that was well stocked with good Catholic literature and beautiful crucifixes and rosaries. For the past 24 months, I have been traveling the US in an RV. I have visited approximately 50 different parishes. I have alway felt that each gave me insight and spiritual food. Some liberal some conservative. Some with poor speakers and some great. This ultra conservative parish made me feel unwelcome. If your political affiliation leans left, DO NOT GO TO THIS CHURCH. This is the first time I EVER walked walked out in the middle of a homily. I am looking forward to a new church next week. read more

On Thursday morning, December 12, 2019, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, my wife and I celebrated our 49th Wedding Anniversary at Holy Cross Catholic Church. We chose the little Church because it was close to our hotel. We arrived early to Holy Adoration - took our breath away! Holy Mass was deeply reverent and respectful - as one should expect being in the presence of our Holy God. Fr. Stone touched our lives with his deeply prayerful demeanor and thoughtfully prepared homily - truly insightful. Fr. Stone, may God bless you. Ultra-conservative. Judgmental. Sunday Mass had lots of Latin. Communion rail. Mostly communion on the tongue.

I am a regular catholic who attends church every weekend. I respect the Catholic Church... but unfortunately not this church. They told the ENTIRE CHURCH "if you are a part time catholic, you know who you are, do not DO NOT! take communion. This communion is for full time Catholics only!!!!!" This church's priest was handing out communion to a child with Down syndrome and put it in his mouth after the father of the child told the priest to put it in his hands. The child was confused, therefore he didn't swallow communion. The father took the communion in his hand and went back to the seat. The priest signaled the usher and sent him to get the host back. They ran out of communion. The priest was also shaking his hands and his head at me and my family. My child left to go to the bathroom and when she came back in, she was told QUOTE "are you trying to go to your seat? Well if you are you are disrespecting our Lord Jesus Christ!!" I feel disgusted and upset that THIS was my easter mass. I am a visitor, but visitors should feel welcomed. Like the other review said, take the time to go to Gatlinburg St. Mary's. read more

I am a local parishioner and people who say this church is not friendly are just out of their minds. All people no matter who are welcomed with open arms, and I cannot imagine who she is talking about. Yes this church is small, but we are always happy to accommodate everyone with making room in the pews for people. Sometimes the service is long, but if you cannot give one hour to ANY church, then you should stay at home. This business of DO NOT TAKE communion, is just observed. I have never heard that in all the years I have attended this church. This lady must have been DRUNK when she wrote that review about not taking communion and unfriendly. Come and experience it yourself to see how nice we are to all people. read more

When we first walked in to church the priest was sitting & talking to other locals in a chair. I politely waited for them to stop talking before I asked where the restroom was for my 3 year old. He did not answer me, someone else did. He did not say hello, smile, or greet any of his visitors. Me and my family were all thinking the same thing, "Man I hope that isn't the priest." Then communion starts & my mother and I were holding a 3 year old & 11 month old in our arms. We went to put out our hands for communion and he said VERY rudely to my mom first then myself, "You cannot get communion in your hand if you are holding a child. It is against our laws." Ok so I opened my mouth and went on my way. Next, we don't see my sister anywhere after communion. After mass ended we find her crying in the car. She was humiliated. She opened her mouth to receive communion and she had a gum in her mouth. (Now I know fasting is appropriate before receiving communion, but with 4 kids on vacation all under the age of 5, life gets hectic and she totally forgot about gum) So he tells her very stern and rude after he had already put the host in her mouth "Is that gum in your mouth?" She shakes her head yes. He then tells her "spit the host out now in my hand"...she is blown away & does as she is told. After mass, he gets on the alter and tells the whole church about how 3 people came to communion holding children & one person even came with gum in her mouth.. This was very humiliating...I cannot believe a man of god can make another person feel so little. Our family were all very shocked about this whole incident. We are on vacation, putting god first to get our amazing day in the beautiful mountains started and he treats us this way. After leaving we didn't feel anything amazing. We felt hurt, embarrassed, & angry. I want to save others from ruining their day & going to this church. PLEASE CHOOSE ANOTHER!!! read more

If you want to get the real Catholic Church Go to Holy Cross in Pigeon Forge Tn. Father Stone tell it as it is. Many catholic are leaving the church because they think they are left out but Father Stone brings the word of Christ to the people some people just want the in and out version of the church they don't remember why they are there, Christ is present in the mass. Rambled on for 45 minute homily that made no sense whatsoever-could not stay on topic and make a point. Sadly, I have to add my voice to the previous reviewer's. At first, I thought she must have been referencing the Mass we attended because we had a very similar negative experience with Fr. Ron Stone. It was not - we attended a few weeks later. I hesitate to leave such a negative review but it would be well worth your effort to travel into Gatlinburg and attend St. Mary's instead. read more
