Went with the family on our trip to ocean city. As soon as you walk in, you feel all of the Maryland crab house vibes. The smell of old bay, salty crabs, and open air feeling just slap you across the face in the best way. I ordered the snow crab legs because I personally hate picking blue crabs (I'm not originally from Maryland, haters gunna hate), but I was so happy I got to partake in the crab fun. My snow crabs were so plentiful and fun! Literally everything you want in crabs from a crab house. My husband got the triple trifecta and his quote, "definitely a good time on a plate". My kids were also a fan on their chicken tender meals. However, the real cherry on top was the dirt cup sundae in a sand bucket. It was a basic sundae, but it was so much fun for my kids that it came in a bucket. If you really want to feel liked you're at a Maryland beach vacation, this is the place to go. Went a few days before Memorial Day which is when the main facility opens. Instead we went to their sister food place called Sneaky Pete's. Unfortunately it wasn't good and we are unsure if it's a reflection of Hoopers or the brand itself. Food was very bland and most of it was not cooked correctly. Hoopers Crab House in Ocean City, Maryland is no doubt our Fav when we are in the O.C. Why the one "1" Star?Because what transpired yesterday Wed. June,24, 2026 at approx 4:45pm when my wife, son and I went to Hooper's for our 44th wedding anniversary dinner. We were immediately sat at a nice booth with a great view. And, we sat, and we sat. Servers passed us by. And passed us by. NO "someone will be with you." NO place settings. NO water. "Marla" a server explained that was not her table, and questioned WHY the hostess would seat us at that table. Later we began to question why would the hostess sit us at that table when it became apparent that the server for that table had not arrived to work as yet (?) ...didn't the hostess know? And why didn't either Marla or the other servers chip in or provide teamwork or at least attend to our table at a minimum for the sake of the customers or the Hooper's mission statement, or assist the "new" server? We were also waiting and wondering why we were initially treated dismissively was a BIG turnoff!! (Oops, did I tell you we are a Black-American family...We know Hooper's is better than this!) 5-Stars!!!!!Our server "Sophia" she was very apologetic and sweet in explaining her late arrival. She was a recent hire. Sophia was very attentive to us and very nice. The food was excellent!... Ribeye Steak, Pork Chop, Seafood Platter, Fried Green Tomatoes, Watermelon Feta Salad, and our drinks flowed. Sophia seemed to have a problem with the drinks new billing concept.. May have a miscal on the bill. Overall, Hooper's Crab House is a 5-Star place. Sophia provided us 5-Star service. We'll be back, and hopefully NOT experience what we experienced this. The food at Hooper's in Ocean City was fine, but this review is entirely about the service -- specifically our server, Gracen F. -- which was, without exaggeration, the worst service I have ever experienced. We came in as a party of four and sat down ready for a good meal. Grayson came over after a long wait and we placed our drink and appetizer orders right away: waters, three cocktails, and a pound of steamed shrimp to start. Simple enough. Thirty minutes later, we had only two waters, a beer, and one cocktail. That's it. My drink didn't arrive until 45 minutes after we sat down. That should have been the first sign of how the evening was going to go. When we ordered, we made it clear: appetizer first, then entrées. After the delayed drinks, we ordered our main courses. Instead of shrimp, the first thing that came out was... a side of corn. Just a random side dish, dropped at the table with nothing else, no explanation, no drinks, no appetizer. When the shrimp finally arrived, the entrées immediately followed -- but they didn't even come out together. They came out one by one. By the time my meal showed up, one of my friends had already finished theirs. The pacing was an absolute disaster, and to make it worse, Gracen never once checked in on us. She never asked if things were correct, never asked if we needed anything, and never acknowledged the mistakes. One of the items that came out was wrong, and she looked completely lost -- almost as if she didn't even know what was on the menu. Instead of trying to fix the situation, she just avoided the table. After the food mess, we sat for another 20 minutes waiting for the check. There was a POS system right next to her station, so it wasn't like she didn't have the tools to speed things up -- she just didn't bother. She was disengaged, inattentive, and frankly not nice throughout the entire evening. We ended up with a bill of over $200. Despite everything, we still tipped her over 20% because we work in the industry and we understand what it's like. But this? This was beyond just being busy or having an off night. This was careless, unprofessional service that completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable night out. I truly cannot understand how Gracen F. is employed here. One server's lack of effort and organization took what could have been a great experience and turned it into one of the most frustrating, disappointing restaurant visits I've ever had. read more

I feel like my family and I were scammed out of more than $1,000. On May 28, my family and I were on a trip to Ocean City and stopped by this restaurant because we love seafood. At first, we ordered one dozen jumbo blue crabs with no seasoning because my parents have high blood pressure and cannot eat food that is too salty. The crabs came out exactly as ordered and were tasty. Then we wanted to order more to eat and take some home. This is where the story starts. Since our first order came with no seasoning, we obviously expected the next order to be the same. I ordered half a dozen jumbo crabs to eat at the restaurant and three more dozen jumbo crabs to go, all JUMBO SIZE and again with no seasoning. In total, we ordered 4.5 dozen crabs plus two appetizers. For a party of six, the bill was over $1,000 including tip. However, the half dozen we were eating at the restaurant came out covered in seasoning. When I spoke to the server, he told me the crabs had been steamed together with other orders and that there wasn't much seasoning on them. While I was eating those crabs, they brought out the three dozen crabs for takeout. I checked them and, guess what? Every single one was covered in seasoning. I told the server again that my parents have high blood pressure and could not eat them. He said they would fix it, and I thanked him because I appreciated them trying to correct the mistake. A few minutes later, they brought the crabs back after washing them. When we got home, we were shocked. Many of the crabs smelled bad, some appeared dead, and the order was mixed with much smaller crabs instead of all jumbo crabs like we paid for. Only some of the disguise small size crabs in jumbo size cover were edible. At that point, I started to understand why they kept putting seasoning on the second order and claimed it was a mistake. Looking back now, it feels like they did it on purpose to hide the smell and condition of the dead crabs. After spending more than $1,000, this experience was extremely disappointing. My family and I left feeling misled, frustrated, and taken advantage of. We will never come back. read more

This is the place to go!! I love crabs and their $55 AYCE is not like any other. Huge place and inside or outside seating. Pretty busy place and they easily accommodate large parties. We were here for my wife's birthday and she doesn't eat seafood. She chose the place with their non-fish options. The all you can eat come with crabs, fried CHICKEN, hushpuppies, shrimp, and corn. You can keep any of them coming. I just wanted more crabs. They came about 4/refill hot and with the seasoning on the side... you can dip and choose your own flavor adventure. EXCELLENT! Wifey got the chicken meal. Well seasoned but the thigh was undercooked-- bloody undercooked. She told server but was not interested in reorder. Bloody chicken aside, I'd return. I have been here several times over the past few years. Full disclosure I thought I had written a review but I suppose I just post pictures. More recently, I stopped here after shooting a video on the island. This place is usually a bee hive but up until this trip I've never struggled to find a table. We put our name in and waited 15min for a table of two. We were sat out back on the deck in a booth. The inside is very dark and loud - but that's not a bad thing. There are plenty of seating options including Sneaky Pete's area out back as well. I ordered the cream of crab cake to start - soups with a mini cake in it. The soup was a little on the goopy side - kind of like a cream coup when you pour it out of a can before heating. Taste was good though - would recommend. For my entree I ordered the coconut fish tacos. Comes with three and they were filled with pico and corn and sauce - the pieces of fish were the size of chicken tenders. I rarely order this but was happy with my choice. I have also ordered coconut shrimp, crab pretzel, crab and cob AYCE, etc Our most recent waiter Alexus - was good as he handled a table of 17 and us. We had an AWESOME evening at Hopoers. Walked in on a Wednesday afternoon. There was a bit of a line out the door, but the greeter was working fast and got us seated quickly. The place is ENORMOUS! Because of the constant in and out, they don't have AC, just fans. It's also definitely kitschy We ordered an Orange Crush, a Grapefruit Crush, and the AYCE crab feast. I don't know if we just caught them on a good day, but the crabs were some of the BEST we've ever had! Heavy, thick, and meaty! The fried chicken was also AMAZING, you could be satisfied with just a meal of that. Crushes were fantastic. The place does get busy during the week, but that's because it's iconic. Food is good. The crabby pretzel js good, decent flavor. The clams casino sub par, wouldn't get again. The steamed shrimp were decent could have used more seasoning but cooked well. We greeted right away & taken to outdoor seating. Waitress was so nice & attentive. Ordered all u can eat & broiled seafood dish. All you can eat was worth it with a lot of variety. You can reorder 1 or as many of the items for refill. GREAT VALUE. The broil seafood dish was a little tasteless. It also taste like it was frozen seafood. I should have ordered fried instead of broiled. The drinks were strong & a nice size for $12. Everyone seems to be enjoying the crabs. They were streamed a lot & the meat stuck to the shell. I don't know what her wack ass name was but she was really horrible she had zero personality, she was out right rude, she wasn't educated, simply didn't care about the service she was giving because of their 20% gratuity policy. Coming from a table where three people work in the restaurant industry she should be embarrassed. I hope she enjoy the 200 dollar tip she received when it was not deserved one bit. We have been here several times. The food is always great and until last night service has been decent. Our server last night was awful, definitely needs more training and people skills. We were a party of 8. He would not make separate checks. When receiving appetizers he only brought 4 plates no silverware, we ended up needing to ask for what was needed. All entrees were brought with the exception of one. We brought to his attention, no apologies, he said he would check on it. He never returned with explanation. He only returned to collect plates when everyone finished eating. Reminded him that one still did not receive his meal, again he said I will check. He never returned. At this point I addressed with the manager. The last entree was then delivered. Of course we all sat while he finished his meal. Thankfully he was not charged. Disgusted that this server received a 20% tip for a party of 8 and did not earn it. When I vacation I am not concerned about the cost of meals and gladly tip accordingly. When service is this bad, the manager also should take the automatic tip away as well. Hoopers, do better training and hiring. Not everyone is cut out to be a server. read more

(August 2025) For years as we've driven to and from Ocean City, my wife and I would see Hooper's parking lot full and a crowd of people waiting outside to be seated. On this trip, we've finally made it in to see for ourselves what the hubbub is all about. First, I was glad we brought our stadium cups from our lunch (the day before) at Sneaky Pete's. With them, we got free unsweetened ice tea. Here, it's actually pretty good. For dinner, I ordered the crab cake platter ($40), which came with two crab cakes, green beans, and mashed potatoes. My wife ordered the crab and avocado salad ($28), but asked for no bacon. Our dinners were amazing, with the only exception being my wife's sun-dried tomatoes were frozen. You can see the freezer burn on a couple of them. It's unfortunate there's not a crab cake platter that only has one crab cake because that's what my wife would have ordered otherwise. We both agree these are some of the best crab cakes in Ocean City! We hope to be back on our next trip. read more

We stopped in at Hooper's Crab House around 4:00 PM, right before the big evening rush--and thank God we did! By the time we left, the place was absolutely slammed with people waiting outside. Word to the wise: show up early! Crabs were HUGE and packed full of meat. They were heavy, flavorful, and honestly some of the best we've had in Ocean City. The crab cake I ordered as an add-on was excellent--full of meat with barely any filler. My wife had the cream of crab soup with a mini crab cake. The soup was rich and satisfying, but that mini crab cake was a bit of a letdown--definitely not the same one I had, and it had quite a bit of filler. Still tasted good, just not on the same level. We also had the hush puppies (really good), and the kids devoured their crabby pretzel and lobster mac & cheese. Not a crumb left--so that's a win. The place is huge. I was concerned walking in because a big group went in ahead of us, but the staff handled it efficiently. Everyone was seated quickly, and it never felt overcrowded. We sat outside, and the atmosphere was perfect--great breeze, waterfront view, and a laid-back Eastern Shore vibe. Overall, Hooper's is a must-stop if you're heading into Ocean City. Hoopers is a go to every year my family and I go to OCMD. The seafood is an amazing selection and offers something for everyone. The one think that was hard this year is we sat in "the pit" as my nephew called it and it was hot. They had fans going but it wasn't enough. We were all sweating through our clothes. I had to stop eating bc I got so hot I got dizzy and nauseous. It was the one and only negative item in the 5 years we've gone and I don't know how they solve for it. It won't keep me from going back but it did feel like I tossed my money away on the crab legs. Our server was great! She brought me ice when I requested it and dealt with a water spill early on. She was friendly and made us feel welcome! Other than the heat, hoopers is family oriented so be prepared for noise, kids, and crab pounding. Highly recommend. The crabs were very watery, like they boiled them instead of steaming them. The shrimp had little to no seasoning. I do admit the fried chicken was very good, but they are a crab house, not a chicken house so you would think their main menu item would be incredible. They brought the crabs out hot and a few of them were so soggy the meat just smushed up when trying to pick it out. They got a little better to pick as they cooled down, but the taste was just not there. I think I heard our server tell another customer that it was their season opening so maybe they weren't up to snuff, but I really wish I would have picked another establishment to get our crabs! Our bill came to $180 with the tip and that included 2 all you can eat meals and 2 cocktail drinks...we left upwards of 20% tip because it wasn't the servers fault that the food was sub-par.
