After 2 more system outages and 2 more technician visits, it appears that the problem is solved. The installers did not properly tie down a ground wire. This caused the intermittent faults. It is just 2 days after the fix. So, i don't know for sure that the problem is gone for good. Hopefully so. Before buying be sure to address who will pay for your electricity when the system has a fault during the warranty period. I don't yet get notifications from the Tesla app (hoping I can get that fixed). So, the impact of a down system on my PGE bill can be worse than when I know the system is down. I could give HOS 5 stars if they would pay for my costs due to system down time. They have declined to do so. So, I think 3 stars is more than fair at this point. HOS system owners: When you have a problem contact your HOS sales person. No one answers their customer service # (and replies to voice messages there are pretty iffy). Also, if you need a technician visit be sure to tell HOS that you expect the technician to show up with ALL the tools needed to diagnose a system fault lest you be forced to wait extra days for a repair. read more

I had Hooked on Solar install solar panels on my roof one year ago but PG and E has still not given permission to operate. We have had no one calling us back from Hooked on Solar. PG and E has told us several times that Hooked on Solar has to fix certain items. When H on S first set up system they drew up plans with circuit breaker and solar control on outside of house. when the workmen came they put those panels in garage but did not revise plan with city inspector. So when city came to inspect they required the plan be updated before giving approval. Several other issues seemed to arise that delayed the approval. I called H on S and asked to speak to the manager but the staff would not put me thru. It has been so awful. I would NOT recommend this solar co to anyone. My partner calls H on S weekly but never gets calls returned. They have left us very frustrated. Don't use this company. read more

I have owned solar from Sunpower/Sunstrong. The unit has worked wonderful since I purchased the house 6 years ago. The only recent change I have made is a new WiFi company. After the new WiFi I noticed the unit was flashing 2 red lights and stopped producing. I will skip the convo I had with Sunstrong, however they told me they could not locate my account and I was out of luck. They provided me with this company. I requested a quote and spoke with Alec on the phone. He advised me they are third party with Sun strong and somehow found my account immediately. This confused me because sun strong was adamant they could not find my residence or account. (Plenty of email traffic) Anyways Alec tells me he found the account. How did he find it and not sunstrong is a mystery. He advised me he could see it was offline. What further does not make sense to me is the $790 which included: a team to lift the panels and verify the serial numbers, he told me this is a must because all my neighbors have solar and there system could not identify which was mine or the neighbors. Now this sure does sound ridiculous in the 2026. Next was claiming serial numbers to existing monitors Now: Complete system check Finally: Helping homeowner gain access I advised I just needed a connection to my system and I was text "we will close the ticket for now" I put this review here for plenty of reasons but most important is transparency. "6" on a Scale of 5! Since Hooked on Solar installed our system, we no longer pay a PG&E bill -- in fact, at our most recent True Up, MCE paid us $330! In addition, this year we received about $100 in incentives (Sync, climate rebate, etc.), so in fact we MADE almost $450 this year on our electric -- and that doesn't include the gas we save on our electric car! Getting a ground mount from Hooked on Solar, plus 2 Tesla batteries, was a fantastic financial decision for us, and we're glad we're doing our part to support the environment as well. Several months ago we had Hooked On Solar install a backup battery to our existing solar panels. They installed a Tesla 10Kw battery, and it was the best investment we could have made. The installation was flawless. The installers were very professional, explained all they were going to accomplish and how the system would work, and left no mess behind. I also received excellent support in getting a rebate that was offered by PG&E at the time. Lastly, we live in an area where power goes out frequently (ie, winds, maintenance, etc.), and the system "kicks on" perfectly. I have worked with HOS twice. The first was the installation of sixteen panels and a single Testa Battery on my home in San Jose about six years ago. The installation was quickly and professionally done. The second was on my new home in Santa Rosa, which included twenty panels and two Testa Batteries. We started the paperwork March 28, '24, just before SunPower went into bankruptcy. Everything got installed, but not turned on. Had to cancel the contract with SunPower and redo contract with HOS. All that took 2 months to get connected with P G & E, but that was SunPower's mess. After we got connected, on Aug. 4, '24, it worked well with some minor problems, which were corrected. About July 15, '25, the battery stopped working. We are still waiting for service today, August 18. The panels are working and feeding lots of excess power to P G & E, but at very, very low payback rates. Without battery storage we are paying P G & E rather than earning credits toward the winter when there is less sun. read more

This is a follow up review. We've had solar for over a year now and are very pleased with the savings. I was extremely skeptical about solar savings and time to recover the initial cost, however, the math does make sense if you plan to stay in your home for more than 5 years. As electric rates continue to increase, the breakeven period may be shorter. The equipment has been working flawlessly and has reduced our electric bill to almost zero. My system hasn't generated power. For a couple of months now. Didn't notice until the first $500+ electric bill. The my came out on 7/09/24 said they'd put it priority and I've been ghosted since. I've left messages and have called several times but no one ever answers the phone. Not really sure what my option s are at this point. Update after finally getting ahold of HOS with the help of SunPower that have been excellent! They got my panel producing energy, replaced my breaker box and are currently out getting the system to communicate with the app. They are also replacing a bad panel and a bad circuit breaker. Really the only thing I'm waiting on is reimbursement for the months my panels weren't producing electricity. Once that is complete I will update the rating to reflect the way they've stepped up after a rough start. read more

I installed a system for around $50,000 back in July of 2021. For the first year or so, the system ran great. Since then, the company has gone to the crapper. The system continually crashes, and all they can say is it generates power. Unfortunately, for those of us who try to maximize what our system produces as well as maximize on our battery storage for Net Metering purposes, this is of absolutely no use. I have to reach out about every 2 weeks, at which point their systems run for about 10 days and crash again. No one you speak to can help or explain why the system crashes over and over. The company has had layoffs and restructurings and no wonder. I would go with any other reputable company at this point, Sunpower obviously does not care about their customers. read more

Two years ago I had a generator installed because we live in a very hot area and I did not want to be without air conditioning. Our air conditioners stopped turning on. The HVAC folks said it appeared to be a problem with the generator's load shedding device. I called Sunpower and got no answer. However, their online customer service did allow me to make an appointment for over three weeks out after various emails. I am unhappy I will be charged $275 for this as I don't think I should be held accountable if this is their error. I am also disappointed they are not coming sooner as this is more of an emergency situation with rising temperatures. read more

I want to be fully transparent and say when I had my system installed a little over 3 years ago I gave Hooked on Solar 5 stars. However, once Sun Power went out of business that's when the true colors of Hooked on Solar came out. I had 2 panels that weren't reading on my Sun Power app which I later found out was due to the original instillation by Hooked on Solar. The way I found this out, I was told by Hooked on Solar that it would be in my best interest to buy the Enphase monitoring system for approximately $1,000 because the Sunpower monitoring system would no longer be working. I followed their advice and purchased the Enphase monitoring system. I had the contracted license electrician of Enphase come out to replace the damaged inverters. They determined that the installation of the wiring was too tight when it was originally installed and with the changes of weather from hot to cold it broke the wiring out of the 2 inverters. The electrician took pictures and documented the findings in a report that was sent to Hooked on Solar. The 20 year warranty that was supposed to cover parts, labor, and workmanship was completely false and they have not stood by any of it. They told me that since Sun Power went out of business that if they covered all parts and labor for all their customers they would go out of business. Obviously, I was not happy with that response but I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt since I'm sure they didn't plan on Sun Power going out of business. They said all they can cover is workmanship. Well this was a workmanship problem diagnosed by a license electrician contracted by Enphase. Hooked on Solar has refused to cover any cost associated with parts, labor, or workmanship. My wife and I have attempted to get ahold of Hooked on Solar for the last 2-3 months with multiple phone calls and emails. There has been no response from our original sales rep Justin or from Alfredo who I was told would help with our case. I would highly discourage anyone from signing a contact with Hooked on Solar because they will not stand by anything they agree to. read more

Purchased a solar system after much negotiation with the salesman Michael Blaise. It is a little more than I wanted to spend, but I have heard good things about the Sunpower panel and micro inverter quality. When installation confirmation was sent there were a lot of promises made after safety during the COVID pandemic and they would be following improved guidelines when inside my house. The tech that came out to map the system was awesome and when going into the house wore a mask. Although when the installers came to put in the system they did not follow any of the guidelines promised in the COVID Guidelines Promise. When coming in my house even though I wore a mask they did not wear masks or even seem to care. Luckily my family has not gotten COVID, but I had expected companies coming into my house to follow their promises. Tried to contact Sunpower by Hooked on Solar about this and nobody seemed to care. Now I have the system installed but cannot recommend Sunpower by Hooked on Solar as an installer. REPLY to Jordyn D - That is interesting that your warehouse manager and installation team confirmed that they were wearing masks. My video camera inside the garage tells a different story. Okay, I admit. The PG&E bill for June at $250 was the last straw. Added to the fact that I looked at my usage and though I used less energy as compared to June 2017, the bill was significantly higher because the rate was higher. Yes, Hooked on Solar was more expensive than others. But the quality of the panels mattered to me. The fact that they use their own installers and don't sub-contract out the work. That when I have a problem, I call them and only them. And they have this great app that's on my phone that allows me to see how much energy my house is using as how much energy my panels are generating. So it makes sense to me to go with SunPower by Hooked on Solar. Justin in sales was great. Brianna in support is great. The installers showed up at 7am and were done by 10am. I had 10 panels installed so that will be 115% of what I've been using. read more

Dear Hooks on Solar, I have an existing Sunpower solar panel installed back in Nov or Dec 2021, which has been working well. But then, I have heard the issue of Sunpower itself filing for the bankruptcy with its company stock below $1. Should that happens, there is a disturbing rumor that current installation's warranty will get voided. When I called the main Sunpower support, they say the business is usual but cannot provide any update on the pending status. When I call your guys in this morning on Aug 5th, your phone person mentions that Sunpower will have to be removed and just remain as the Hooked on Solar. The person cannot provide anything on the current warranty status on the panel and POV Enphase. I called Mr. Nicholas Bambino and all go into the voicemail. When I purchase the panel, there is a warranty that Sunpower provides the panel but there is also separate warranty that you guys provide for the panels on the roof. At this time, my homeowner will only cover as part of dwelling, under the named peril such as weather, earthquake, hail, etc. which are unlikely but not any electrical issues or wear or tear. Introductory/Contract Period: I had a great overall experience with Hooked on Solar (hereafter "HOS"). Justin Orban assisted me throughout the process. Although I was recommended HOS by a family friend who had a good experience with them, I also shopped around some other solar providers. While I liked HOS's in-house manufacturing of parts and local connection, the defining factor that made want to go with Justin and HOS was because Justin was transparent from the start about all my financing options and and appeared very knowledgeable about the industry and product. Installation Period: The installation process was very smooth, our project coordinator and manager, Cierra and Brady, did an excellent job on setting up the installation process and making sure we knew what we needed to do. The installation crew, Oscar and his team (for panels) and Juan and his team (for battery) arrived promptly on the day of installation and did an excellent job throughout the day. They entertained my questions and explained everything thoroughly. Pricing: The pricing was slightly more than competitors in the area; however, they also offered me a payment plan that had better interest rates, more panels, and higher quality panels. I did not have the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison of different companies at the same interest rate and panel amount since competitors simply did not offer me those options. [EDITED] I purchased a system thru Hooked on Solar. I did my research on panels and system types so I knew what I needed prior to purchasing. I purchased Sunpower Panels and a Tesla Gateway / Powerwall. The workmanship and quality of the system is excellent. While there was an issue with the installation, the VP of the Company contacted me directly and came out to my home. He suggested the proper remedy and sent out a technician to correct the problem. His hands on approach to customer service went above and beyond what you typically see with other companies.
