Imagine going in for a check engine light and they tell you we need to change the intake manifold and this may or may not fix your car for 1200$ it did not fix it! Now imagine they tell you to put in a new turbo for 2800 more for a total of 4,000$. Put in new turbo ourselves for 600 because we thought the 1800 part they quoted was way overcharging, anyway didn't fix the problem, took it back to them and now they say to change plugs and coil packs, we did and still didn't solve the problem! Took it to another shop who laughed out loud when we told them where we brought it and they thought 1 of 2 things and we changed the 1 item which didn't fix it so we came back to dishonest one to have warranty on the valve cover which they replaced one year ago. Called them and they said oh yes bring it in and we'll cover it under warranty, called them on Monday and apparently they didn't fix that part after all but just the gasket and went ahead and replaced the valve cover anyway. If it fixes the problem great what's another 350 to my son who just graduated college and is broke ? I said fine as long as you test drive it and it works! They called and said it's all good , son and daughter went and got the car and the check engine light was still on so my daughter called back to find out if they cleared the code and Chris the owner hung up on her. My son cleared the code and took it for a drive and sure enough the check engine light came back on and it runs the same as it did from the first time we brought it in. Imagine paying 183 an hour for someone to guess what's wrong with your car and just throw parts at it!!! This business is a disservice to all the real mechanics out there , I would never recommend someone that can fix a simple check engine light and won't back up their work. If you think this is a fair shop it's just because you haven't looked elsewhere. The General Managed didn't want my sons car back in the shop because he gave them a bad review. Just a PSA for future customers, please consider getting a second opinion from other mechanic shops before letting Honest-1 touch your car! I've now had two experiences in which I've been over charged and quoted to replace parts that aren't necessary to fixing the car. Shop rate to work on a 2016 Chevy Cruze with 103,000 miles was 183$/hr and the mechanics seem to overcharge for parts. The mechanics here will also leave you feeling broke and powerless since they do not work with you to explain the problems or give you different options. They will say, "You need X done to your car and it will cost you Y". If you have no idea about engines this place will do its best to take advantage of unaware customers and make you replace things that are not necessary to the issue at hand. My first experience involved replacing a valve cover on a 2016 Chevy Cruze for a failed PCV valve which is a common issue. I attempted to do it myself but in the process stripped a thread which led to the valve cover not sealing properly and a big oil leak. Had the car towed to Honest-1 where they quoted me 600$ for re-tapping the stripped thread, and completely replacing the new after-market valve cover I just bought, claiming they would not install the after-market part since "they don't often seal properly". So essentially they tossed my valve cover and replaced it with a brand new OEM part that cost way more. The next day out of nowhere I get a call about how my timing chain was stretched and needed to be replaced, quoting me 1800$ for the timing chain which I flat out rejected. My logic was rather than pay up front for a part that I doubt is actually faulty, I'll just let the engine blow up if it truly is bad, and just swap the entire engine since its about the same price they quoted me to replace the timing chain. Fast forward two years and my engine has never knocked and the timing chain is WORKING GREAT. Saved 1800$ that day. My second experience came recently as the same Chevy Cruze was experiencing fuel system issues in which the code was saying the engine was running lean. I replaced the ignition coil pack and a downstream O2 sensor which did not seem to fix the issue so I brought the car back to Honest-1 Auto Car in Cottage Grove. A mechanic contacted me saying they found a check valve missing from the intake manifold and that a new intake manifold needs to be installed before they even move forward with troubleshooting the problem, even claiming they don't know if this will fix the issue. As my hands were tied, I said go ahead and replace it for the 1200$ they quoted me. The next day I get a call from the mechanic saying replacing the intake manifold resulted in the code switching from running lean to rich and that they "found chunks of the impeller blades missing in the turbo, and that the entire turbo needs to be replaced" and they quoted me 2800$ to replace the turbo, oil and coolant lines. Hearing that price I just said go ahead and close it up and I'll replace it myself. Went and got the car back from Honest-1 and bought a new turbo to replace the old defective one for 600$. Upon removing the old turbo we inspected it for damage using a snake camera to look at both sides of the impeller blades and found the fan to be slightly degraded, but no chunks missing from the blades like the mechanic had stated. We did however find a slight crack developing with the waste gate and decided to replace the turbo anyway as they typically go out at around 100K miles. With the new turbo installed the car was running very roughly and threw another engine code shortly after a small test drive. Without a code reader we decided to let Honest-1 have another look at the car to troubleshoot the issue, thinking they would help us out since the car has not been fixed yet after spending 2,000$ in parts and labor. The new code indicated the engine was misfiring and now their solution is to replace the brand new coil pack and get four new spark plugs which "should fix the issue". I was quoted 575$ to replace the plugs and coil pack, a job that takes 15 minutes max with the right tools. So I now have a car that is still not in working condition, I've replaced two main components of my engine that were probably not the root of the issue, and I'm 2000$ short, still trying to get my car back on the road. read more

I said OK and I have a $15 coupon, the response was no it's $60 and then you can apply the coupon. Talk about a bait and switch. RUN do not walk away from this place. This place is down right fraudulent I would avoid this place at all costs. There are enough mechanics out there to not give these scam artists a dime. I found this place through the Costco Auto program discount and will never be going back for any amount of discount on their "service". I actually did not pay them anything for their "diagnostic". I can see why I didn't pay them anything too. They spit the line "they just want people to be safe on the road checking their brakes for no cost." No they just want to replace entire break systems (that aren't necessary) and tell you 1000 other things are wrong that aren't really wrong. They quoted me 9712.86 dollars for everything "wrong" with the car... I took a 2007 Toyota Camry in with 122,000 miles. It has been well maintained the whole life of the car. Toyota engines do not fall apart at 122,000 miles when they are well maintained (almost any modern car does not unless it was abused). I was hearing a brake "grinding noise" in the rear is why I originally took the car in. I knew something needed to be fixed on the rear brakes. They proceeded to tell me I needed new pads, rotors, calipers on the entire rear brake system even though just one side was making noise. They flat out lied and said the caliper was completely ceased up. I've had that happen to a previous car and that was definitely not the case I already knew. A family member who was hurt at the time who is a master mechanic said he doubted the shop checked the calipers. That is a more time consuming process to actually take the calipers off and check them properly. The shop then proceeded to tell us the head gaskets were leaking, needed a new timing chain, new tires, new brake fluid, alignment. The only part that had some bit of truth to that was the tires. I just took the car into Costco to get the tires rotated and they told me the tires are "getting down there" but doesn't need replacing immediately. They recommended replacing before the end of the year if the car is driven every day. Anyways I took the car to an HONEST (not like this place) independent mechanic and he didn't see any evidence of this. He replaced the rear brake pads and rotors. The pin around the pads/calipers (I can't remember the proper name) was slightly sticking and there was rust on the rotors is the only thing that was wrong with the car. Thank God for honest people my repair bill with parts was 260 dollars! NOT 9700.00! Avoid this place at all costs. You have all been warned. read more

I brought my Chevy Aveo on the 24th to have them figure out why my car wouldn't shift gears, thinking it was a transmission issue. After paying for their diagnostic service, they decided the best course of action was to replace my intake temperature sensor, my timing belt and water pump, my camshaft position sensor and flush my radiator. Spent $2391 for all these services. I took it home and for a day it was working fine, although my car sounded louder than usual. The next day all my warning lights came back on and my car started stalling while driving down the road. Now that I've given them my entire savings to fix my vehicle and the problem is still there, I looked on google for anyone having the same issue. Many people with the same issue said that replacing the coil pack fixed it. So I went to Autozone and purchased new wires, spark plugs and a new coil pack for $100 and put them all in, which is where I noticed that my air filter housing was cracked and unsealed and was most definitely NOT like that when I first brought it to them and explains why my engine was stalling and why my car was so loud revving up. Now it's being held shut with duct tape while I wait for a replacement. So that to me means I wasted money on their diagnostic service for them to not notice something so obvious ( I mean, they didn't identify the problem in the first place anyway) or their mechanic broke it and just didn't say anything. Took it back out for a test drive and it drives like a champ again with no warning lights coming back on (at least not yet.) So for $100 in parts, I could've fixed the problem myself instead of coughing up $2391 for services that didn't even fix my problem. To me it seems like they just went with the most expensive services they could come up with to "fix" my problem. To say I feel cheated and downright foolish is an understatement. Will not be utilizing Honest-1's services in the future and if you care about your money/car, I'd advise you to look elsewhere. read more

Came in for an oil change with a coupon. New owner and staff, so service has improved versus a year ago. Service was performed well, 21 point inspection was done, and summary sheet was given for services that are due soon or right away. Prices were a bit high as far as the recommended services that my car needed. I knew about the issues before they gave me the recommendations, so they are honest and not trying to up sell you. I would come back again if I had coupons. But as far as oil changes, they're the same price as the dealership. Other services are most likely lower than the dealership, but can be higher than other locations. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service and change of management/staff. read more

If I could, I'd give it zero stars. They are a bunch of incompetent crooks. My car wouldn't start, I towed it to them because it was under my AAA. They took 2 full days to "diagnose my problem." They said it was my timing chain and it would cost me $4,500 to fix. The next day they called and said that the timing chain wasn't the problem and it was probably my cylinders, but not 100% sure. They increased my bill to $6,900! I asked if they planned to mis-diagnose any other parts of my car. I told them to stop everything, do not touch my car any further because I would be going elsewhere. They tried to charge me over 12 hours of labor, almost $2,400! I was prepared for legal action and let them know my intentions. They backed off and only charged me $210 for "diagnosis fees." Pathetic. Do Not Go there. read more

They get 5 stars for honesty and customer service. I took my Dodge Ram pickup there in November 2015 to have the front end rebuilt. On July 1 2016, I was making a left turn and there was a loud clunk and the front tires started squealing. When I straightened out everything was fine. Then, the next left turn, same thing. I drove home slowly. July 5, I took my truck to Honest-1-Auto for an oil change and an evaluation of the front end problem. I got there at 7:00 when they opened. They took my truck in and in 15 minutes told me something had broken and they would repair it under warranty. They provided me with a loaner and said, we'll call you. They called at 10:00 and said it was ready. They did the repair at no cost and gave me a discount on the oil change. They have my business for as long as they keep the great customer service. read more

I went in for an oil change and a front headlight. I was told it was cost $180 plus tax... WHAT?! The tech told me that on my 2009 Chevy Traverse they have to remove the entire front bumper to change the headlight and that it would take an hour to complete the task. So i told him to skip it as I wasn't prepared to pay $150+ for a headlight. The next day I watched a YouTube video on how to change my headlight. I did it myself for $15 and it took me 20 minutes. I have NO experience with cars ( I am a stay-at-home mom!). I thought this was SO sketchy, so i called and asked them why I was told the entire front bumper had to come off, when in fact all I needed to do was remove 2 screws. The manager stumbled over his words and then told me that the technician was a new employee. Crappy excuse considering he (the manager) was present during the conversation I had with the tech. I brought my vehicle in for some warranty work and was accused of puncturing a hole in my radiator to get a free radiator. He also asked me if I had a front end collision. What does that have to do with fixing my defective radiator. He was extremely rude and totally unprofessional. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did NOT repair my radiator. What kind of business is this that they accuse their customers of tampering of their own vehicle. This was the actual owner of this store I spoke to. If I hadn't been so stunned by his accusations I probably would have punched his lights out. WTF. I will NEVER BRING MY VEHICLES HERE AND I WARN OTHER CUSTOMERS TO THINK TWICE. so 3000 miles ago i had a alignment and oil change done. i returned 3000 miles later for another oil change for them to tell me i need idler arm pitman arm inner tirod and alignment now how dose all them things go bad in 3000 miles. took to another shop and they had told me honest 1 was wrong. what i need is 2 lower ball joints and a inner tirod. ever since they sold to a new owner things aint the same any more. they wanted 1400$ to do the work that did not need to be done. the other shop did what needed to be done for 800$ wow i dont see them being in biz for much longer real honest yea right good luck. randy dahl 03 escalade read more
