Grandpa brought me here for breakfast while I was helping him with some heavy work. He took me out to a place in town I almost never go to. The only time I ever come out here is to visit my mom, and this place is past a turbo take to get there. It was packed inside when we came in, so this is clearly a popular place! The interior was relatively old fashioned with shelves full of Very old cartons of products and lots of pictures of old art as well. Simple colored walls as well. All of the tables had red and cream diamond pattern table cloths on them which helped add to the old style fashion. The chairs were all pretty standard and good to sit at. I decided to order the New York Steak and Eggs. The eggs were good. Well prepared and tasty too. The hash browns were also pretty good, with nice flavor to them to enjoy! The steak was very tasty. Well cooked, seasoned well, and a very good size too! Overall I was quite pleased with the food here! It was tasty and enjoyable all around! No complaints on my end! If you want old fashion comfort breakfast with the fam, this is your spot! I have picky eaters for children and they basically licked their plates. My husband and I gave each other the look "oh yeah, this is the spot". Portions were American big. Price was generously right. Delicious. I love this little unassuming, family owned spot. My husband and I come here quite often, and I love bringing people who don't even know about it. They always love the vibe, the food and the kind servers. I come here because the prices are fantastic, and the food is always good. They are known for their very large portions. We hadn't been here for awhile so off we went. My wife had the chicken bbq sandwich and I ordered the senior pork chop. Her sandwich was really good and the fries nice and hot. But I was especially impressed by my lunch. The only nit picking I can comment on is the pork chop was a bit overdone, which is easy to do since it's thin cut. It tasted really good, the mashed potatoes had big chinks of potatoes in it, which I liked. The veggies were cooked perfectly, with some crunch still present. And, it came with a cup of soup, which was meatball and also very good. All for less than 10 bucks! Amazing. The coffee was good as was the service. We'll be back much sooner than later. read more

We've been eating at Hometown for decades, I remember when it was Curt & Al's (the best!). But we won't be spending money there anymore. The last few times we ate there have been borderline, we learned not to get the chocolate chip pancakes because they're so unbelievably sweet, it's nauseating. I can't imagine feeding those to a child. But today we were done. I ordered a sausage mushroom omelet. It actually had slices of cheese on top (see picture). Anyone who knows how to cook well knows you don't use sliced cheese on top of food. You use slices for sandwiches. The inside was so overloaded with mozzarella that after a few minutes the omelet had cooled enough that it became a rubbery mess. Think cold mozzarella sticks. Yuck. The sausage was just cut up links. Not so bad, I guess, except these are rookie cooking mistakes. A chef worth their salt (and training) would never serve an omelet with sliced cheese and cut up links. I'm just sayin'. My home fries were paper thin. Who cuts potatoes that thin? You could excuse it if they were crispy. They weren't. They were half soggy and half burnt, as was my toast. Hubby got the California omelet and he wasn't happy with his either, same cheap sliced cheese. He got a side of fruit and the sliced bananas were black on one side, too ripe. As you're cutting up food to serve, a chef should keep an eye on what they're working with, and if the fruit is overripe, you don't serve it, you toss it, or save it for something like banana bread. You could argue that perhaps the overripe bananas weren't noticed but they were put into the container with the black side down, so it wasn't easily noticed. That tells me it was done on purpose. And it also tells me the cook doesn't actually care what they serve. The rest of the fruit bowl was gross, fruit was all overripe and inedible. It wound up in the trash. The place was busy when we picked up the order, which blows me away. People are happy with this junk? No thanks. From now on we'll stick with Pegs. Goodbye Hometown. We've loved you for a long time. But all good things must come to an end. read more

This is a great place to have a comfort food meal. The large portions of homemade goodness never end. There's an array of many choices and the plates that have past by my table look very inviting; I'm a Cheese Burger girl and I can vouch for Hometown's burgers as excellent and at a really good price. The service is fast and the Servers are always friendly and accommodating. Just wish they were opened later, maybe until 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm. What a quaint little 'mom and pop' shop. I've visited this café numerous times since 2014. Each time the food has always been delicious, the wait staff has been attentive and nice. Most recently, I went Friday April 29, with my boyfriend's mother, around 9 or 10 and was seated right away. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. And while it was delicious, the Hollandaise sauce was just doused over the egg, ham and English muffin. I could barely distinguish the different flavors from each component. The Hollandaise sauce was nice and rich though, and made well. I told myself when I came back, I would order the sauce on the side. Another Kudo to the kitchen staff, my boyfriend's mother ordered a California omelette with hash browns and she asked for them crispy and burnt. They came out a beautiful shade of crispy and I was impressed with the attentiveness to their listening to her request. Sunday May 1 I went back around 1030-11am, with my boyfriend after I ran the Biggest Little 5k, and the Sunday rush gave us an estimated wait time of 20 minutes, and we probably waited 10. Kudos again to the staff for over estimating the wait time. I again ordered the Eggs Benedict and asked for the Hollandaise sauce on the side. I was able to pour my own and make sure the ratios were better. That was 10/10 an amazing decision. If you like Eggs Benedict smothered in sauce, order as is off the menu. If you want a little more control over how much sauce is allocated, order the sauce on the side. Overall, I will continue to go back and eat there, weekdays or weekends. This place has been highly recommended to me and it was worth the drive to the Lemmon Valley area. Hometown Cafe is exactly what I imagine when I hear the word "diner." It's cozy, homey, a little dingy, and the staff is friendly. We started out with the chili cheese fries for the table which was a HUGE portion of fries. The ratio of chili, cheese, and fries was perfect, not a fry left uncovered. Also, the ranch that came with the fries was so good, definitely not the kind of ranch you have at home. After that, our food came out, each equally large in portion. We had the chicken and waffles special, breakfast burrito, and the Suzie's Scramble. The waffle was soft but not soggy, and the chicken, while just chicken tenders, was juicy and solid. The breakfast burrito was HUGE and made a great lunch the next day. It had a ton of cheese and every inch was filled. Suzie's scramble was a nice lighter breakfast option but still just as filling as the others. Unfortunately, with leftovers in tow we didn't get the chance to try any of the desserts that we had been planning on getting. Next time, I'll definitely have to save room for more! Everything was well worth the price. Compared to a lot of other breakfast places in the Reno area, Hometown is the most bang for your buck. More affordable AND higher qualify. Went to hometown cafe on a whim and were so glad! We were seated right away without wait (not to say it wasn't busy!). We got a nice booth for 4. Our waitress was super nice and straight to the point which was great since we were starving and needed to eat. I got the eggs Benedict. I don't eat ham and our waitress switched it out for tomato and avocado which was great! I got them with home fries and they were delicious My fiancé got the smothered breakfast burrito and it was really good, and way too much food! Seriously our favorite breakfast place in town! Everyone who works there is very friendly. The food is great! The portions are huge and the prices are very affordable. My wife had the chicken fried steak with homefries. She is very picky about how this dish is cooked by many restaurants, not a complaint from her. I had Joe's original omelet with homefries and a biscuit with gravy. The omelet was loaded, and I mean loaded with ground beef, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and cheese. The biscuit was fluffy and soft with creamy sausage gravy. The service here is oustanding and food comes out fast, even when the restaurant is crazy busy. It's definitely worth a drive out to Lemmon Valley for breakfast from anywhere in the Reno/Sparks area. Someday, we will have to try and make it here for lunch. read more
