If I could leave zero stars, I would. If you love your family member do not take them here. A veterinarian would be a better choice than this hospital. My mother had a liver abscess and they let her wait in the ER for 9 hours. 9 HOURS. No one knew anything for 10 days. They drew her blood 6 times a day, did a dozen CTs and no one ever knew ANYTHING. It took nurses over 2 hours to bring her something for pain, they didn't bathe her in 10 days. They discharged her with a drain and no plan. Absolutely atrocious. They should be ashamed of themselves. And to think it's a Catholic hospital. Needless to say, my mother ended up needing to go to the hospital AGAIN after being home a week and I took her to St Mary's instead. GO THERE!! We are so happy with the care she received. Don't go to any Holy Redeemer sites for X-rays, CT scans, MRI's or ultrasounds. Apparently it takes them 5 DAYS to read them. What has happened to Holy Redeemer Somerton Family Practice? No lab services. No appts for months. No getting doctor or office on the phone. No one greeting you at the door. These were things we relied on and appreciated. We are an elderly population and now left in the dark. Most of us cannot use the computer! Come on! It is so hard to find quality care. I will say that used to be you. Mike Laign took care of us for years. The Sisters have always been dedicated to us. It is probably health insurances fault. I wish we could go back 10 years. When my health is failing, there is no one to help. Please pray for a change to our systems in crisis. read more

I could not believe the kind of care that is done at this ER. The doctor was nice but he wasn't going to see me before I left. He had to be called in. The nurse was going to discharge me without having the doctor go over any of my bloodwork or ct scan. She just wanted to sign me out so she could move on. They weren't even busy. All I heard for two hours while waiting was the staff at the desks gossiping about other staff and what plans they had for the weekend. The transporter was telling me (so awkward by the way) how much he hated it there, they get paid less than McDonald's, everyone has drama in the ER and he wasn't talking about the patients, and how they don't pay him enough to care. He was telling me so much and I was so uncomfortable and didn't even want to talk especially while I'm in pain waiting for CT. the nurse made a comment that since I didn't take my Valium maybe she would pocket it for herself for later use. Completely unprofessional on EVERY level. We had to bring the doctor back in to go over my results. I will not come back here unless if I absolutely had ZERO choice. I should've read the other reviews. It's completely true. I'm in shock. read more

I was wrongfully treated at this hospital in October 2024. Procedures were performed without my consent (Actually after I specifically denied them), and doctors refused to help me when I complained that I could not breath. I ruptured my appendix back in Oct 2024 and in the ER they have shared rooms. The doctors told the person next to me (there for anxiety) that they ruptured their appendix. Yeah. I had to step in and tell them they were talking to the WRONG PATIENT! Then they kept lying to me telling me I was going to have surgery asap. Turns out, that was a lie and they had my surgery planned for the next day the whole time. After surgery, I asked 7 times for my husband. They told me he was on his way. I found out from my husband he was in the next room and they never came to grab him for over an hour. Nobody told me I was not supposed to eat right after the surgery. So I got a jell-o cup and immediately threw up and the nurses blamed me. The doctor (not my surgeon she was the only positive) that came after the surgery, was the worst. I was in the worst pain in a supine position and he told me he didnt care and put the bed all the way down as i screamed so he could give me a shot I actually REFUSED. I was not "all there" because of all of the drugs I was on and my husband had to scream at a nurse because they refused to have me see a pulmonologist when I said I couldn't breathe (pulse ox was 89%) because "I was young and didn't have COPD". I was treated like a child even though I was 27 years old with my husband. I had to call my mom to be a mama bear and finally things started happening. We complained to the head of the nursing staff but they listened to us but did nothing about it. And we never heard from them about our complaint. This place should be shut down for the wrongful care I received. Or at least those nurses and doctors fired. I got pneumonia in the hospital due to their negligence. And I had to stay in the hospital longer than expected. Once I left, I cried (not like me) because I was in so much shock for now I was treated. As I was leaving one of the (actually nice) nurses told me I was "lucky to be alive" and that I was so fortunate to have a mother and a husband to advocate for me like that. The assigned nurse Jason in the cardiac unit chose not to inform me that my discharge order was signed at 12:09PM, rather chose to lie when asked why I was not being prepared for discharge at 1:00PM. He instead decided to argue with me until my sister-in-law phoned at approximately 2:00PM, at which point he printed out my discharge paperwork. Of course as a person who suffered a heart attack late last week and received 4 stents from Sunday to Tuesday, I was not taken to the patient pick-up via wheel chair, rather allowed to walk from the cardiac unit on the third floor to the pickup area, hoping my ride was there. This was an unfortunate experience, given the cardiologists, and other cardiac nurses provided excellent care. However, I would not take the risk of every utilizing Holy Redeemer again. read more

My dad was referred to the Wound Care Center and we just finished 6 weeks of treatment. The entire office staff were kind, knowledgeable and so helpful! They remembered my dad and I as of the second visit, asked about things he had shared in previous visits and just made him feel so cared for - because he WAS so well cared for! The doctor was kind and informative, never judgmental. I recommend the Wound Care Center wholeheartedly. Thank you to the team for the wonderful care you provided for my dad! read more

The couple of times I've been here to the urgent care with my kids, I've never had a good experience. Unfortunately, today is Sunday and CHOP's urgent care is closed. I came here with my son who for the past 2 days has been complaining of pain in his chest. The male physician we had was so dismissive and ignorant. When my 6 year old was explaining how he has been feeling, the doctor looked at him like he was crazy, as if we were wasting his time. "Your STORY doesn't add up to pneumonia". Like seriously? I'm making sure my son is okay! Worst bedside manner ever. We will never be back. read more

Went there for an EMG which is a test for nerve damage typically as a result of sciatica or other disc injury. The test is often quite painful but the doctor kept talking to me. This helped me keep my mind off of the pain. She also gave me some brief feedback and suggested specific further steps. read more

My daughter went to the emergency room on Monday, 1/20/2025. The morning staff were great! My daughter was severely dehydrated. They immediately took her back and put her on fluids, medicine and ran tests, one being a cat scan. While my daughter waited, there was a shift change. The difference in staff was like night and day. The second shift staff have absolutely no compassion, they sat behind the desk and did nothing. My daughter had asked them if they had the results from the cat scan and they rudely said she just had to wait, which she understood. She then rang her bell because she needed to go to the bathroom and needed to be unhooked from the iv's the nurse never came in, just sat at her desk and loudly said that my daughter was getting on here nerves and just had to wait for the results. So, my daughter had to yell from her room that she needed to go to the bathroom badly (bowel movement) and then they got mad that she yelled. She said if she didn't get to the bathroom there'd be a mess in the room and that's why she yelled. The doctor even yelled at her. When my daughter tried to explain what happened to the doctor and asked for the nurses name, the doctor wouldn't give it to her. Meanwhile, while my daughter is still waiting, she can hear the nurses loudly complain about other patients. I am completely outraged! Don't go into the health care field if you don't want to help people. My daughter is a med tech and care giver at a nursing home and would never treat her residents like this. I wish I knew the names of the 1st shift staff so I could thank them for being kind, compassionate and extremely helpful. However, we will never go back to Holy Redeemer Hospital again! read more

I recently went to the Holy Redeemer ER on a Thursday night with severe pain on one side of my head, and facial numbness. They ended up admitting me, and I was in the hospital for four days. On the positive side: - The ER seemed fairly well-run. I didn't have to wait terribly long to be seen, and the nurse was kind. - I liked the doc who made rounds over the weekend--Dr. Zorko. She was clear, thorough, and thoughtful. On the other hand, there were a number of areas where I found the hospital lacking. The chief two were: - Lack of caring and compassion, especially among the nurses. Example: As I lay in bed crying from a horrendous migraine, my head wrapped in a towel to block light, and reported my pain as a 10, the nurse simply recorded the number and left. Similar scenes took place throughout my stay--no apparent interest in or caring about my experience. - Lack of communication with me as a patient. Example: I submitted a urine sample, and multiple blood samples were taken. But it wasn't till days later, when I asked a doc about them, that I learned of the results. In sum, I do not want to return to Holy Redeemer. read more

May 27 2022. I asked if they could keep my mom at the hospital because she had come in with fluid on the lung and she was a hospice patient that had been in a nursing home. That night she started to actively die . The night nurse was great with giving the Morphine and Ativan through the night. I kept asking them to keep her due to her condition. Later that night I went home with my phone number on the board with instructions to call if she took a sudden turn for the worst. That morning they heartlessly put my mom on a stretcher in an ambulance in acute respiratory distress. Her lungs were filling up again and they were not going to keep her and just make her feel comfortable untIl she passed.My mom endured an ambulance ride in acute distress, dyeing I quickly got to the nursing home only to find that the " hospice " group that I had set up for her for this very moment, HAD NOT come out yet to " reopen " the case. I found my mom alone upright in bed. Her eyes wide as can be gasping for air . She had no breath sounds. She was all filled up. I panicked and screamed. My mom knew I was in distress. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I started to look for the floor med nurse to see if she had gotten any medication. He came in and gave her Ativan. I knew she was scared and just holding on. I said " mom let go" Alan and I will be ok" " It's ok mom just let go". she took two labored breaths and then just stopped. The nurse who put my mom on that stretcher at HR hospital must be one of the most cold hearted people in that hospital. I hope Karma takes its toll. I know for a fact that mom could have stayed there. All she needed to do was advocate for my mom. Call the nursing supervisor. I know they had beds . There were many. Plus she was in a tele unit....Why? I am a nurse and this would never have happened if she were my patient. My biggest regret was I left her that night. I was so tired and I knew that I had time to sleep and come back. I will never forgive . My grief is overwhelming. read more

This hospital is by far the worst hospital ever I came in here for abdomen pain they asked me how much pain I was in out of 10 I said 7. Then proceeded to wait in the waiting room for the next four hours with no updates what so ever! I witness the nursing staff be rude to patience who complained about their pain and agony. The nurses response was for hun to wait he will get seen when he gets called. The ER lacked empathy patients and work ethic. If I could give it zero stars I would. read more

My husband had to stand the whole time. He told my husband that he should get used to the pain because he was over 50. Didn't order any tests. The when I tried to be an advocate for my husband he snapped at me and the mocked me when I got upset. Donot recommend. read more

You can make any request you want in terms of what shot you want your baby to have or not have and they will just do what they want anyways and then claim ignorance the day after. Regardless of what your beliefs are, you don't have the final say over your baby, they do. read more

I spoke with this lady named Karen to make an appt for the first time. She had a particularly rude tone from the start, and even insulted me at one point. Very disappointed. The way she spoke sounded like she was trying to rush me, and I had to mute myself multiple times to find the information she needed. I tried to be as polite as I could, but she kept talking to me in a condescending way. At one point I repeatedly told her that the insurance card I was given was the only one I had. It should've worked in this situation. I was then told by Karen (when she was telling me what I needed to bring) to "make sure you bring your INSURANCE card, not your PRESCRIPTION card". I was trying to cooperate, yet she replied to me as such. She called me back again to verify some more information, and then abruptly hung up once I confirmed the information with her. I was in the middle of asking her if she needed more info, and then POOF. The call ended. Highly unprofessional. I'll see how the appt itself turns out, but this inital call has really lowered my expectations. The only positive from this is that my call was picked up asap. read more

They literally almost killed my dad in 2012 from blood clots, I worked for them for 9 years, it was not the best experience, two other family members were in the nursing home and never treated well, if anything the only thing I learned from my experience there was leaving and telling everyone the truth about it- I would not recommend to anyone go there or work there / it's a complete trap read more

Since I moved my family back to Philadelphia in the 90's we have been using Holy Redeemer Hospital, except for a short period just after we returned when we tried Jeans Hospital which was closer. My primary care physician here was on the staff of HRH. Our experience there has always been very good. I grew up in Philadelphia and then moved to a farm in upper Bucks County when I was in high school. After college I followed jobs and family to Hawaii and upstate New York and Texas, using the local hospitals. In traveling we've had good relations with many Roman Catholics that meshed with our Episcopal and Anglican church experiences, being in effect "English catholic". I recommend Holy Redeemer Hospital highly. They are caring, alert and attentive, even under very trying conditions. read more

I took my husband to ER for an altered mental status. The attending physician talked him into signing himself in. he did it reluctantly but I thought he needed phsychiatric help so I allowed it. After being admitted to Senior Behavior Health he was not seen by a phsychiatrist until the next night. He ended up getting psychotic drugs and days of this caused him to be in a very non functioning state and almost dehydrated (they don't give psych patients iv fluids) I started the 3 day process of moving him out. we drove him to Penn Presbyterian in Phila ER. Immediately they gave him an iv. He was taken off the drugs and was released after 9 days. He went to rehab for 3 days and now is home fully functional and neurology doctor said he's mentally fine and can even start driving. I am considering a law suit against them. read more

Do Not go to this Hospital!!! Took my mother there last night and they discharged her even though I told them that her breathing was not normal. I asked her nurse to listen to her lungs but the nurse said she didn't have a stethoscope so she got the ER doc who acknowledged that her lungs sounded wet but discharged her anyway. I wound up having to call 911 when she got home as her breathing was labored and her Oxygen level was 83%. She almost died because of their ineptitude. So over the years we have been to this hospital on numerous occasions. My biggest complaint would be the parking! It's dreadful! The lot is so far from the emergency room and the units in the hospital. Some times it's free, sometimes it's not. Other than that this review is based on the maternity unit. Most of the people on this unit are simply amazing. They make you feel welcome and are so nice and pleasant. Now again I say most. The staff at the front desk are the opposite. They don't smile and or talk. It's just business and people are miserable. The nurses though were all great! If your having a baby I would highly recommend. read more

Our visit here, unfortunately, was a visit to the ER. My wife had gotten an allergic reaction, couldn't stop coughing, and her throat was swollen to the point she couldn't breathe. Holy Redeemer was the closest ER to us so we made the trip at 2am. As soon as we walked in we told the front desk that my wife was having an allergic reaction and couldn't breathe. She was standing right there gasping for breath. Rather than phoning an RN right away, the receptionist made us stand there while she gathered all of our info - name, numbers, insurance, etc. before she finally got on the radio and asked a nurse to come out. Inside the rooms, everyone was very nice and helpful. Lots of new tech hooked up to monitor patients and doctors were knowledgeable. There was a long wait, but it's the ER, so that's expected. It's not first come first served, but whoever's condition is worse gets seen first. So no complaints there. Just so disappointing on the check-in as I've had better treatment from an urgent care facility during a crisis. Last time this happened, urgent care (Patient First down on Street Road) took my wife in and got her triaged immediately while I took care of paperwork. The amount of time I had to wait (and the pain my wife was in) just waiting for someone to type her data into a computer was beyond me. read more

What a place. I called two weeks ago to try and get my daughter some counseling service for a mental health issue. They told me they needed two weeks to work out their schedule. So on the 17th day I called to find out the status of their schedule. The main operator transfer me to the pediatric physical therapy department, after all I did say "therapy". Called back and this time I was transferred to scheduling because, I guess, I explained they needed to check THEIR schedule. Called back again explained my request yet again and was transfer to the bone marrow donation department with a message that the doctor would be out until December 13 (it's 02/06/2023!). Finally got transfer to the right department, of course no one is there to take my call because you know regular business hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 to whenever (I call on Monday at 10:00AM I guess that's not regular hours?). So according to their message they'll get back to me in 24 hours. Wow, I wish I could work so poorly and still get paid. Somewhere Kafka is laughing his butt off. read more

I wish I could give this 5 stars. I have had complete confidence in just about everyone who works there. There is one very huge exception that really makes me wonder how much they care for their in patients. After spending 3 nights and 2 surguries, only 2 out of the 5 floor RNs assigned to my case understood English. Their lack of understanding had direct impact on my feeling safe and cared for. One of them went so far as to get impatient when I wanted to wash my hand after using the bathroom.. It made me wonder if she understood the relationship of handwashing and infection. Ewwww. They served food that was clearly sitting out for an extended period of time and when I pointed it out it was clear that they did not understand. All the PCAs that I interacted with did not understand English as well. I am not a prejudice person. I will never ever judge the level of care based on where someone was born. However, to hire people who have direct contact with patients yet do not understand English is an act of negligence on the hospital administration's part. If I am ever in a position where they want to admit me again, I will point blank ask them if all the floor nurses understand English. If not, i will go elsewhere. Interestingly I noticed that all the nurses and workers in the ER and surgical area understand English. I really hope I do not come across as racist. Both my primary care doctor and my OB/GYN are immigrants and I have complete confidence in their abilities and would not think twice to recommend them. read more

This review is for the Senior Behavioral Health Unit. It is very clean, appropriately staffed, with good relationships among staff, and well-run. The psychiatrist and nurse practitioner are masterful at stabilizing geriatric patients. The only negative experience we had with this program was with the one social worker, who was really nasty and burned out and discharged my mother on a Friday afternoon with basically no info to a new facility resulting in a difficult transition. The nursing staff there are wonderful though and you can feel confident in the good care they provide your loved one while they are hospitalized there. read more
