I've found something in this church that is completely unique from any church I've attended. First…read moreof all, I'm new to the area. I've also attended the same church for nearly a decade (Bay Area). Subsequently, my initial feeling was a tug on my heart that said "I miss my family" even though I already knew it was time to spread my wings and find a new church home. Not just for myself, but for my daughter as well. She's 3 1/2, and is just now beginning to understand things so it's important as her mother to allow her to experience God in the way that I have. First of all, I noticed right away that people here are not focused on how you dress. They genuinely want you to join their family as long as your there, and to just "come as you are". I was greeted by so many friendly people, many of which were wearing 49ers jerseys because it was playoffs day. Evidently, the Pastor is a football fan because he was wearing one too! Nope! No suit and tie here. When I dropped off my daughter at the preschool classroom, it was more than obvious that she had enjoyed her time there. In fact, she didn't want to leave. One of the volunteers offered that I stay a few minutes to make sure she was settled in. I pondered it until she took off running with another kid her she laughing and playing. She was just fine. The process of signing her in and out and the badge number provided to me were every simple steps. I think some other aids has kids in the classroom as well. I felt confident and reassured leaving her in the preschool room. That's a huge step for a mom that isn't sure about such a new place herself. The music was positively phenomenal. We sang modern day songs you'd find on KLOVE, all to the beat of a band with extremely talented singers, guitarists, bassists, keyboard player, etc along with lighting and other "bells and whistles". It was truly an experience! Love it! The pastor didn't preach a sermon, rather a very powerful message. One that we cup if all understand. He spoke with such conviction and passion that we were on our feet clapping. His core message was simple: "you cannot see the harvest until you see the harvest". In other words: trusting in God through the hard times is recognizing the blessings He promises after the storm passes. As he spoke, he wandered up and down the isles, providing scripture and analogies, jokes that had us laughing, all with photos & scriptures posted on the monitors so we could follow along. The message felt quite personal, as should any true pastor that speaks the Word of God. I left truly impressed. Since that day, I've attended several more times. It was music to my ears that's boyfriend wanted to come, and his two girls also wanted to attend. Typically, Sunday school comes with a lesson, then perhaps a snack and play afterward. Keep in mind this is for ages 7-9 yrs. The day they attended was Super Bowl Sunday. All classes were combined and the kids competed in games and won prizes. They had a blast. I just hope they continue to, and that they continue to want to go. Before meeting me, they hadn't ever gone to church. My boyfriend (their dad) hadn't been in a lot longer. I was so happy to have someone beside me in church. Everyone went home happy, with one toddler crying because we were leaving, and two little girls asking if they could go next week. lol. I enjoyed the service just as much as they enjoyed their time. I'm incredibly blessed to find such a rare diamond in the city of Manteca. Although it's hard to start over, I can't help but feel right at home here.

This review is LONG time OVERDUE as I wrestled with God for several years of constant praying! (Gen…read more32, 1 Thessalonians 5:14) I rarely write reviews on Churches. But, for some reason I was compelled by the leading of the Holy Spirit in writing this one. I have attending this church on and off for about 4-5 years because at that time I was new to the area and was looking for (in prayer) a home Church. I left because I had Surgery and was unable to do anything for several months including driving so I swallowed my pride, took the advise of other godly people (Proverbs 11:14) with deep love & compassion reached out to Journey Church of which I have been attending at that time for help (Pastor Scott and then by Pastors direction Lisa) for Any help they could graciously offer would have been appreciated. (I live about 5 minutes from the church) When I first attended Lisa had no problem coming to my home and placing a Journey sign without asking permission in front of my home, which HOA later made me take down. But, when I was in need (Because of surgery) for any help perhaps taking me to church since I could not drive, cooking a meal or any other need they were willing to provide (I was not picky or demanding in ANYWAY) There are several Bible verses that says we should Help each other especially in time of need with love (The Book of James 2:14-17; 1 John 3:17; Deuteronomy 15:7-11; Galatians 5:13; Micah 6:8; Zechariah 7:9 and the list goes on) But, instead of help in ANYWAY Pastor Scott sent me a message telling me to stop bothering it's members! First off, I wasn't bothering anybody and just following the churches direction and second where is the love and compassion? I was suffering in pain from a surgery I just had and needed a little help. Its not like I live far or asking for money or anything like that I just needed a little help, compassion, love, prayers, or anything they could do was all appreciated but, when I read his message my heart just sank and others I showed (I just wanted clarification If I was reading his message correctly) The Bible says seek the advise of others (Proverbs 11:14; 27:17; 12:15) Their eyes practically came out of their head. Needless to say I left. In reading Ephesians 4:32 believing everyone deserves a second or more + chances to explain what they meant by their text, forgiveness, not to be offended, shake hands ETC.. I made appointment with Pastor Scott to talk about what happened when I had surgery and about that text message I received from him as I read too him the message for clarification. I had a lets move on mentality so I can perhaps be a part of their church family and see where I can fit in because my kids enjoyed going there and it was incredibly close to my home so I felt I could really help and be a part of the church family But, Instead when I made the appointment to talk with Pastor Scott in his office I was meet with an attitude of "I was bothering him" , "We don't help people" and "What do you/I want"? there were no miss-understanding, He meant what he said in his text message, I was unable to ask it's church members for anything and the look on his face was one of the "What do you need"? You're not a member of our church and we only help members! WOW! Needless to say I won't be back and for those considering Journey, remember this, that everything is fine as long as you don't ask the church for any help or needs (Big or small) and you never see the True heart of the church, pastors or it's leaders until that need arises. You'll always hear Christ and the finished work on the Cross emphasized. Worship Leader Eric does a great job too, you can see his sincere heart for God. Bigger churches will always have at least a bit of a "production" feel but when you get to know people here you'll find them to be sincere and down to earth. I appreciate that the Southern Baptist Convention does not sway with the culture, one of the few denominations out there that doesn't it seems. Good to know there are some churches left that still aren't afraid to call sin for what it is and that Christ is the only answer to a fallen world that is only drifting further and further away.

There are Lifegroups or small groups to be involved with that are available on any night of the week to fit your schedule. This community of people has been such a support to us in so many ways. Our lifegroup has stood with us through loss of family members, sickness and cancer, joys and sorrows. Truly like family. There are people of all kinds and it is a very inclusive, accepting church. Celebrate Recovery is available on Friday nights and includes a free dinner. This is for anyone struggling with hurts, habits or hang-ups that wants to have a safe place to come. Child care and children's events and programs are amazing. Sunday night and Wednesday night Youth programs. Wednesday night Care groups for those that are walking through grief, divorce, want support for parenting, growth in their marriages, Financial Peace University and more. They have childcare on both Wednesday nights and Friday nights also. Church services stream online live or after service times on YouTube or Vimeo. There is a homeless shelter ministry with art therapy, work in the community to paint bus benches in the town, disaster relief teams that go to help in areas of need and so much more.
