I toured their office and heard about some of their projects on an American Institute of Architecture firm crawl. They adesigned their existing office building, a modernist cement structure along Mirror Lake, as well as a Mondrianesque cubist structure that is planned for the future. They've also done fire stations, park buildings, religious structures, and residential buildings. They had a pier plan as part of a team of firms.. It's a design-build firm meaning the have a general contractor partnership that handles the build and gives feedback in the design phase which makes a lot of sense to me so clients wouldn't be caught dealing with and trying to coordinate between separate architectural and building firms trying to work through a project. The firm seems to like to include sustainable qualities in their projects such as designs that don't require regular painting. They definitely do some interesting designs and were involved with two design stages of pier design work. Jensen and the gentleman overseeing construction of the projects both inpressed me with their passion and knowledge. They seem like great people too. It will be interesting so see what other projects theu bring to our area and others to inspire. They also did interior work on the new James museum of Western Art in St. Pete. They also designed the Madeira Beach Municipal Complex which looks pretty inpressive. Worth a visit..

Nicola started out compassionate and caring until she got her final payment then she become difficult to work with. I got denied county approval with her first set of plans, finally a month or so later she got around to correcting it and gave new plans. Come to find out when I start the construction process not only did she not include the mechanical pages but she then wanted to charge me again to have them done, Not to mention every sub-contractor I had out to help me or give me a quote had nothing but negative things to say about her plans. Please save yourself a lot of money and a huge headache and use somebody else besides Nicola Johnson.

The space had been owned by accountants and was basically a box with a few offices and a conference room. Turning it into a medical office with a lab, exam rooms, administrative offices and a break room would be a challenge. But this in reality was a very small project and was obviously not going to generate a high fee. Brian never treated us as if we were a small project. We were very impressed with Brian's attention to detail, professionalism and warm, friendly personality. He took time to tour our old office and question us on our daily routines so that we could improve upon the design of our old space. He emphasized the impact of thinking through the motions of a typical day so that we could work as comfortably and efficiently as possible. Every detail was considered, down to the way each exam room door opened. He reversed the doors so that when the Dr. walked in, the patient would not be seen by anyone in the hallway. He made sure that we had enough space for charts and then a lot more to allow for growth of the practice. He handled the contractors like a seasoned diplomat and kept in close contact with us throughout the awful permitting process (which delayed our opening by 6 months). After the work was finished and we opened, he checked on us several times to make sure everything was o.k. He stopped by a few years later to see how we were. It has been about ten years since we finished our project. We still get compliments on how nice our office is and how well laid out and inviting it is. We have called him a few times over the years with questions and he always has time for us. He provides exceptional service. Our project was a small job but he treated us as if it were a million dollar project. His integrity, breadth of knowledge, talent and competence make him an easy choice for anyone in need of a talented architect.

Total scam business…read more Contracted with him to design a kitchen to include design plans, structural design work to remove a bearing wall, and design front and rear porch with steps. From the get go, plan dimensions were wrong and never verified in the field, cabinet sizes were not standard and to the height we selected. We even told him the sizes we wanted. Being a retired carpenter by trade, I knew what I was talking about. The owner said he was a registered architect in Kentucky when he was not, nor registered in Florida. He has no structural engineer that works for him either. Architectural and engineering plans, along with a building permit that was to take eight weeks total was still in a schematic phase after seven weeks. He blamed me for a difficult design and that was why the time took so long. Problem was he didn't know how to design cabinets. For example, he called for a standard sink base cabinet which is 36" to be 37". Other base cabinets in plan were not standard sizes and had multiple filler strips attached. Poor design. What took him seven weeks to attempt to design was done by a local cabinet store in five hours. When I complained and wanted money back I was told my $4500 dollars was non refundable as per my contract. Now I have to take him to court to try to get my money back. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This was nothing but a scam business with no experience. I tried to resolve this amicably with him but all I was told is money is non-refundable. I got a tour of the office and to meet the partners during a recent American Institute of Architecture firm crawl. Garcia introduced the firm's history and organization. He then walked us through the design process for one of their projects. I was very impressed with his mastery of the design and all the considerations involved as well as his ability to explain the design and its features in a clear and easily understandable way. He teaches USF architecture students as a side project and I imagine he's a popular professor. We also got to meet Sol Fleischman. Kind of a legend. It's great to see an important firm with great tradition that is continuing to innovate. They showed us how they use laser printers to create 3-D models of their designs. Pretty nifty. Their buildings are around Tampa and in other areas. I loved the way they considered the way the site and natural features related to the building they designed for a medical office and integrated the wetlands and views. They also consider organizational and functional issues such as the way people move through a building and how best to make people comfortable using it so it works best. Based on my experience I would definitely recommend them. It was super fun to meet the architects and learn about the firm and some of its many projects. New as well as renovations.

They do not provide answers to questions and don't seem to be in a particular hurry to fulfill the contract. Their website says: "When you order as a sign with us we can assist with your design, permit acquisition, manufacturing, and installation, our consultants are dedicated to ensuring each stage of the project runs smoothly. We will work with our trusted partners and contractors to help keep your project on task by providing oversight and leadership in executing projects from planning to completion. A consultant will guide customers through the process - providing timely information and communication to ensure you stay up-to-date on all projects." Customer response: not even close. we get zero communication from this company and when they do respond they don't provide the information requested. Completely ignore you. The status is always "being manufactured" but they'll never give you an accurate status, manufacturer or accurate date. Their website says: ".....From sign sizing to illumination guidelines and positioning, each location has its own set of rules and regulations for signage. Determining the regulations is an imperative step in the process; one that can be quite difficult. That's why our experienced consulting team at Libra Signs will work closely with permit specialists during the permit acquisition process. We do our best to expedite the process and get your permit approved so we can move on to the next step in manufacturing your sign..." Customer response: Their permit "specialists" don't do anything. Their specialist asked us to provide the information needed for the permit, that he could get by going to the county office or online records. That's what we paid them for - go online and find it! They expedite nothing! Two weeks later with no communication from them, one of our BOD members went online to find the survey plat from the county website and emailed it to Libra. Their response was, "Thanks we will forward this to permitting and will come back with an update as soon as possible". So, what are we paying them for? Evaluating additional action.
