Do NOT go to this office. They cancelled my two appointments with NO notice. They claimed the first time I told them I called them and told them I "changed my mind" and that the second time I called and left a voicemail saying I wanted to cancel. I asked if they could be confusing me with another patient because I never changed my mind and I certainly never called and left a message trying to cancel. They said no and that they wouldn't accommodate me because my chart said I had cancelled multiple times before. I've never had a prior appointment with them so that's not possible. I even called multiple times to confirm my appointment both times before making the drive and never received a call back or confirmation. Both times myself and my partner had to take two days off work to be able to spend the night in Hilo. We had to hire a pet sitter both days. The second time (today), we drove almost five hours round trip only to learn that my appointment had been cancelled and I had been discharged as a patient for multiple cancellations. We were rudely dismissed by their receptionist who was truly awful for no reason and said "welcome to Hawai'i" when I told her I had called to confirm but never gotten a call back. I've met Dr. Russo on O'ahu when I was younger and he seemed like a nice doctor. His receptionists are going to make him lose a lot of patients for trying to blame his patients for their scheduling mistakes. read more

Dr Russo is amazing. He is very smart and he really listens. I first went to him for insomnia and he quickly diagnosed me with sleep apnea. He got me a quiet, comfortable CPAP machine, after which I slept like a baby. He has the kind of sleep study that you can do in your own home, which is so much nicer than going to a facility to sleep. Later, I had a stroke and he cared for me after that as well, made sure I got the best brain imaging in HNL. He is always on time and never acts like he is rushed. Here's the review of my issue with these sorry pathetic clowns: What a clown car wreck is this sorry lot! Save yourself the anguish & avoid them all. Truly a shame she cannot find more suitable colleagues, up to her par, to work with. Her office staff is abysmal - every single one of them I interacted with were paragons of what NOT to do in a professional setting! Incompetent, rude, lazy, dishonest & unprofessional. They couldn't email a simple link to take a cognitive test for over a month. I called four times & each time they said they would, but didn't. Then got RUDE WITH ME because I had the temerity to call back to ask them to do what they had already said repeatedly they would do---but DIDN'T. AND---they NEVER sent the dietary program info---but still got all HUHU with me because I dared to ask them to do what they said they would--but DIDN'T. In all, I've wasted over two months on these bozos, & my insurance company has been ripped off LARGE! To the tune of over a GRAND!! Because Dr. Russo has fraudulently billed over $1000 for his 'bait & switch' BS. These scoundrels are defrauding our health care system. Shame on the lot of them! Office staff at this facility is a complete non-starter. And the guy she works for (Dr. Russo) can best be summed up with the phrases 'malpractice' & 'insurance fraud'. Great employees, but unacceptable service. If you don't get test results despite requesting and confirmed, if the Doctor declines to redo a test that didn't work, if the doctor doesn't tell you that a machine didn't function properly, if the results of one of the tests are not being shared, if the doctor declines to discuss the results, I think that is sufficient reason for not being satisfied with the service. Definitely not going back, since the patient's concerns were not addressed as a whole. read more

Dr. Russo is a horrible, greedy man. His DEEG, that he claims is "superior", is a JOKE. After the procedure, he literally said, "Something is going on in your temporal lobe", which was already common knowledge. NO FOLLOW UP. During my DEEG, the Cleaning Lady was vacuuming the upstairs bedroom; not conducive to trying to sleep/relax during this procedure. Ida should be ashamed for allowing this to occur. As for the upstairs "suite": WARNING: Strip off the bedding and there is a STAIN 3 feet in diameter, and NO Protective covering for the mattress. My guess is that someone died in that bed. Dr. Russo has a framed Check for ZERO dollars hanging in his office, complaining that he doesn't get paid. More proof of his absolute GREED. His staff, Jennifer & Ida, told me that they don't know anything about the Portal. ??? The Portal is apparently used ONLY to collect money. Questions to Dr. Russo, and requests for REFILLS are never addressed. I ran out of my medication and ended up back in the hospital thanks to THEIR IMCOMPETENCE. When I complained about their NEGLIGENCE, without even bothering to inform me, they DISCHARGED me as a patient. All Dr. Russo cares about is $$$ and working your Insurance to extract the MAXIMUM dollar amount. Did I say GREEDY??? Instead of addressing my epilepsy, he made sure to put me on a CPAP machine; more money for Dr. Russo. AVOID Dr. Russo and his horrible Staff if you can. Can I give ZERO STARS?? We just had a terrible interaction with this clinic. We are in Hilo and called the number listed: 808-294-3332. My son suffers from severe social anxiety. It has taken him months to muster up the courage to make a phone call on his own. After much coaxing, he made his first phone call by himself without me dialing and talking first. The girl that answered the phone! She was very rude and definitely should not be working in ANY healthcare clinic. My son told her what he wanted to set up an appointment, she told him he needed a referral. My son attempted to ask a question about obtaining a referral, but she cut him off, told him to have a good day and hung up!!!!!! Now, my son is back at square one and won't make another phone call on his own! Now is he willing to go out shopping or be around people with me now, ... something he's been getting better and better at... but now, after that phone call to the Neuroscience Clinic, won't go anywhere that involved people interaction. First, a disclaimer: this review is for Dr. Russo ONLY, not his office staff or the clinic building itself (which is musty-smelling and a bit down-at-the-heels). That being said.... Dr. Russo is one of the most kind, caring, and thorough physicians I have ever encountered. I was referred to him recently by a primary care doctor who recommended him highly. Although it took awhile to see him (both scheduling the appointment and on the day of the appointment itself), I can honestly say he was worth the wait. For starters, the good doctor treated me with the utmost courtesy, professionalism and respect. He took all the time I/he needed to get to the root of my primary complaint, covering seemingly unrelated symptoms that likely have a common root cause. He listened carefully, repeated back to me what I said to check for understanding, asked thoughtful follow-up questions, and then took plenty of time to explain his medical opinion and treatment advice. Throughout the visit, he gave me his undivided attention and treated me like I was his top priority. I wish all medical professionals had his exemplary bedside manner! Dr. Russo's office is located in the Pacific Tech building, which is on the 'ewa side of Ward Ave., facing Sports Authority/Ward Gateway Plaza (Supercuts is on the ground floor at the corner of the building, facing the street). Be forewarned that the parking lot is ridiculously undersized, so if you are driving yourself in anything bigger than a Smart car or moped, you should probably plan to park across the street at Ward Gateway Plaza. Seriously, you won't be able to exit your vehicle because the stalls are so tight! The clinic is located on the ground floor inside the building courtyard (first storefront on the left). The sign in the window says "Pacific Sleep Tech" (the clinic is also a sleep study lab). Allow about 20 minutes to complete the new patient paperwork, and be sure to have with you a list of your current medications. You will be asked to provide a detailed patient history and a copy of your insurance card, if applicable. Bring something to read or otherwise occupy yourself, because there's a good chance you will wait quite awhile to see the doc. Thankfully, you'll be glad you did at the end of it all! read more

Russo may be an intelligent Dr., but he took an oath that he himself does not follow. Negligence does further harm. After trying to stick it through with him for 9yrs, praising his ability, and trying to balance my own medical problems I've been completely let down after receiving my records in the mail and the letter that he was leaving Oahu. Let's talk about that as it pertains to my review. As he exited the military with boxing gloves on, he was awarded the money that allowed him to opened the 2 practices, one on each island. As the Big Island produced 3 times more patients (but he was initially only there for 1 week a month), his supply/demand ratio was completely lopsided. His quality of care was TERRIBLE for Oahu. You already could not get refills, could not get through on phone, and most importantly the quality of care when he saw u, was rushed-- and he charted more mistakes on my record than I've seen in over 25 years! ! I saw this immediately, but I was determined to go back and let him correct his mistake. The mistakes continued along with the loss of my records. He appeared rushed and not mentally present. I tried to continue to comply with his orders, but he just repeated my sleep studies, 3 done, then he ordered ANOTHER one after he "lost" my records. He threw me on one med, then he'd just update me to the newest meds for the same condition.He never completed the testing on me and he had the 7th DEEG capability testing ability... So why was the other professional in his Oahu office constantly saying that I needed the testing, yet Russo would do his mad man rambling, chart wrong, and cut? ?? In 2013 he opens a Bed & Breakfast on the Big Island along with his existing Neuro clinic. Negligence increased considerably. He never once called to check on why I had become such a non-compliant patient. I had once respected him above ALL doctors because he once paid attention and got things right, but with my lost faith and increased medical problems, he essentially became useless to me until I had to call his staff for refills. 2015/16 -- He moves his Oahu office and the initial staff disappears! The only people that were paying any attention to me and filling my bare necessary scripts were gone and he moves across the way to set up an inside tent practice that offered no privacy as it had plastic curtain dividers between the rooms. I walked in for my appt and I turned and walked straight out. No way, There's this thing called called HIPPA! It's supposed to afford me privacy--No way was that ok with me and shouldn't be for any patient! Roll up to present day. My pharmacist has been calling the doctor, I had been calling, and I think the Baby Jesus had placed a call for me--- 2 wks, and 1 phone call back to ME where they left one msg and they didn't even refill my meds.. why didn't they call my pharmacist? Simply refill my meds that I NEED? This tells me that we are being sent directly to voicemail. After my pharmacist called and left multiple messages finally a someone from the office called and refilled only one script. .no refills included because he was leaving --and the script was NOT a schedule one or two or anything requiring a signature! So after all of these years I digress. These last 4 years are something of a shame and I feel sick at myself for putting up with something that definitely caused further harm. I've always cared about his progression (personal or business), but as a patient, he should have been the one to care about me. Advice to patients, don't put up with the above described things, they are in the very least unprofessional, not to mention harmful at the top of the no no list. Question to Russo: should your patients be test subjects? Don't you feel the last bit obligated to the patients with maybe like a referral? Finally, as you leave some of us hanging in the Oahu wreckage --what about that Hippocratic Oath? Dr. Michael B Russo has helped me take control of narcolepsy and cataplexy immensely. He is the kind of doctor who truly listens to what your concerns are. One thing I love about Dr. Russo is that he doesn't look at me like I'm just another patient with Narcolepsy and Cataplexy; rather he sees me a new unique individual who is struggling with sleep inconsistency and muscle weakness, different from others in my own ways. He is great at explaining the conditions and medications and is very honest in answering any and all questions one might have. The staff is top-notch. The girls at the front are on it! From booking my appointment, appointment reminders, to being thorough with my prescription, follow-ups, among other things. I was referred here by my PCP office for cervical and other nerve related pain issues. Upon exiting my vehicle, I was a bit confused because I wasn't aware that they are in the "Sleep Tech" office. I was looking for a Neurologist, not a sleep doctor. Anyway, parking was a-plenty and convenient and google maps led me right the parking lot. I would say that this place lacks a little bit of "professionalism". I was confused as to who it was that was taking me in to check my vitals...because she didn't seem to be dressed in the "typical" medical office attire. Dress code non-existent aye? I'm okay with that. She was sweet enough so that's fine. Then, a man who was sitting in front of a cpu asking me questions while answering his cel phone several times was..... nice but...who was he??? I thought he was the Doctor! I was spewing to him as though he were, and not until I addressed him as "Dr. Russo" did I know differently. Confusion! Bottom line though, Dr. Russo and his staff are really good. Dr. Russo in particular, definitely took the time necessary, in fact went beyond to be sure that my issues were addressed. I like his style. I like him. If someone is going to help me find relief, I've a good idea that it may be him. Be advised that the place is set up with beds in the very large rooms. It's a sleep center; I was expecting a Doctors office so be prepared; you may have to resist the urge to lay on one of the beds and nap. read more

I am a Tactical Commander for a U.S. Embassy's security Response Team. I was responsible for ensuring the safety and security of top-level U.S. diplomats in a high risk environment. Aloha All! My son got his first seizure at the age of one, and had been on anti-seizure medication until we met Dr. Russo. Thanks to the help of Dr. Russo's Dense Array EEG machine, Dr. Russo was able to properly diagnose my son as having the kind of seizures that do not require medication. That was the best day of my son's and my life, and he is now a healthy and happy middle schooler. The equipment that "the best medical facilities in Hawaii" have are in fact inadequate, and have done an injustice to my son's medical care for over ten years. I was referred to Dr Russo in 2015 and began seeing him since. I am a vet and so is he, so he understood a lot of things I was going thru. He was sensitive and attentive to my needs and listened to what I had to say. I had a bad back injury from deployment and he asked me why my PCP didn't schedule me for a MRI. So he scheduled me for my head and back mri. Very caring doctor. He has moved twice since then and had to restart over with his staff. After speaking to him recently about what happened, I don't blame him. His last staff, particularly one certain person really screwed him financially. His new front desk technician is on the ball and takes care of business promptly. He has helped me with my VA compensation process and been very helpful in other areas very important in my life. I appreciate caring doctors like him. All of his equipment is very precise and top notch diagnosing all my problems.
