Dishonest foreign credit card charging practice

Don't pay in foreign credit card even it is foreign transaction fefree type. Food is decent, above average. Service is below average probably because they don't expect tips like in the US. Only thing I don't like is their payment system. After I get the bill, I gave them my Bank of America credit card. The cashier charged it in US dollar without asking me. I asked him why doesn't he charge in English pound. He told me the card reader did it automatically in the currency of my card. My credit card gives me an exchange rate of $1.31 to 1£ without any fee. His credit card reader gives an exchange rate of $1.358 to 1£ plus 3.5% fee. After I saw the receipt, it states clearly I should be provided with a choice of choosing which currency to pay. They should stop this kind of dishonest practice of overcharging foreign customers.

I have to say the spicy beef soup noodles in here is the best I have ever tried in the UK! To be honest, as a Chinese, I have been disappointed about the Chinese food in Chinatown of London. But during my trip in York, this place was such a surprise as the noodles they served was really authentic and delicious. My friend and I were so satisfied after eating up a big bowl of the noodles in a cold winter night as our Chinese stomachs loved it soooooo much! Please try it if you do love hot and spicy Chinese food.

The Sweet & Sour Chicken was some of the best I've ever had. Also had the Chicken Fried Rice, and Egg Rice. All of it was excellent.

When I saw the following intro online on this restaurant's menu I knew I had to try it…read more "Thai food is traditionally shared, so KhaoSan Road would like to introduce a new way of Thai dining - Thai tapas! All dishes on our menu are small plates. We recommend ordering 3 dishes per person (or more if youre hungry) and sharing all dishes with the table so you can enjoy all the flavours Thai food has to offer." Thai food is one of the hubby and my favorite cuisines. AND I love to sample and share new foods. Perfect! We chose the following: 1) Moo Grop sauce Makarm (Crispy pork belly with spicy tamarind sauce) 2) Jaw Rang (Prawns with coconut milk, fresh turmeric, lemongrass & chilli) 3) Pad Thai Pra To Pee (Pad Thai noodles with egg, beansprouts and chives) 4) Coconut Rice 5) The special: Khao soi (a coconut curry noodle soup) Angie was our server. I told her what I liked and asked her what on the menu would best meet my expectations. She was right on the mark. (Of course the hubby ordered his normal - Pad Thai.) It took a little while to get our order, but they were extremely busy. And they were making specific dishes just for us. The dishes were unique. The chef made them his own and each one was delicious. This was a hit with both the hubby and me. The restaurant is very small with limited seating. We walked in without a reservation on a Wednesday night at 7:30 and , thankfully, they squeezed us in. My suggestion is to call ahead for a reservation. You will be glad you did. Yum.

Amazing food! I highly recommend this restaurant. Best Thai food I've ever eaten. Whatread more

The best of the Red Chilli chain of Chinese restaurants, and the best Chinese restaurant I've been…read moreto - of many. Don't listen to the few detractors who don't seem to know the first thing about Chinese food. Red Chilli is an excellent small chain of (4) restaurants in Manchester (2), Leeds (1) and York (1). I have been to all of them during my travels in England, and the consistently high quality of real, authentic Chinese food (I should know: I've been to China and was in a relationship with a Chinese woman, who also enjoyed cooking - for a number of years) distinguishes Red Chilli restaurants from most other establishments even in the nation's small Chinatown districts. Unfortunately, the equally consistently unfriendly service in no way differentiates this chain from all the other Chinese restaurants, be it in London's tourist-y Soho, or anywhere else. If you are traveling /eating alone, like I usually do, expect to be treated like a pariah. Anyway, the food is good to great and entirely characteristic of the Szechuan cuisine especially. Those who complain about "no flavor" clearly either have their taste buds dimmed by decades of smoking e.g., or just do not know anything about *real* Chinese food. The spicier dishes here, especially my personal favorite (stir-fried pig intestines, or eel, with dry red chili), aren't for the squeamish. Expect repeated visits to the toilet later that night, with a burning anus to spare. Don't worry, it's totally worth it. Other recommendable dishes include stir-fried baby octopus with onions and preserved vegetables, deep-fried fish fillet in various forms, and pig-in-a-pot. I haven't had a bland or less-than-decent dish in ANY of the Red Chill restaurants. Highly recommended!
