I would advise anyone who has the dream of owning a home to stay far away from this lender. I was a first time home buyer and new to the whole process of buying a home. When i first called the office, Mr. Pressley was not in the office and called me back within about 30 minutes. That was typical in my opinion. No big problem there. While he was 'driving around town' in his car, he took my information to apply for pre-approval for a USDA home loan since it sounded like my best option. He called me back in about an hour with a pre-approval number of $106,000 for a new home. I was then to come in the next day to fill out the official application. In general, the day i filled out the application was fairly normal. He crunched numbers, explained what the loan covered, how much the appraisal would be, etc. He was ok about answering what questions i had and gave me the office number and his direct cell phone line in case i thought of any other questions after i left. Fast forward a few weeks. The first house i thought i wanted fell through. No fault of homestar. The inspection failed on that one. However, every single time i called Mr. Pressley he did not answer his cell. He would call me back about 15 minutes later. I would ask my question but before i was done he would cut me off, talk around in a circle, then proceed to tell me that he was not in the office and to call his secretary because 'she is in the office and knows more than i do about the answer to your question', and then would basically hang up on me leaving me quite confused even more so than i was before i called. Eventually it got to the point that i never called Mr. Pressley anymore. I just called the secretary. Even she never gave me straight answers. She would talk around the question i would ask and i was always confused about the whole process. Its as if they would lose my file every time i called. I had to explain my work history and work situation about four different times. So finally the first house contract was cancelled because of bad inspection. I finally found another home that turned out to be everything i was looking for. I called the secretary at 8 am the same day i was going to make an offer on the home to make sure i was still good for the $106,000 that i was told before. She told me she would crunch the numbers and call me right back. I was supposed to meet my agent at 1pm to make an offer so by the time 12:30pm came around and the Homestar secretary still had not called me, i called her back. When she answered the phone her tone was as if i was bothering her and she then proceeded to tell me that the loan amount was dropped to $100,000 but could not give me an answer why. My credit stayed the same for the last couple months and i hadnt bought or financed anything large and also had not missed any payments on anything. This made me pretty upset because the offer i had to make on the house couldnt be lower than 106,000 and that was pushing it close. I went to the office to get my files back from them and of course Mr. Pressley was not in the office. The only time he was there was the first time that i visited to fill out the application. I told the secretary i was going with a different lender who would help me like homestar should have been doing from the start. About five minutes after i left with my file, Mr. Pressley called and left a voicemail stating that he believed he could get me back to where i could actually get the $106,000 and that he would call me within a day. This happened december 10th, 2014 and it is now january 28th, 2015 and Mr. Pressley still has NOT called me back with those numbers. I did end up going with a different lender who did put me in my dream home. If i would have stayed with homestar, i would have lost the house. They did not work with me as they should have to get me in a home. I dont believe they value their customers and i advise anyone who is looking to obtain financing to stay clear from this establishment. read more
