Schmitz Park Elementary is a special school that will be in my heart for every. I enjoyed this…read moreschool a lot. I also enjoyed the gym class time while going to Schmitz Park. I learned some many cool activities while there. I learned how to ride the unicycle while in Kindergarten, rode the 6" unicycle in the end part of second grade, handstands, jump rope, pulls ups. And because I learned how to do all those things, we had a show called the Ice Cream social. Family and friends would come to watch us perform for them. Great memories while going there for school.

We were SO EXCITED to find this school! Infant massage, yoga, a great campus, delicious meals from…read morea chef... the list went on and on. Things aren't always what they seem though. Our child was there just a bit over a year and had 13 different teachers. One left during her shift and never came back, many others assured us they would be sticking around but then dropped like flies. The entire school seems to be a revolving door of staff which is never a good sign. Promises kept changing as they upped the number of kids in the rooms but continued to brag about how fantastic their ratios were. Sure they added teachers to the rooms but then teachers kept quitting and were complaining about not having proper breaks and staffing. There were ongoing requests to donate money and supplies to the classrooms - maybe it would have made sense to just increase the tuition by 10 or 20 bucks a month- I'm happy not to have to deal with this at our new daycare. Our journey ended when it became apparent that the children weren't being properly supervised and due to a safety issue we had to make a complaint to childcare licensing. The director then decided to send out updates about our complaint in emails and in Facebook posts where other staff and parents were allowed to mock the situation. Very unprofessional especially considering that the state department of licensing was in the process of citing them for lack of appropriate supervision. Licensing also helped deal with the issue of the staff not having kids regularly wash their hands (like when they came in from outside to eat meals). I feel for some of the teachers who were good but couldn't stick around. The idea behind this school is great and it would be awesome if well executed and managed.

We had high expectations of this school. The facilities and food program are great, and many of the…read moreteachers are awesome. However, the management was not consistent and had a lot of knee-jerk reactions to situations which affected our child's well being. They were very inconsistent with what they promised versus what was delivered. They claim to be child-led in philosophy, but the decisions made didn't seem to have the children's best interest in mind, rather, what was best for the administration and school seemed to be prioritized. Additionally, they were terrible at dealing with issues that arose with parents. Myself and several other parents I knew at the school were consistently told "well, group care isn't for everyone" or "that's why some people decide to hire a nanny" EVERY SINGLE TIME there was an issue--big or small. This led to fearing we were being told to leave the school. After leaving and seeing how other facilities operate and handle issues with parents, I am very glad we made the decision to leave.

We can't say enough good things about this place. Both of our kids have gone here, and it's by far…read morethe best daycare and school we've ever experienced. Every teacher and staff member is kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in the kids. Our son has severe food allergies, and we're literally trusting them with his life--and we completely trust them. They've gone above and beyond to keep him safe while still making him feel fully included. He absolutely loves it. He's made so many friends, and we've seen him grow more confident, curious, and happy every day. But what makes this place truly special is that it's more than just a school. Through it, we've built a real community of parents and friends that has become a lasting part of our lives. The care, connection, and sense of belonging here extend far beyond the classroom.

We made a lot of great parent friendships as well. Ms. Judith, Kathleen, and Debra in PS, PK, and 1st grade were absolutely awesome and did an amazing job with our boys. The school also has great financial resources with very generous families supporting continued investment in the physical plant and new programs. One thing we wished were different might have been the level of competition between the kids to be first or best at everything and the impact that started to have on our oldest (who was beginning to only want to pursue things where he could be #1). I don't think the school encourages that (on the contrary, I think they encourage all the kids to always try) but it could be the natural dynamic of any school that only has gifted children. Some of our friends' kids also encountered challenges around bullying; it wasn't rampant though and could have been the reality of how kids interact at that age. On a related note, our biggest advice is to be aware of the sibling admissions policy. Our youngest was admitted to and attended Evergreen PS or PK and was doing great according to all the teacher evaluations. However, after two tests, his top IQ score was in the 90th percentile and as such was short of the 95th percentile cutoff. We were then told he could not continue to Kindergarten (even though the PK teacher strongly recommended he advance to Kindergarten). It made for a really stressful and emotional year for us and while we respect the School's right to set these kinds of policies, it seemed at odds with the values of community, inclusion, and social and emotional intelligence -- especially since the testing data was very inconsistent and in the gray area.

We came from Co-op preschool so I really wanted to look for a place that offered parents more involvement. It's great to have a sense of belonging as a parent, we get to know the other parents really well. The staff welcomed us and they were very caring for our child who had just been traumatized. The staff enthusiastically gave him the loving, and nurturing care that he deserved and this helped him heal and grow. Our son thrived in this positive environment and was soo empowered by his experience that he decided to pursue early on his career as a professional cyclist. Our experience was that the management of this center doesn't feel the need to inform families of horrifying events involving their children and is content to tolerate poor conduct by their staff. I encourage any prospective families to look into the licensing history of their other centers. My only intention in posting this review is to genuinely try to spare any other families from experiencing what we did at their center.

The Gani Preschool of the Arts is a wonderful school. Unbelievably given the location of the preschool there was a child named Aryan (which is never an…read moreacceptable name given the political association) in my child's class. The lead from the sponsoring college introduced him to the class one day as quote " our friend Aryan". Not surprisingly, we had issues such as a parent putting her hands on and interacting with my child in a way I felt was inappropriate. We dropped out of the class and canceled our enrollment for next year. Class is/was having issues keeping students as other families have left as well.
