I sent a text message and an email message asking the Executive Director to confirm that she received the donation. No reply. Today is February 26 and the check has not cleared my bank. I made the donation because of the many media reports about what ViVe Wellness was doing for the migrants. The organization is not listed in Charity Navigator, which is the resource I typically use when contributing to a nonprofit with which I have no previous experience. I love SWIC! It's in the same building as the Westwood Branch Library. They have some great…read moreprograms for families and seniors in the area. The offer free lunch to seniors Monday-Friday at 11:30am. They also have food box distribution Friday mornings from 8am-12pm for $1 donation (the food boxes contain $20-$30 worth of food). They also have a free little exercise room right near the gymnasium (some cardio & weightlifting equipment). My favorite service they provide is the FREE ZUMBA CLASSES!!! Classes are Monday-Friday from 9ish am -10ish am (I add the "ish" part because they usually start anywhere from 9:10-9:20 and the class lasts about an hour). Not only are the classes free of charge, they let me bring my kids too (1 year old & 2 year old)! It's not always easy as a mom to find a fitness class that doesn't mind if your kids run around the gym while you work out, so this is a nice little perk, and my kids have made some new friends :) I'm so thankful for SWIC and all the valuable services they provide to my community! Nice space with a great permanent collection of photographs as well as temporary exhibits. They also offer workshops, classes, darkroom and membership. No fee to see the photographs. We are feeding the greater Denver's poor and THAT is something to feel good about ... show up, get to work, enjoy the hard work while knowing you are doing a ton of good. Stay as long as you can then go home feeling satisfied and spent. Thanksgiving is always better when one has plenty of be thankful for in one's own life while spreading some joy to others that live here locally. This gallery/studio space is tucked into an odd corner of the Flight (BOA) building on the Taxi…read morecampus. It is part of the ArtLab program at the PlatteForum nonprofit where professional artists work with youth interns on arts and civic engagement projects, culminating in public exhibitions. This location provides the studio space for the current Artist In Residence (A.I.R.) and space for the interns who work with that person. There is also a gallery space. PlatteForum hosts periodic art shows here in addition to the gallery at its headquarters. PlatteForum is a very worthy organization that provides a safe space for disadvantaged youth to express themselves with resources, career, and development opportunities. The internships are paid so there is no barrier to participation. Groceries, therapy, and tutoring are provided if needed plus all arts and technology supplies. Forty to fifty high school students participate for one to four years. The core program is the opportunity to collaborate with the professional artist in residence, but PlatteForum provides many other avenues to positive development including initiatives led by the participants, wellness workshops, career training, new experiences, and long-term mentorship.
