The staff in the Overland Park office are horrible and condescending. The previous office manager was ditzy but polite. I intentionally included directions on which Kansas Homestead form to complete and they ignored it. The guy who said I wasn't eligible was extremely rude, but after consulting with the state, found out that I was right. I do not recommend this office. They were great until they were purchased by Paul Hood. Another small business that got greedy. read more

I brought my tax documents to PaulHood's local office and paid for 5 sets of returns in mid-February, 2025. I was never told that the returns would not be prepared by April 15. It was the beginning of August before all returns were filed. Many mistakes were made. Two of the returns had to be amended. I was forced to pay interest and penalties because of the late filings, as well as the cost of certified mailings because the office manager gave me erroneous information about being able to pay the balance due on trust returns through IRS.gov. One of their mistakes caused the IRS to levy invalid penalties and interest on the trust returns. Since August I have spent 1 day a month on the phone with the IRS (each call involves an average hold time of 2 hours; with repeated disconnections and callbacks it can amount to 6 - 10 hours). I finally resolved one trust in October and the other trust in January. These problems are just the tip of the iceberg. PaulHood utilizes a "team management approach," which means that no one takes responsibility for anything. Everyone fingerpoints and passes the buck to someone else. You can speak with customer service representatives, but must communicate with the tax professionals by email. Most of the customer service representatives are new employees hired at the beginning of the tax season. While some are good, most are frazzled and never get back to you as promised. The same goes for the so-called tax professionals. When responses are forthcoming, it generally takes weeks or months. The CPA who had signature authority over my returns was a new hire who lasted less than a year with PaulHood. PaulHood is a nightmare to be avoided at all costs. read more

What is promised is NOT what is delivered. They only do the most basic of services, if there is any complexity in your personal or business return, do NOT use Paul Hood CPAS They are unresponsive. The only option to contact them if you need them is to send an email. There is no direct phone number, only a general email address. A response to a ticket can take anywhere from 1 week to 1 month. Their only goal is to get the tax return completed and filed. They will fill out the tax form without understanding your financials, your business or your needs. They will complete the taxes without speaking to you. This was done for both business returns and our personal return. After about 2 weeks of emailing, we were finally able to review the business return. When I asked to review our personal return about what was done and why, I was told that the return was completed and there was no need to review in detail. Three days later, this was recanted and asked if we could speak in detail at that time. With all of the above issues, we were already stating we needed to find a new CPA. To that, we went to our old CPA, he would not take us back as a client because he said there too many red flags on our last return done by Paul Hood. They say that they have a dedicated teams with expertise specialized areas such as Real Estate. That option was never offered. read more

I engaged Paul Hood Accounting to handle both my personal and S Corporation tax filings. Unfortunately, my experience involved numerous communication gaps, unexpected costs, and missed deadlines that caused financial penalties and considerable stress. Throughout the process, I encountered multiple issues that reflected a lack of coordination and professional oversight: Poor communication: Repeated inquiries about required documentation and filing status went unanswered for extended periods. Incomplete guidance: I was not informed that my S Corporation required a separate filing, which doubled my preparation costs. Missed deadlines: I was unaware that the S Corporation filing was due in April and later discovered that no extension had been submitted despite my explicit request. This oversight resulted in a letter from the IRS and a $1,000 late filing penalty. Unexpected additional fees: I received no updates for weeks, then was informed I would need to pay an additional $1,100 to complete the S Corporation filing. Incorrect tax advice: I was told that office expenses could not be deducted, which was later disproven by other professionals. Confusing client portals: Multiple online platforms, login issues, and repeated signature reminders created unnecessary confusion and duplication of work. Billing issues: After a confirmed phone payment, I continued to receive automated overdue reminders. Filing amendment problems: An amendment I paid for, which was meant to reduce liability, instead increased costs and led to additional penalties totaling $1,214. I want to emphasize that I was fully prepared to file and pay my taxes by April. The delays, lack of communication, and failure to file timely extensions were entirely outside my control. While one team member made genuine efforts to assist toward the end, by that point the deadlines had already passed and the financial impact was significant. I'm sharing this review to inform other small business owners who may be considering this firm for tax preparation services. I sincerely hope that Paul Hood Accounting's leadership takes this feedback seriously and makes meaningful improvements to its communication, billing transparency, and quality-control processes. read more
