This is the caregiver Home Instead sent you my grandparents home.

As a caregiver for my grandparents and someone who feels strongly about protecting our elders I think I would be doing a disservice to my community by not making people aware of a senior home care agency in Statesville NC called Home Instead Senior Care. What started out as a decent relationship with this agency turned into a nightmare and a parade of strangers coming to my grandparents home, some of which I later found out did horrible things. Within the last few weeks I caught multiple "caregivers" from Home Instead doing things like looking through my grandmother's jewelry and taking pictures of the inside of grandparents' home, lying down in my grandparents' bed and texting instead of doing the job they were hired to do (at a rate of $120 for four hours of "care") and most recently sleeping in a chair beside my grandmother, neglecting her while she cried for help. That sleepy "caregiver" also put a hot wash cloth on my grandmother and when she screamed the "caregiver" said "oh it's not that hot". She also rammed my grandmother's hospital bed into a chest of drawers to stabilize it while she was in it. It was questionable if the "caregiver" was inebriated. All of these incidents were recorded on Ring cameras I installed in my grandparents home which Home Instead was made aware of. When I brought the incidents to Home Instead they promised that they would address the issues, make random visits to check on their caregivers and keep in touch with me but none of that happened. Yesterday morning when I took my latest concern to Home Instead about the sleepy "caregiver" that fell asleep at 5:47pm on her shift last Thursday, I was met with a defensive attitude, rudely interrupted by one of the four lead members of their agency and no one ever said, "I'm sorry". At one point when I showed them the footage of the sleepy "caregiver" ramming my grandmother's hospital bed into a chest of drawers in an attempt to stabilize it to change her, the leader of the Home Instead team said to another team leader, "Is that standard procedure?" I'm not in this industry and I know that hospital beds have wheel locks and that ramming an 85 year old woman into a chest of drawers is immoral. Having a loved one in a comprising position such as being bed ridden with dementia and all that comes with that is hard enough without dealing with an agency that lacks basic compassionate and integrity like Home Instead. One Home Instead team leader proclaimed to me, "If I can't get my house in order enough to suit you, we'll find you another agency". I understand that no one can control the way an employee acts but they can take measures to attempt to make a situation right and fix what is wrong with their agency which Home Instead ignored. By the time I left the Home Instead office, they were mad at me if that makes any sense. If your family member needs a caregiver at home, please don't make the mistake I did and avoid this agency at all costs. The picture I attached in my review was taken from my Ring cameras of Home Instead's "caregiver" passed out beside my grandmother. My grandfather had to wake her up because she slept past the end of her shift. I fired Home Instead. Today I was contacted by a Vice President of Home Instead Senior Care who let me know that word got back to her about my post about the agency on Facebook. She then told me that Home Instead was giving me 48 hrs notice that they would not be providing home care for my grandmother anymore as if I didn't fire them yesterday...pride is something else. I don't know how Home Instead thought that I would continue pay them to send their "caregivers" to my grandparents house to sleep, snoop and lounge for a $120 per four hour block of "care". I do find it interesting this Vice President called me three hours after this post when she failed to follow up with me or respond to my email regarding the incident that happened last Thursday. If I didn't go down to Home Instead's office yesterday at 9am I doubt I would have ever heard from her. I let this Vice President know that I am actively reporting Home Instead Senior Care to the proper outlets.

Feel free to fact check this. Sava senior care was sued by Medicare for Fraud in 2015. This…read morefacilities administrator was part of that fraudulent business practice and is still administrator. So why would she still be there? I was witness to her demanding patients be picked up on therapy, for profit only. Witness to her putting all patients into highest billing category for profit only. I was also witness to a nurse practitioner telling her it was not medically safe for patient to receive therapy and her response was " I don't care" and she demanded he receive maximal minutes of therapy. When reported to my supervisor, the company did nothing. She is abusive and fraudulent. Do not support a fraudulent company or abusive administration.

Caring and compassionate staff, but not enough of them. The nurses and CNA's that my grandmother…read morehad were very good, but, again, there was not enough of them to handle the large number of patients in the facility. On Thanksgiving day, while visiting my grandmother, I had to round up staff, myself, to help another lady off of the floor who had fallen out of her wheelchair in one of the day rooms. I have no idea how long she had been on the floor, maybe 2 minutes, maybe 2 hours. The staff were eager to help, but they were being pulled in so many different directions at the same time, you could tell that it was difficult for them to keep track of everyone. They all seem to be sprinting from room to room to attend to their large patient loads Very sad on the part of management, in my opinion. My grandmother had a faulty bed alarm that incessantly sounded if she so much as moved her arm, not to mention her bed was very outdated. TV's in patient rooms are small and probably over 15 years old. The facility has a constant smell of stale urine (not just occasionally like in other nursing homes I have visited, but all of the time). I get that this is a state-funded facility and NC has no intentions of helping anyone who isn't super-wealthy, but, come on, don't our seniors deserve better? Again, the small number of staff members that Maple Leaf does have are great. My grandmother spent over 6 months there a couple of years ago, and was there for about a month before she passed away. She was on a first name basis with many of the CNA's and you could tell that they genuinely cared for her. If they would just hire more good people like the ones they already have, along with making some updates to the furnishings, the place would be fine. I just cannot in good conscience recommend this place if anyone has any amount of choice in the matter. Unfortunately, my family was financially unable to afford the astronomical prices of the other nursing homes in Statesville. Hopefully, however, more good staff will come in very soon and reinvent Maple Leaf.
