Prices are reasonable (approx $12 a meal) and the service was lovely. Lots of delicious looking pastries and sweets and the coffee was good. For an out of the way spot in NB, there was a steady takeaway coffee crowd so we weren't the only ones that liked it. That they have high chairs is a massive win in our book and makes breakfast so much easier with a little guy. For winter, there are quite a few tables inside which is nice.

However a seat was found for us and although it was not next to the window overlooking the harbour, those were booked, it was totally understandable and our spot was still nice. They were presented nicely and seemed quite strong which I like; money's worth. We ordered a dessert which was delicious and plated very well. A week prior to the event I rang up to confirm my reservation next to the window. After a long long phone call and an employee raising their voice to the fact that someone had already reserved the table and trying to secure me a different spot, we came to the agreement someone had spelt my name wrong on the reservation sheet. Expecting this to be fixed, I showed up to The Deck early to my booking so I enjoyed a few cocktails at the bar. Me and my friend made our way to dinner only to be told the table was reserved by someone else. The worker did not speak perfect English and had some difficulty pronouncing my name thus thinking the one on the sheet was different. It took a long time to settle the problem, she left for a period of time and came back and eventually I was able to show her that it was my name spelt slightly wrong. We sat down half an hour late to dinner and I was pretty annoyed but I still got my seat so it was okay. We were first waited on by a young woman on what seemed to be her first shift so I didn't mind that she was a little slow to use her equipment and needed assistance. However the main waiter we had seemed slightly rude and bored. He treated an elder couple next to us very well and spoke to them politely and made general conversation with them. However me and my friend are both only 18 and while we were polite and respectable he treated us in a complete different matter, with a monotone voice and not looking up from recording our stuff. For such a nice place I expected better and equal service. We had to get up and walk to the bar to ask for second servings of wine as no one came to serve us. The food was very nice quality though, we were both satisfied and too full for any dessert. The menu is very minimal and it was going through go changes when we came so only a few selections were available. While on the costly side it's a nice place to treat yourself.

You don't come here to pick up, look good, or do anything other than caterwaul on the stage to shitty '80s power ballads and bad '90s RnB while the crowd in front of you sways put of time and spills beer on each other. Never go away, Pickled Possum. There is quite literally no other lace like you and never will be.

The food is share style with generous servings and the drinks list is impressive. I recommend the salt and pepper squid, pork sliders, zucchini chips. They say you should get 3 plates for two people, 5 plates for 3. This formula will leave you uncomfortably full. You can book ahead and they do have time limits on the tables but we were over and nobody seemed to care so they obviously manage their system well. It can get hot inside in the warmer months so a table outside is recommended. So we walked north across the bridge into a district called Kirribilli after we found The Botanist on Yelp. Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set a little off the main strip downstairs from the bridge's main street is this gem perched right on the corner. It's so cute, cozy and quaint. It looks a little small on the outside, but once you're in the door and downstairs it opens up quite a bit. You're transported into what felt like, an Italian, wine bar! The lighting was dim, the noise level was moderate, the people were friendly and there was such a chic ambiance here. I really enjoyed it. We merely stopped in for a drink since we had dinner reservations later, but this was a great place to stop. Service: We sat in the bar area of course and the bartender took excellent care of us. No complaints here. Food/Drinks: I had their S'Mores Espresso Martini which was so beautiful, well-balanced, a bit sweet, chocolatey and not very strong, but it was cool. It came with a gorgeous and super-tasty piece of chocolate that was so perfect. Value: Like any downtown big city cocktail bar, nothing is going to be cheap. My martini was $23.00 AUS which translates to $14.55. They do have full-service dinner here which looked very interesting and delicious, but maybe next time!
