The Camera Exchange - Great selection of camera, lenses & accessories

The Camera Exchange

The Camera Exchange in San Antonio is hands-down the best camera shop I've ever walked into. The…read morestaff here is unbelievably helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. Whether you're a complete novice who barely knows how a camera works or a seasoned photographer looking for the perfect upgrade, they meet you exactly where you are--no ego, no pressure, no fluff. Their used equipment selection is fantastic, and the prices are honestly some of the best you'll find. Everything is clearly explained, tested, and in great condition. What really sets this place apart, though, is the staff. They take their time, listen to what you actually need, and guide you toward the right gear without upselling or overwhelming you. If you want a shop where you can ask questions, learn something, and walk out with exactly what you need (and at a great price), this is the place. Highly recommend!

I do miss being able to get my dark room supplies here. Oh dark room days. I need to set up a new one, I still shoot analog. (Gosh that.word feels so old. ) The reason for four stars is the way in which the girl greeted me vs the man right behind me. Yes, I noticed. But, the gentleman that assisted me apparently did too. It was a quick & simple sale. I walked in knowing precisely what I needed. I've been shooting for 52 years, I know my stuff. Walked in & out in under 10 minutes & spent $74 on one item & a really neato battery for my D800, my play camera. I had grabbed the Nikon brand, but he showed me the one I got because it charges, the battery itself, via USB. SOLD! I already have extras, so this is my OCD, gotta have it extra. I appreciated him showing me this new shiny new fangled must have. I walked out a happy girl. Time to go click the shutter. The fact that this city is as big as it is, & this is still our only camera store - I'm still so thankful they're here. Most of their employees are exceptional, there's always one. Meh. Don't let em ruin your day.

We experienced disability discrimination here a few years back. This is a social media platform so I…read moream going to speak freely about it with out intimidation though I realize they may try... Definitely left a bad feeling about this place regardless of a few of the good teachers that do work here my son met in the teen summer program. As a non profit based accredited establishment it just still doesn't sit well with me..The way everything was handled after my written complaint against the teacher was atrocious. It's a lot to process in ones heart and mind when something like this happens and the situation was It's a long story but In short.A glass blowing teacher who was working with the school reached out to me by telephone because my 16year old sons mild stimming (he is autistic) was making the 4 adult members of the class uncomfortable and they as well as the teacher seemed to conclude that the place was not for him because the other students and herself thought he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol... He has a mild fluttering of his hands and occasionally giggles subconsciously.. A common trait in folks with ADHD and on the autism spectrum. The teacher added insult to injury by claiming to "know how to work with autistic children and wanted to work with him 1 on 1" and she didn't think he was a good fit because he "could get hurt" Like I should trust a person like that 1 on one.Made it through the call and just let her rattle on then started up a email to Barbra the president of the SWAC at the time. FYI he has taken 2 welding classes prior from another company and been in metal jewelry making classes and worked with furnaces before. He is quite mature and intelligent. To Infantilize people on the spectrum IS discriminatory. To assume they are on drugs IS discrimination and gross. The arts community should be more accepting. This info I held back because the president elected of the school Barbra at was experiencing illness and I had sympathy for the situation but everything about this situation was mishandled. The theme was to try and prove my son was incompetent of being in a class without a appointed attendant by the school to watch over him only there wasn't any available and they didn't allow him to take any other classes he was signed up for because they concluded by the advice of the glass blower woman he was unfit and a danger to the class. This was untrue. Offered me most of my money back with the exception of a $900 credit they never honored.Still get mail and emails asking for contributions but when they redid their website my credit and history of purchases just disappeared... What happened was disability discrimination and injustice. Ran off with my credit for a $900 class too.Disappeared completely and I am not about to call them to have some bureaucrat mamm me and tell me how they won't return my money because I'm sure they have no record of it now.. Try and do what you can to ensure a good life for your kids and when you are met with this kind of thing it's not only discouraging but heartbreaking too. Made sure my son didn't know a thing about the awful things the teacher said but he was disappointed the classes got canceled and just didn't feel like a safe space for him anymore so never used my $900 credit of what they didn't refund me.

However, when we asked Jackie if she was up to the task, she jumped on it! Jackie and I became friends a few years back while working in Hawaii on a cruise ship. Also, fun tip, she was the one that got Jason and I together. I was so grateful that she still agreed to photograph our COVID wedding since there was traveling involved. Even though our wedding was very different from what we originally planned her attention to detail and flexibility made everything so stress free. Of course, I was running late so everything got pushed back but she was able to work with that too! When asked, Jackie agreed to photograph digitally and with film, I personally love how soft and timeless film can look and was so happy with how those turned out. I've only seen sneak peaks and I can't wait to see the rest! Jason and I can't wait to experience this again in a year with all our friends and family at our postponed reception. Love you Jackie! From our first interaction, their communication was always timely, professional, and fun. The quality of her work and value was outstanding - the photos she captured were absolutely gorgeous and perfectly on theme with our wedding preferences. Jackie was familiar with our Japanese tea garden venue and used her eye for photo locations, lighting, poses, and angles to make the photos feel uniquely ours. She put us at ease throughout the day and we ended up with our favorite photos of all time! Jackie is truly amazing, and we would not hesitate to book with her again for any future photography needs.

Gary showed me that his abilities and patience extend to all age ranges and skill levels. My eleven year old emerged out of the session with a better understanding of photography than myself (at least pretty close to it) and an experience which he hasn't stopped talking about yet!
