On 5/14 around 6pm, I was driving down 19 behind one of Hooten's service trucks and trailers when a large PVC pipe fell off the trailer while traveling 70 mph. The pipe was extremely long, began spinning through the air, and came directly toward my vehicle. I had to slam on my breaks and move onto the shoulder to avoid a more serious collision. What is most concerning about this is that the driver never appeared to notice and did not stop. This situation could have ended much worse, especially if traffic had been heavier or another driver was unable to react in time. - I strongly encourage this company to ensure all materials and equipment are properly secured before getting on public roads. Something as preventable as an unsecured load can very easily become dangerous for other drivers on the road. read more

We have been trying to get Hooton's out to our lake house on Lake Fork for a week. Each time the receptionist tells us some one will contact us about setting a time to come out. Never a word. We have called them approx 4 times and have not heard a word back. They are still in business as they answer the phone but really aren't. If they can't even reply back that they are covered up or what ever the case may be, then it is doubtful thay can be relied upon to do a good job. Worst I've seen. read more

,Home Owners & Builders BUYER BEWARE: After three years of spending thousands of dollars with "Hooten landscaping" on both landscaping and an irrigation system, and questionable service during almost every step of the way, I can not even get a sprinkler head replaced after 2 weeks and 5 phone calls. In fact, I apparently can't even get on the list to get serviced after all that time and effort. The employees at the Emory Hootens Landscaping location have been professional and helpful and my guess would be they are embarrassed and frustrated over these type customer service issues as well, but unfortunately they don't make the decisions or run the crew. For whatever it's worth my advice to any east Texas home owner or builder for that matter would be unless your willing or want to learn how to perform any followup service needed after the initial installation, you may want to look elsewhere. I'll soon be getting bids to build a new home in east Texas and will refuse to deal with any builders who even suggest using this company read more

We hired this business to maintain our yard. They showed up the first time on April 9. The lawn didn't look great - in the corners of the yard the grass was sheared off all the way to the dirt, and the grass was uneven in other parts of the yard. There was grass all over the patios, furniture, and sidewalks. After two weeks had passed with no word from them, I called Tim to see what kind of schedule we were on - weekly, biweekly, etc. He said we were on a weekly schedule, but the rain had prevented them from mowing. He said we were scheduled for that day, April 23. They finally showed up on April 26. Our grass looked horrific. Again, the corners were mowed bare. There were strips of grass that were 2-3 inches taller than the rest of the grass around it. It looked like a bad haircut. It had rained recently, so the grass was wet. They left large wads of wet grass clippings all over the lawn - the sod that we had also paid him to install. By the time we were able to rake it up, the grass underneath it had already begun to turn yellow. And again, there was grass all over the patios, furniture, and sidewalks. I called Tim. I asked about the wet grass left on the lawn. All he would say was that the grass was wet and what did I want him to do. I asked him if removing the grass clippings was a service he provided or if it was something we needed to do ourselves. At this point he became very irate. I stated that this was the first time we had hired a lawn maintenance service and asked him to help me understand what our expectations should be. He said he didn't think he could "make me happy" and I needed to find someone else. Then he hung up on me. Needless to say we will happily find a new lawn service. Unfortunately, we also hired them to install a retaining wall in February. Some of the dirt has washed away leaving holes by the retaining bricks and a sunken spot under the sod. We called him to fix these issues a few weeks later. Tim said he would be out within the week. He did not show up again until we asked him to give us a bid on some other work we needed done. I'd be very surprised if he ever comes to fix these issues. read more

Be careful. This company has some nice people but if you have a large job, as we did, do NOT rely on the bid as the final cost - or even the invoices left with me on the day of install. The owner made many substitutions of plants which he did not "ask" if we were ok with, he just showed up with them & told us they would be fine. He is a big guy & got angry with me (female) on 3 occasions but did not exhibit the attitude with my husband. Note: Have your husband deal with him. I had a landscape design professionally drawn for us which incorporated drought tolerant plants with an emphasis of red, a few white & purple. I have 1 plant type with red, no purple and very little white, but lots of pink (which I hate) - he even changed out the types of plants/trees. The bid was to include mulch for all the beds - be sure to ask it this is just a scattering of the actual amount needed, 3-4" of mulch for beds planted in May going into the Summer. I paid for some additional mulch after the 2nd day of install but ended up needing $1300 more of mulch - I had less than 1" in the beds when they left. Owner also told me he only needed 1 load of top soil - so far I have been charged for 3 and he wants to continue to revise the bill after the job is completed. I also had to call & pay to have the stone & gravel delivered the day of install - but he did not want to deduct anything from his bill which was to include delivery of all materials. Does ok work, but his work ethic & maturity have room for improvement. He is now threatening to put a LIEN on my property because I want him to address the questions I have had about the top soil deliveries, the fact my husband had to re-work over 50% of the drip line irrigation, and replacement of numerous plants that died. He has been paid in excess of the amount bid, we have not held out anything that was included in the bid, in fact, we even had to go pick up some of the plants from the nursery & some we have had to plant ourselves just to finish the job. If you can find someone else, I would keep looking, especially, if you are not a "do-it-yourself" kind of person. read more

We had a sprinkler system and new lawn installed. It was about an acre and a half area. They did an amazing job. A few months later it looks like we live on a golf course. The price was reasonable as I did extensive research. They arrived to work as scheduled and completed it in a couple days. They even did some extra work at no charge. Very professional and friendly to both myself and my husband. We highly recommend them. read more
