My elderly dog had surgery in May to remove a large tumor. Dr. Glogau, Millie's vet and surgeon is wonderful. She is very experienced and has provided excellent medical guidance and care for my dog and is giving me strong support as I help my dog recover. Dr. Glogau has reached out to me to see how my dog is doing, is helping me arrange care for my dog while I have to be away for several days, and she is never too busy to answer my questions. We've been taking our pets to Hopewell Veterinary Group for about 30 years. They've always taken such great care of our pets and are genuinely interested in their health and well being. They're nothing short of fantastic. We've always felt confident bringing them there. When our black Labrador pitbull mix was in the final stages of his life, Dr. Sherwood was so understanding and so kind to our good boy. Dr. Hostetter also saw our Maltese Buddy when he was suffering from heart failure, and gave him several more years of quality life due to his comprehensive and compassionate approach. The most outstanding veterinary group you will ever come across. They haven't taken new patients in years because they have so many loyal patients already! My miniature dachshund, Lucy, is a frequent patient here of Dr. Greco (sometimes weekly for blood tests due to her IMHA condition). I have to say with extreme confidence that Dr. Greco is the best vet I have ever met in my entire life, and my parents both agree. He is not only friendly and kind, and always smiling, he is so knowledgeable. He has found and figured things out that no other vet could. The list goes on, but he has treated Lucy for the following: stroke which caused her to go deaf, concussion from stroke, autoimmune disorder of the eye which he referred her to a wonderful canine ophthalmologist; treating her after eye surgery; treating her very serious Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) disorder; pneumonia; and more recently seizures. Dr. Greco's knowledge knows no end when it comes to treating Lucy. She has had so many crazy medical issues and he has greeted each one with appropriate treatment and kindness. I put my full trust in Dr. Greco. I can't tell you how much he puts me at ease when I bring Lucy in and he explains everything to me. He will even draw things out so it makes more sense to us non-vet pet owners. Also, Lucy does not like men. She growls and snarls at them and would fight to come into the vet in the past before Dr. Greco. Now, she loves going to the vet and she LOVES Dr. Greco. I am not exaggerating when I say that he can sit there holding Lucy while explaining her lab results to us, and she just comfortably stays in his arms as she does with us. She wags her tail around him and isn't nervous at all. She walks right into the vet and when she sees him greet us in the waiting area so he can bring us back, she happily goes. It is a MIRACLE! This is a dog who used to plant her feet and refuse to go with any vet. She loves Dr. Greco and he loves her. You can tell he cares about each and every one of his patients. I bring my little Lilly here when I'm visiting my parents in New Jersey. Oliver used to work on my dad's horses and is incredibly skilled in handing all types of small and large animals. His wife Karen is also a veterinarian who works closer to Trenton doing very complicated surgeries on animals. What an incredible animal loving family of doctors! Ask for Oliver when you come in. Would not recommend Dr Christopher Greco. Terrible bedside manner, condescending and reprimands his patients. We arrived 13 minutes late to our appointment. The receptionist let us know that we would have to wait a few minutes as they were behind and we had missed our scheduled appointment. To which, we said we completely understood. We waited from 9:13 AM to 11:45 AM. During this time, the same lovely receptionist kept telling us it would be another 10 or so minutes and that we would be next. She also made sure to profusely apologize as she understood the wait was becoming excessive and assured us we would be next. During this time, countless customers came in and out of the vet office, many of them stating they were late for their appointment. Around 11:20 AM the receptionist asked us if we would prefer a different vet as then we could most likely be seen sooner. We were under the impression we were seeing our regular doctor, Ray Hostetter. Being as though we knew our doctor had a history with our dog, we said we would stay. A nurse/vet tech came out to fill out paperwork as to why we were there about 10 minutes prior to us being called in, the time was now 11:35 AM. We told her that we wanted to do a general check up and just possibly get his assistance with another matter. This nurse/vet asked more questions about our dog than the actual DR did. After 10 minutes had passed, a different nurse/vet called us into the room. Dr. Christopher Greco entered the room very aggressively and obviously in a rush. He did not even give us the chance to discuss our concerns with our dog before he said he could not assist us and that seemed to be the end of the conversation. He didn't seem to want to conduct a general check up, not even asking us about the health of our dog. It truly seems as though he was mad that we were potentially infringing on his lunch time and used that as an excuse to discontinue the visit as soon as he saw the opportunity to do so. His body language was standoffish and harsh, it was obvious he considered us a burden to his time. I would like to note that Christopher Greco was not our usual doctor, otherwise his demeanor would not have shocked us to the point of acting out of character. His body language showed he did not even want to be in the room with us. We explained to him our frustration for the wait and result of his decision not to conduct a general check up, to which he reprimanded us for not being on time. I asked why we could not have been informed of this prior to waiting 2 hours. Again, he blamed our lateness and said that he had to wait until he got through all his morning patients before he could see us. We told him we understood we were late and that the waiting was not the issue, it was the fact we essentially waited for nothing and our concerns weren't being addressed. To which Christopher Greco frustratingly sighed and said "Fine. I can do the check up". He started to examine our dog while also telling us that he could not believe the way people in this world are and how he is always 15 minutes early for his appointments. This entire situation caused undue stress and anxiety for us and our dog. And in the moment of complete exhaustion and frustration, I made a sarcastic remark by responding that was good for him. He flared his arms in the air and angrily walked out the door saying "That's it, you burned your bridge here". He told us he would not be serving us or finishing the check up. We are not proud of our reaction to this situation as we should've handled the situation better on our end and not fed into his condescending manner. Reprimanding a patient after they already waited over 2 hours and addressing none of their concerns is not professional, nor is it okay for a patient to endure in an appointment. We have never experienced such a doctor who would reprimand his patients throughout the appointment. If you are the owner of this establishment, I highly implore you to contact us. They've Saved our Cat! HVP has been taking care of our pets and horse for years (20+). These guys have always provided thorough, knowledgable, sensible, sensitive care. I have been going to Hopewell Vet for over 30 years. My sister has gone to them for 40 years. They have about 8 vets. It started with Amos Stultz who lived to 101. His son, Dr. Bud Stultz is now in charge. They have been treating my 5 horses thru the years and my dogs. I know many people who are extremely satisfied with these vets. They are dedicated, devoted and do not order unnecessary procedures, for example unnecessary blood work and/or xrays. They give great advice. They are reasonable with their fees. I have been to other vets when travelling and their prices are off the wall. They run up charges unnecessarily, especially by ordering all kinds of extras. These vets take it one step at a time. They are on call 24/7. When required for special care, they refer you to top surgeons and/or oncologists, internists, etc. They are the best! Hopewell vet is a throwback to when competent honest service was number one. This is not a frilly overly solicitous veterinarian for the stars. Although we have had a good experience for years with the entire staff, Possibly the professional and experienced dr. Glogau best represents this extraordinary resource for us pet lovers. Our usually frisky spunky and altogether adorable pup suffered a sudden and dramatic paralysis of his hind quarters. And he is not quite five years old. To say we were distressed would be an understatement. Immediately we rushed him over to dr. Glogau. She assessed his condition as a back disc hemorrhage. There is no fake sympathy no sugar coating with her. She insisted that we waste no time getting him to a vet surgeon she recommended near Philadelphia. She advised us that he would need surgery as soon as possible since any delay would lessen his chance of recovery. As we flew out the door I turned to her and asked what we owed. Her response was to virtually physically push me out the door. The dog is number one and payment an afterthought. After the surgical procedure as you might expect he was still paralyzed. Here's where it gets better. Although not really set up as a rehab hospital dr Glogou still took him in for three weeks and provided her own improvised water therapy. She even came in to look in on our doggy on her time off. Cutting to the chase doggy is now back home and making extraordinary progress. We have to restrain him from his usual antics while he continues his full recovery. We feel we owe this happy result to dr Glogau. She is not concerned about being your friend. She isn't trying to wring out every possible fee. Her motivation is for the well being of her animal patients. She is not going to waste time and energy on superficial niceties. As caring and extraordinarily capable she is we must mention the whole staff. Amanda and Bryn especially took wonderful care of our doggy. these girls exude real concern for their patients. And in dr. Glogau's absence the other docs took an interest as though he was their patient. In short. There is a reason why this practice is so popular. Starting with dr. I can't thank Dr. Hostetter & Dr. Stults at Hopewell Veterinary Group for their above and beyond treatment of our kitty Hermione. We had a mystery on our hands as she was having trouble breathing. We had taken her to another clinic who couldn't really find anything wrong with her. We then took her to Hopewell and they also couldn't really find anything wrong so we tried a second round of antibiotics. Hermione was getting worse and so we put a call into the Hopewell to make another appointment and to our utter amazement, Dr. Stults called us right back and spoke to us on the phone for over 20 minutes. He then got a medicine ready for us to pick up with detailed instructions on what to do. It was truly a mystery but her it is a week later, and our beloved kitty appears to be back to 100% perfect health. I very much like their philosophy which balances costs, benefits and the possible distress to the animal in a way that is thoughtful and compassionate. To some people, that may feel like under-treatment, but their "take it easy" minimalist approach neither busts your budget nor does it require a lot of running around. Unlike people, pets don't demand more treatment and more medicine as proof of good care! The Hopewell vets only do what is truly necessary, so you can trust them when they recommend something. In addition to their no-nonsense, no-frills approach, their fees are very reasonable and the twice daily open hours are a blessing for anyone with a busy schedule. Each vet in the practice has a different manner, some more gentle and others more efficient, but all of them share the same philosophy and all are very competent. A number of times when there's been some concern about my dog, the vet will immediately call on another for his/her opinion. They work very collegially together. All of them clearly respect each other and want to do their best for the animals! What more could you ask for from a veterinary group? Dr. Smith is my favorite for his kindness. Dr. Glogau is the most direct and straightforward - no BS. Dr. Rich is an absolute HOOT and her personal story about how she became a vet is great! Ask her. Not a bad vet in the group! I have taken my dog to this vet group for the past six months. She is a puppy and has been in for an allergic reaction, a minor skin infection, and spaying, but she has not had any serious medical complications treated at this clinic. So, my review here applies only to the experiences I have had with fairly routine visits; I can't comment on how the staff performs during emergencies, in risky surgeries, or when boarding pets. As a whole, the vet staff seems knowledgeable and efficient. However, they are not "hand holders" -- if you have questions or are concerned about something, you have to ask them. Otherwise, the docs are going to treat your pet and go about their business assuming you know what to do when you get home. Understand that they are good with the animals, but they have a busy practice and the norm is to quickly diagnose, treat, and release pets if the issue is at all routine. This orientation yields two major benefits to customers. First, because the consultations are short, the bills here are lower than what I have paid at other clinics. Second, if you time your visit correctly or have an appointment, you can be in and out VERY quickly. I have had a couple visits that lasted less than 15 minutes; you generally have very short waits to see one of the docs. Regarding the rest of the staff, in addition to their normal duties, the vet technicians are also responsible for billing, administration, and receptionist duties. You definitely get the feeling that many of them did not go into this line of work for the customer service component. Most are reasonably friendly, but they oftentimes seem overwhelmed and burnt out, and some can be quite snappy if you catch them on the wrong day. Fortunately, you don't have to interact much with them aside from checking in and paying your bill, but calling to make an appointment or ask a question can become an exercise in restraint. So, in sum, upsides would be reasonable fees and short waits, downsides would be poor "bedside manner" and a sometimes-grouchy staff. This might not be the vet for you if you need a lot of reassurance and explanation when your pet is sick, but otherwise I think they do a good job with the fundamentals of keeping pets healthy. read more

The only good vet is Dr. Holfsteadler, The rest of them should just retire already! This practice practices old techniques and has not changed one thing since opening. Moved to central NJ from out of state recently. We have a 7 yr old dog and a new kitten. We live in Princeton and as such went to a closer vet in Kingston. While the service was fine, the price for service was outrageous at the Kingston vet. A colleague told me about Hpwl Pngtn vet. A longer drive, 20 min away, was extremely worth it. The price of service was 1/3 of the other office. The professionalism and knowledge of the doctor top notch. The staff was efficient and the vet didn't push an unnecessary testing or analytical work. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was bc the office itself was a bit antiquated, circa 1970's, with lots of linoleum and wood paneling but I didn't come for aesthetics. I wholeheartedly recommend this veterinarian office for its scientific knowledge, quality of service and price. read more

Hopewell Veterinary Group is a first rate practice. As a cat breeder, it has been important to me to have a veterinary staff that is knowledgeable, competent, and willing to work with me in emergencies, which do happen, especially with reproductive issues. There are six veterinarians on staff, all of whom are highly competent. Also, because I do significant reading in the literature, they work with me and do not treat me like an anathema nor an idiot, as some vets will do. I have also found them to be excellent with new pet owners, and explain things carefully to them. I have recommended them to pet buyers, as well as colleagues. They offer a careful, conservative approach to animal care, which I find very good. They do not rush into expensive treatments... many of which are unnecessary, and cost the earth. When faced with complex issues that require specialist care, they willingly refer you to one of several practices, either in New Jersey or Pennsylvania, that offer these specific required services. A few years ago, they purchased a digital x-ray, far superior to what they previously had. As diagnosticians, I find that they are very sound, and they try to contain costs for an owner, not overcharging in the least for the services they perform, and often with reduced rates on follow-up visits for a specific illness/treatment. If you are someone who is only impressed by expensive practices with fancy surroundings, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for first-rate care for your pet, I recommend them unhesitatingly. The practice has been in business since the 1930s, founded by Amos Stultz, who passed away at the age of 100 a few years ago. His son, Bud Stultz, runs the practice, and is himself a highly qualified vet. Amos opened the practice during the Great Depression, and often bartered for his services back in that difficult time. Their walk-in hours are a godsend, particularly if you come home from work and find an animal that needs attention, and you do not have to go to an emergency vet practice and pay exorbitant rates. They also offer occasional emergency service to their regular customers, and it has been my privilege to be in their operating room while the vet performed an emergency C-section on one of my pregnant cats, after hours, and did not charge me an arm and a leg for this service. My dog Schotzie a Weimaraner needed an operation "torn ACL-leg ligament" searched by calling so many veterinarians, cost started from 3,000 and up OMG big money all stated they use new laser technique. Finally, I found Hopewell Vets which use the old and new technique. The old technique used for years cost was $1,800.00 which was a big difference from $3,000 and up. I immediately took Schotzie for the operation and to my surprise a payment plan was permitted. I understand improvements in the medical field but nothing wrong with the previous technique especially when the cost is exorbitant difference. Schotzie doing well like she never had a problem. I have Horses dogs and have had cats. I have taken all my animals here. The vets are great, they really know there stuff, they work to get you in and out quickly and are very friendly. You can tell that they really care about the animals. Oliver takes care of my horses and I couldn't imagine a better man for the job. He's kind and really works with my animals making them feel comfortable, we've even become friends. It's a great place to take your pets if you want excellent care at a very reasonable price. When our jack russel terrier had a tumor on his leg burst, my parents rushed him and they were very honest with them and right there with my mom while he had to be put down. I have been taking my animals to HVG for many years, and always refer people to them anytime their is a pet-care related conversation because I have had nothing but positive experiences there. They offer walk in hours each afternoon and evening that you can bring any of your pets to see them for anything from general pet care, emergencies, routine check-ups, vaccinations, and almost any veterinary need. The customer service provided by entire staff is exceptional with everyone going above and beyond for patients and their humans. With numerous Veterinarians available they offer a wide variety of expertise, knowledge, and services to fill most any pet-care need possible, including specific medical specialties & many different animal species. You can also request a certain vet depending on personal preference and circumstances since they typically have a regular weekly schedule with hours both by appointment as well as during the walk-in times to see regular and new patients. I want to make sure I mention how reasonable the fees they charge are. Regardless of the type of visit, service rendered, vaccine shot or medicine given the total bill still surprises me each time. At the recommendation of someone I trusted, I recently brought my sick 12.5-year-old Pomeranian here for treatment and, eventually, euthanasia. Gee, gald I didn't see most of these reviews before we took our retriever to their practice. I'm quite certain that what's posted here is legitimate but either things have changed or we got lucky. We just got Oscar about a week before the visit and we came in during the walk-in hours. The place was packed but they cleared the crowd out pretty quickly; we had a short wait. Our vet (Mark, I think) was very good with Oscar (and us) and gave him a thorough examination. Mark answered a bunch of our questions, naive though they were as we're new dog owners. He spent a fair amount of time with us, to the point that we simply had no more questions. Our exit was just as friendly with all the vet techs, paying, etc. I will admit that there was one lady there who I think had her dog being operated on and she was NOT a happy camper. Didn't hang around to find out. We're going back but we do pay attention to these reviews and we're a bit more circumspect this time around. Being in the pharma business, I was interested in the comments about using vet drugs that are "not recommended anymore" since I know that applies to human drugs also. But such recommendations can be the results of issues not related to safety/efficacy.....marketing, for example. Just my $.02 read more

I called Hopewell Valley Vet this morning to schedule an appointment for our older dog who isn't doing well. They told me they couldn't see him until April 12th. They no longer do walk-ins due to COVID and they have shortened their hours to 2 pm. I guess Covid only shows up after 2 pm. When I asked what the reasoning was for shortening their hours, the woman had no explanation. How are people that work supposed to get there before 2 pm. Of course, they have Saturdays but they are booked solid. It is seriously disheartening what kind of position they are putting their clients in and the lack of care they have for their animals. Ive been going to Hopewell Vet for over 10 years and the service has honestly been getting worst over the years. They misdiagnosed my other pet a year ago and because of their misdiagnoses we had to put her down. The vet barley looked at her and just said she had lymes disease, she did not, she had a respiratory infection. Do yourself and you pets a favor and go somewhere else. read more

We moved to Florida and took our two bunnies to a vet in Orlando and for what they got us for , we could have had sufficient money to travel back to the Hopewell Veterinary Group . And this was without the "DNA " testing for the bunnies . The next time we are in NJ we seriously intend to bring our bunnies to this clinic . This is the only veterinary clinic I have ever been happy with and felt they were in it for the animals and not to cheat people . The place we went in Orlando took a common rabbit problem and made it like when you buy a new car , where they keep leaving the room and returning with various price estimates on paper . I forgot what it was like to get taken by a place such as that . That is ok , they got us good one time , but that is the last time . When I returned to the area in 2000 I went right back to them. They do a lots of the tests on site and that reduces costs. They have Day Time walk in hours and Evening walk in hours. I took my first dog to this vet for a few years. They were OK, but not the best. The doctor my dog had was fairly old-fashioned and seemed a bit callous (I don't remember his name though). Other vets I've had since made sure that my dogs were up on their annual exams, healthy, etc. With this vet, it was me who had to take the proactive role and follow through and ask questions etc. When my dog was really sick, I tried to make an emergency appointment but instead was told to wait for walk-in hours. read more

Be careful with your cats here, if your animal is at all anxious or skittish they use the box method. If you don't know what that is, it's an old fashioned technique that they put your cat in a glass box and put a gas in there until they knock out. It's considered now by many vets to be extremely old fashioned, inhumane, dangerous/potentially deadly, cruel, and traumatic. My cat had no problems with strangers until that visit and ever since she has never been the same. They said they'd prescribe her an anxiety medicine that despite me calling many times took 3 MONTHS to even get a prescription. This place may be good if you have an extremely docile animal who loves the vet (not many animals do..) otherwise, take your business and your wallet elsewhere!! read more

DO NOT SEE THE FEMALE DR AT THIS PRACTICE. My family has been going to this vet group for 8+ years- always very happy. Usually go to see Dr. H, male doc. Recently took puppy in, saw female dr...she is so unprofessional! I'm usually not one to write about this, but she complained about dogs barking-- in a VET OFFICE! then proceeded to say our dog looked unhealthy and coat was not good! Made a lot of off handed comments- but did not give any explanation or advice on how to fix it! Left VERY upset....called later that day to complain and the office suggested he was sent home with fleas?! What kind of doctor is this....did not even offer a refund or another complimentary visit with another doc! Meanwhile took dog to another vet....he is perfectly healthy!!! No coat problems, nothing whatsoever! Called back up to express dissatisfaction, where the doctor herself got back on the phone and told me I was not forced to go see another vet, that it was my choice!!!!!!! Was never even offered a credit or apology! Then was told I can see request doctor instead or go elsewhere. WHAT KIND OF SERVICE IS THIS!!!! How unprofessional. I may NEVER go back to hopewell again! We have gone to this vet for years and until recently were happy with them. I made an appointment and they screwed up the day. The front desk staff was rude and could of cared less they made a mistake. They tried to make me sit there for an hour with a 12 week old kitten who was freakin out. The girl at the from desk didn't try once to see if there was a vet available or fix the situation. I told then I would go somewhere else also made no difference. They obviously do not value their lint time customers. They did nothing, she was rude and unprofessional. We will never go back there again! The place is also very out of date! read more

Our family has used Hopewell veterinary group for the past 45 years.We have had horses,goats ,dogs,cats.I have needed alot of surgeries for my dogs over the years and have never had a bad experience.Also they charge a fraction of what the other vets charge for exampleI know someone who had a dog with a sock stuck in the dogs intestine the surgery was $3400.00.I had the same problem with my dog only it was rubber.I was charged $1200.00 at hopewell.Most of the vets have 30+ years of experience.I would Highly recomend this place! read more

This practice is good for routine visits - they are very affordable and can do the normal, everyday stuff just fine. They are using, however, certain drugs that are not recommended any more (don't know if the vets just haven't read up on the literature or are stuck in their ways or have another reason for using these drugs) and are not necessarily using the most up to date procedures either. As Jason stated, they are not "hand holders," they are very much all business and it can be difficult to get an explanation from them at times as to why they are doing certain things. They also tend to recommend the cheapest option instead of providing different options for the client to choose from. I feel lucky that I have a veterinarian in the family that I can consult for a second opinion (who also did a short internship with Hopewell Vet though in their large animal division) and part of my review is based on what she observed. read more
