This was very delicious and plenty of food for three of us. I got the spicy broth and I think I would have preferred the original. It was a tad too spicy but they gave me more regular broth when my friend asked for me. One thing I loved was how the mushrooms came on a mushroom shaped plate.
There is no parking so we parked at Ala Moana and walked over. The broth was a little too gingery for me and my husband didn't care for the seaweed in the broth. They don't really have a lot to select from. They did have two other broths on their specials board which we didn't see until after we ordered. I definitely regret getting the house seasonings, but again there wasn't much choices for dipping sauces either but it was a bunch of spices. I was a little annoyed that the fish ball said it was filled with roe but when I ate it, it was filled with meat and not roe which is the one thing I really wanted. So that was disappointing. And our total was about $100 for two of us. The staff were great and really nice and checked on us frequently. From the same folks at Honolulu Skewer House, Honolulu Hotpot Hale is a new Chinese hot pot spot near Ala Moana. It's near Ala Moana but not in the mall, so parking can be tricky. Your best bet might be parking at the mall (target side) and walking over. My friend lives nearby so we were able to walk over from her apartment. She has been here a few times and when they started their weekly specials- we made a plan to go together on a Tuesday for their BOGO meat yard. We got their lamb and pork belly-- along with duck feet ( it was my first time trying it, I think it taste like tripe!) and their fish ball with row for our proteins. I will say, I do slightly regret ordering the pork belly, it was very fatty and with the oily soup- it was just very oily. Next time, I'd stick with just the lamb or try out the beef. For veggies we got a few sets: V1 mushroom set, LOVE that it comes in on a cute mushroom plate V2 with cabbage, broccoli, spinach and a Chinese greens V6 with glass noodles V7 frozen tofu If this was an AYCE spot, I def would have ordered more veggies (and probably felt better the next morning). My favorite part of hot pot is all the different veggies, especially mushrooms and cabbage to balance out the oil in the hot pot broth and all the fatty meat. I ordered their Chinese sauerkraut soup base -- I feel like sauerkraut isn't the best way to describe it- it does have that vinegary, almost kimchi like vibe, but more in line with a Tom Yum soup base. Each soup comes individually and is $6-- plus they will refill your soup with base throughout your meal as it boils off. My friend got the spicy broth and says that it's the spiciest hot pot on the island. I will say, that the grills don't have a heat setting - it's either on or off and you can't really adjust it if you think the soup is too hot. For dipping sauce we got their lime vinegar sauce, it's honestly so good would highly recommend! The vibes and atmosphere is honestly where it's at. From the stone limewash walls, plants hanging everywhere and the cute colors of the hot pot grills -- I really love the aesthetic here.
First time here. I was not impressed. Very limited options in vegetables and sauces. They do have more options on meat than most hot pot. Not on seafood though. Portion was small. They have weekday specials and we happened to go on Wednesday for their half off wagyu items. Such a good deal! The meat portions are pretty large overall and great for sharing. I got the beef broth and it was pretty good. I definitely liked the vinegar lime sauce! Service was very friendly but a little slow. We only received the wagyu once we were almost done with everything else, including our veggies and rice (and after being told twice it was coming out soon). They also have takeout containers available if you're not able to finish your food or want to take home the broth!
It's truly amazing how one look, comment, or act can completely make or break a dining experience. This place is getting 2 stars because the food is amazing, but my experience was completely ruined by my server making an unnecessary, smart @$$ comment! Backstory: I'm by no means a regular, but I have been here several times before. I don't live in town and they don't open until 5PM, so when o find myself this side in the evening time, I make it a point to stop by. Parking isn't super convenient but the food is worth it! Today: I come in as a party of 1 and am seated at a lovely table by the window. She brings me a menu, asks if I've been there before (I say yes), and leaves me to decide. A reasonable amount of time later, the server returns to take my order. After I place it and while I'm waiting for my food, I decide to go wash my hands. I walk up to the counter and ask where the restroom is. Her reply was "I thought you have been here before?" AT THIS POINT there is nothing that you can say to recover this experience. This completely unnecessary smart Alec remark changed the entire dynamic. Not only is the flawed assumption that every customer goes to the bathroom in play, but you are in the customer service business! Idk if I have been here 50-11 times, if I ask, you tell me where the restroom is and keep your smart ass mouth to your self! It's not often that I leave NO TIP, but today was the day...
No wait for dinner time on a Monday night. Flavorful Broth, good amount of spice. Not ayce but a decent amount of meat on the yard plate for about $32 Cool portable Burners, Clean interior, city location with street nearby. No bathroom inside restaurant that I could find but maybe it was somewhere outside. Service was ok, friendly but not super attentive. Only wierd thing was that there was a sign for 15% off bill on Mondays I think but when we inquired about it they said we have to write a review or check in on yelp first and then show the staff before we could get the discount. The sifnoutside didn't mention that part but it was ok.
Came here on a Tuesday night walk-in for the first time. This hot pot place is conveniently located close to the Ala Moana mall, just a walk away. Friendly staff welcomed us and introduced us to how to order. They suggested a special deal of the day: buy 1 and get 1 yard of meat, so we got Prime beef short rib and the Kurobota belly. Still a bit pricey, but loved the presentation of the meat, and we were each given our own heating pots. I tried the Chinese Sauerkraut soup--and it's definitely a relatively new taste for me as a hot pot soup. Slightly spicy, but I loved it! Original beef soup is the other option if you can't decide. The sauces have room for improvement IMO... For veggies, I got the glass noodles and sweet potato noodles (super slippery if you have trouble using chopsticks- grab it with something else, LOL, no one is judging). I recommend it! Plus, you can't miss some scoops of rice (Asian, you know). Shoutouts to the friendly staff, as it always makes a difference. Recommended after a whole day out at the mall or wherever you came from!

Came for lunch on a weekday at the typical lunch time. The restaurant was empty. This was good because service was fast. I was also weary as to why the restaurant wasn't busy during lunchtime. The food and broth was amazing. Everything was fresh. I asked the server why it's so slow when the food is so good. She said some customers or people checking out the restaurant say it's too expensive. It is on the pricier side for hot pot, but again, the vegetables are fresh and the meat is good quality. They are located on Keeaumoku. I walked here, so I'm not sure about parking. You could park at the Ala Moana mall and walk over. Its right across the street! The restaurant is very clean and its got a comfortable vibe. I can't wait to come back!
We were craving hot pot tonight and was tired and Shaboya so we tried Honolulu Hot Pot and was very pleased with the quality of food. Chicken broth was great. We also got a foot long order of the prime beef toro. If u like some fat your thinly sliced beef try this one. All seasonings was delicious and enhanced the beef flavor. Veggies were fresh and crispy. Would highly recommend giving this place a shot. They will surprise your belly.

The food was great honestly but man the price tag was high for the type and quality of the food! Seriously, $8 for a small plate of frozen tofu? 2 adults 1 toddler, our bill came out to be $160...!!!! For $80 per person we could probably get some high quality sushi somewhere else. It seems to me that they're trying to be like haidilao or at least some reviewers compared this to that, however, haidilao is on another level. Their service was amazing, a lot of staff and very thoughtful of your needs with a good setup and attentive servers. This was not the case here. I mean yeah the quality of the food was good and the soup base was delicious too, but with this price tag and such service, it was not worth it. We came here initially because the wait for another hot pot place was ridiculous. I think We'd rather stick with what we used to next time. read more

Visiting the islands and stop by this place nearby my hotel. Everything was wonderful, including the food and the service. CJ was so patient. And helpful. He came to check on us numerous times to make sure he gave us the attention to optimize our visit. Definitely worth a try and the food was delicious. read more

1 Yard Toro was pretty good! I think it goes well best with the original beef soup or the Hale spicy soup. We tried the sauerkraut broth because Thursday is post a review get free broth, and the soup base is pretty good; kind of like Chinese sauerkraut fish soup. It did make the stomach feel good. Okay, Honolulu Hotpot Hale is legit. That's a big thing for me to say because the Chinese hotpot scene is pretty weak. Here, you won't see the Saran-wrapped colored plates, or twenty types of broths. I'm a fan of Honolulu Skewer House, so glad it's sister restaurant is good too! This place might be hard to find as it's a little hidden next to Verizon and JJ2 Bakery in the Pacific Guardian Tower. It was previously an Ube place. The biggest issue is the parking because there is none. But you can park along Kapiolani Blvd for free after 7PM and anytime on Sunday. Or you can park at some nearby shopping center or a certain Mart and walk over. It's not a big place and only open at dinner time, so it might be better to make a reservation. The inside is very clean with the concrete floors and walls, and metal chairs. You get your own personal burner and hotpot. There are 5 broth choices (beef, tomato, Chinese sauerkraut, Hale medium, Hale Spicy). I'm not sure why they INSIST TO NOT get the Hale Spicy. My friend came previously, and they said the same. What, we give off the impression we no can handle? Caaaaannn! Fine, I just got the Hale Medium, which was pretty mild to me. Hale Spicy next time for sure! The broth was tasty and flavorful though, and looked great. It was just a touch spicy and I didn't get any numbing sensation at all. There's 4 sauce selections with unlimited refills. Sweet sesame, mild sesame, lime vinegar, and Honolulu Skewer House seasonings. Sesame is always the way to go. The menu selection reminds me of Eat On Time because it had items such as Beef Throat (Aorta over there), Duck blood cake, beef stomach, and those other goodies. But the quality of meat is much better with New Zealand Lamb, 100% Kurobuta Pork, Beef Short Rib, even A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye!, and etc. You order by yard or half a yard. 1 yard is obviously the better deal. But it's a lot of meat. I was with a few of my friends. We had the Beef Short Rib and Beef Shank. Yup, it was a lot of meat. All evenly sliced and beautifully presented on a wooden board. And actually not frozen! Unlike some places. Both were so soft and tender and of amazing quality. There are a lot of sets which are great to try some of everything with an option to order Ala carte. We had the B1 (Beef Tendon, Beef Tripe, Beef Throat, and Luncheon Meat). I have no idea how Luncheon Meat makes sense with this set, but oh well. Enjoyed everything. Throat was the best! S1 (Kauai Shrimp, Basa Fish Fillet, Abalone, and Squid). Everything was good here too. Nicely prepared and defrosted properly. No freezer burns here. 3 pieces shrimp and abalone, 5 pieces fish and squid. V1 Mushroom Set (Enoki, King Oyster, Brown Shimeji, and Wood Ear). Good amount of everything. Love mushrooms! V2 (Baby Cabbage [Napa], Iceberg Lettuce, Spinach, and Chrysanthemum Leaves). Fresh vegetables! Oh how they soaked up all the broth and spicy oil on top. Ended with the handmade noodles. These were good, and tasted like they're from a certain noodle factory. Way to uniform to be handmade lol. Handmade into a machine. Make sure you have a full amount of broth because the flour on the noodles will quickly thicken your already super reduced broth. Overall, I was rather impressed by Honolulu Hotpot Hale. The food was excellent. Fresh, solid quality, and well prepared. Beautiful presentation! Nice selections. On par pricing. Awesome broth. Service was fantastic. Very friendly, helpful, and attentive. Yes, thank you for reminding customers how spicy the Hale Spicy is, but some can handle. Unless they're actually challenging you? My friend did accept the challenge, but failed haha. Went with a friend to this place. We didn't make reservations but they were able to seat us down. The menu is easy to read and just pick a broth, meat, sauce, and veggies you want. The veggies comes in a set or you can pick individually. It's all up to you. You get your own individual pot too. The meats are really good here! We got the brisket and beef toro. You can pick either half a yard or a yard. If you are a big meat eater fan, a yard is worth it! We ordered the mushroom and vegetable sets. The vegetable sets does come with a lot of veggies, which we liked. I think it is more worth it than getting the individual one. The service was good too. It was a little busy and there was only two servers. But then a third one came in later and they were very attentive. The only feedback is that this place is on the expensive size for hotpot. The meat and veggie are a little over price. Will come back again but maybe for special events only. read more

Parking: Pacific guardian tower, I know a lot of people park at Walmart and walk over though. Service: hit or miss...I've been here a handful of times and sometimes they're quick but most times they're slow Drinks: I just drink water here :) Food: love their Tom yum broth, the meat is fresh, veggies and mushroom have a nice variety, but the only downside is you can't make your own sauce and you only get to pick one. I wish they were still open for lunch! When they first opened they used to have lunch hours. Overall: I love coming here! But I just wish you could make your own sauce. The deal at Chong Qing at Ward makes it difficult to come here since the price for lunch is unmatched. With that being said...I would prefer to come here for dinner. If they opened for lunch here and offer rice instead of noodles with a similar deal as Chong Quing...it would honestly be a toss up. read more

Disclaimer: During their soft opening, when I visited, they were offering a free pitcher of fruit tea in exchange for reviewing their business. They wanted me to review them before giving me the tea, but I told them I can start the review but will not publish until after I've tried the food. Otherwise this would have been my shortest review ever. After remaining firm on my decision, they gave me the tea and I'm posting this review several days later :D I honestly think that's the worse promo ever, so please be mindful of that when reading reviews for this place as others may have reviewed before even eating. Idk. Honolulu Hotpot Hale is located on Keeaumoku right between Verizon and J2 Bakery. If you plan to go with a large party, be sure to call for reservations to make sure they can accommodate. Their space is not very big. Setup is a little different from the other hot pot places on island. Soups are all individual (each order comes with 1 dipping sauce - $1.99 for an extra). I'm not a huge fan of this since it's a slightly costly mistake if I ordered a sauce I don't like. For example, my boyfriend and brother both ordered the Honolulu Skewer House Seasonings and my bf did not care for it at all - it's literally seasonings. It's not a sauce at all. The sweet sesame sauce and the mild sesame sauce were both good, although I didn't have the chance to try the lime vinegar sauce. Step 1- choose soup and sauce. The Chinese sauerkraut soup is nice if you like spicy and sour. The original beef soup is good for those who don't like spice and comes with corn and other goodies in there. I really liked the Hale Mild Soup, which was the perfect amount of spice for me. My brother got the spicy soup and said he kind of regrets getting it so spicy so get that with caution. All the soups (except maybe the tomato soup- double check with your server) comes with a beef broth base so vegetarians - tomato may be your only option. Step 2- Order your meats and vegetables. This is probably easier to order as a table as it's meant to be shared. Since we had a party of 10, we went down the menu and decided what we wanted before the server came back to take our orders. Everything seemed pretty high quality so you can't go wrong. The only thing is the servings are pretty small. Just so you have a simple idea, we ordered 2 yards of beef (short rib and chuck roll), 2 orders of the pork belly, 1 B2, 2 S2, 1S3, 3 V2, 2 V3, 1 V5, 1 V6, several bowls of rice, and 2 scallion pancakes and we were just satisfied at the end of our meal. Usually when I go to hotpot, I'm roll-me-out-the-door stuffed. Our total came out to about $40 a person. So not crazy expensive but given that usually I'm more full at that price, it's not cheap. A few things to note, rice is $2.99/bowl or scoop (scoop is listed on the menu and that is very accurate). The bowl of rice is TINY! I'm pretty sure several men in my family were probably still hungry after dinner because they normally would eat 3 amounts of that but no one wants to pay $2.99 per SCOOP of rice. So they just settled for 1 scoop each. The scallion pancake is pretty small too so not cheap, but SO GOOD! Get it! Service was also very good, as the servers were very attentive and checked on us often to see if we needed more water, soup, etc. Definitely one of the better service I've gotten from a Chinese establishment. Final thoughts: I enjoyed my experience but at that price for what you get, I'm not sure when I'd be back. Maybe if it was just me and my boyfriend, but not another party of 10, that's for sure. read more

So excited another hotpot place opened up in town. I am a big fan of Honolulu Skewers House and was looking forward to try this place out. Honolulu Hotpot Hale is located between JJ Bakery and Verizon. Their soft opening is today (August 6) and they are offering a free special drink if you post on Google, Yelp, or IG. I visited this place with my family and the space was at a moderate size. It was more spacious and larger than their skewers sister location at Kapahulu. Their menu comes in sets. It was kind of strange since you have to order in the set and not by Ala Carte or individually. Our server said that one set is good for 3 people to eat. We ordered the individual Hale Mild Soup which was similar to the Original Beef Soup but with a little kick. Each soup comes with a side of sauce. Any additional sauce would cost another $1.99. We also ordered the prime beef short rib, prime beef brisket, scallion pancake, set B1, set S3, set V2, set V3, and set V5. Their special hale drink is their tropical fruit tea. The Hale Mild Soup was pretty good. The flavor and the spices were there. It was mild but there is some spicy kick. The hotpot ingredients were fresh. It was tasty with the broth and the dipping sauce. My sweet sesame sauce was fragrant and savory with a hint of sweetness. The mild sesame sauce my family chosen has more of the nutty sesame flavor and it had chili oil on top. The scallion pancake was so good. It was thin, flaky, and savory but it was a little burnt on the bottom. The tropical fruit tea was very refreshing and delicious. It had many combination of different fruits in the drink. Overall, a pretty good hotpot place. I wished their menu would come in Ala Carte style since some items on their sets we weren't really interested in. The service was friendly but a little slow, there were only two servers for the soft opening, but they were helpful with explaining the menu. Definitely a place to check out. read more
