Novelty tins in shape of currency, oodles of stationary, leather belts, cheap candy, garden hoses, office chairs, perfume, speakers, DVD cabinets, small motorized helicopters, solar garden lights, clothing of all kinds, shortbreads, santa suits, blackboards, pottery wheels, diaries, beach tents, boogie boards, miniature drum kits AND a family pool. As a Yelp CM planning events for y'all, a dollar shop is a gal's best friend and with a shopping list with 'Feather Boas' at the top, Direct Savings in Stones Corner came up trumps. I grabbed one in every colour of the rainbow. They've extended their premises since I was last here but that's just more room for wonderment. Most things are $10 and under and from kitchen gadgets, stationery, party costumes and party decor you're every cheap-ass need is covered here. Heck, I even picked up a $5 iPhone case that screams - I just don't give a damn what my iPhone case says about me anymore. Walk in for a gander and come out loaded with cheep and cheerful treasures!

Their bird cages are equal if not better quality than the petstore or kmart ones, they aren't as expensive and they are way way way bigger in size. If you're after that sort of thing. They also have some really nice dog carry crates, both hard and soft. I've never seen them there before. And on the internet the exact same soft crate was in the $70 range where the one here was in the $40 range. Shop here and you'll save some big money on big ticket items, I think they're expanding their product range (if they can) into the bigger ticket items so not everything costs $2 anymore. It's nice to see a well-organised bargain shop as well, when I walk in, I know I'll be treated with a smile and know exactly where to find what i'm looking for.

For these reasons I often find that even if I'm not looking to buy anything I can't stay away from these shops. I was near Garden City in Mt Gravatt when I wondered across the road to the Overflow which had a whole bunch of storage containers outside for fewer than 20 dollars. I had to go and check it out so I walked in and was amazed at the sheer size of the place. It looked more like a ware house than a shop. This sadly was great news for me and I must have spent the next 30 min looking at everything from picture frames to tools to kitchen ware. This however hardly made a dent. I am definitely heading back there because its perfect for party supplies, storage solutions and more importantly silly gifts. I would recommend that people who love a deal go and check it out.

There's food, drinks, movies, food, drinks, clothes, mobile phones, banks, etc, etc, etc. The current construction is a bit annoying, but it's hard to knock improvements being made. The result is a bit of a bottleneck with the huge crowds walking around on weekends. This is a problem when you walk faster than basically any other human in existence and are incredibly impatient. So, it's probably more of a problem just for people like me, which thankfully, I don't believe can be found in abundance. I like that there is often music and the people watching is tremendous.

There are also plenty of cafés, restaurants, and quick food options nearby, making it easy to grab a bite or take a break between shopping. One of the highlights for me was the street performers. During my visit there were musicians and entertainers performing throughout the mall, which gave the area a fun, lively atmosphere. It can get very crowded, especially during weekends and peak shopping hours. It's definitely worth visiting whether you're looking to shop, eat, get your steps in, or simply soak up the atmosphere.
