I used to be a customer at this restaurant when it was located on Bolsa Avenue. I thought it was closed permanently, but my friends told me it had moved to this new location at the corner of Westminster and Newland. Last weekend, we went there to dine in, but we regretted wasting our time and money. I ordered Bun Rieu Cua Tuoi, but the broth was too salty, and I thought I was drinking salt water. Toppings were much fewer than those of other competitors. I just ate as little as one-third and then gave up. One of my friends ordered Mien Vit Sao Mang. The broth was still salty, but it was not that bad, compared to mine. However, the duck meat was undercooked, and the portion was much smaller. Another friend ordered Bun Cha Ha Noi. The Meat wasn't that juicy, but dry, and the portion was much smaller as well. The last one ordered Thanh Tri Dac Biet. Cha Lua and Cha Chien weren't fresh, and Nem Chua tasted so strange. Thit Heo Xay wrapped inside Banh Uot was tasteless, and Banh Tom Chien was overcooked. Generally speaking, it was a bad dining experience and a huge disappointment. Prices were reasonable, but the quality of the food was bad, and the portions were much smaller than those of other competitors. For such reasons, we'll never come back there. read more

We have come here about a dozen times, even at their prior location on Bolsa Ave. They have relocated to a corner spot that is smaller and cozier, but these padded chairs are not conducive for large groups like their prior wooden ones . Our party of 10 were banging on each other's armchairs trying to get in and out of our seats. My banh canh was flavorful but the ratio of tom cua to noodles was so sparse. I was not full after eating it. The hot tea is served in individual paper coffee cups, which was alittle weird. The rest of my table had all their popular items. We came here together for Mother's Day because my mom loves this place. It was my first time so I was pretty excited to try a new spot she had found with my dad. The inside is very tight niche, rowdy with everyone talking, but also comforting and nostalgic. My dad got the bun rieu without the snails, my brother got the dry noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls, and finally my mom and I got the same thing (bun rieu with oc). Once we ordered, the waitress gave us a pleasant surprise that for Mother's Day our mom gets to pick one additional food item for free and she can take it home. I thought that was the sweetest and best customer service I've ever experienced! Bun Rieu (with and w/out snail) - 4.5/5 I like that the base is clear and fresh. It's not super salty, but makes sense because they give you shrimp paste on the side and you can adjust the sodium level accordingly. There was a bit too much of the noodles to protein ration though Bun Thit Nuong - 4.5/5 it was flavorful and eggroll was perfectly crunchy. Took my parents here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It's a pretty busy place considering the reviews don't show it. My mom has been here several times and really loves their cooking and she's picky considering she knows how to make most of this food. This restaurant is known for their duck soup. The duck meat looks nicely cooked and tender. The flavor was amazing. Bun thit nhon was really good as well especially the egg roll. The rapper was so different from anything I've tried extra crispy! I came here for dinner on a weekday and was surprised, it wasn't as crowded as their old location in Catinat. The new restaurant is small, but there were plenty of empty tables. The food came out very quickly. I ordered Bún Vịt Xào Măng (duck with rice noodle soup, served with cabbage salad), one of their signature dishes. The duck was tender, and the ginger sauce made it even better. I requested duck legs only, but they still included some bones and wings. I've been a local fan of Hong Mai since their original location. They just moved here a couple of years ago but the quality has still remained the same. I absolutely love their duck noodles! The quality of the cabbage salad is so fresh and the duck portion is generous with a lot of meat. The soup itself is very flavorful and the portion is a rather good size. Another item that I would always recommend and get myself here are the egg-rolls. They are so good and honestly I can eat the entire portion myself. Those two are the two I would highly recommend. The location is just a bit tighter than the other but it's not bad. The service was good. They were nice to bring us extra bowls and scissors for the kids without us asking. I had a bit of a frustrating experience today with a duck noodle soup order. My friend's portion was full of meat, while mine had noticeably more bones. There was some meat, but it just wasn't balanced. I calmly mentioned it, hoping they'd understand and maybe offer to fix it. Instead, they just told me to 'look again' as if I couldn't see for myself. And then they got a bit passive-aggressive and said next time I should ask for more meat upfront--like, how was I supposed to know that's even an option?
