Everything is stacked according to sizes so unlike other stores that want you to roam the full store and keep wasting your time hoping to find something that you like, Wynsors keeps it simple. If you know yourshoe size, you just walk over to the shelves that say your size and you will have all the varieties stacked up in a single place which in addition to their friendly customer service earns them the extra star. The budget range are moderate quality and a good for someone on a strict budget imho. Their branded ones are good as well. make sure you browse their website before you go as they may not always have everything in stock but if you ask, they will happily order one for you in store and call you when the order is ready.

And then an assistant would pull out all the cutesy styles in my size and my mother would send back the ones she deemed inappropriate for school, and I would try on the remaining ones, pick my favourite, and we would leave with two pairs, as I would invariably destroy the first pair before Christmas. I was that clumsy. I like to think I've refined myself a bit these days, but when it comes to properly shoes, I'm not talking fashion shoes to go out with the girlies, but tidy work shoes that require me to be on my feet or out representing at an event and such, and I need something that's firstly comfortable and with some semblence of style, I always resort back to Clarks'. Funny how stuff like that stays with you. My official tidy boots, the boots I live in for walking around when required to be in a suit are Clarks and they don't cause me an ounce of trouble. All leather and beautifully made, comfortable, practical, hardwearing, and not hideous. Clarks' still cater to children, and it still amuses me watching a child getting fitted for new term shoes, and the styles have got a bit more child friendly since then, but they've got a bit more fashion friendly all around. Men, Women and Children, they even do the odd handbag, and the shoecare that everyone tries to sell you but you never want to buy. Styles reflect the fashions, albeit a more practical foot friendly version. Still irks me that they never sell the Clarks' Originals range in any Clarks' store I've been in lately, but you can't have it all now can you.

Further poking around, led me to see another buckle clad biker boot for just £90, a quick sniff test and, yes, it was leather. Why hadn't I taken the plunge before? It's always been a place I'd walked by and never felt compelled to explore. Is it because I've got an uncle Aldo and I was avoiding it through disassociation? I'm not sure. It could be down to the fact that every time I've wandered by the store is absolutely teeming with people, or that I prejudged it to be super expensive and beyond my budget. My sensible shoe/non sneaker budget is always less than my kickass sneaker budget. In addition to women's shoes they do a range of men's boots and shoes, although on first glance, your man in your life would have to be a bit on the metrosexual side, as styles are more on the exploratory fashion conscience side of things rather than practical Clarks' types. Some of the selections are hit and miss, and as a demographic it's hard to decide if they're targeting the older middle aged crowd, the fashion conscience students, or the teenagers with far too much money yet a healthy appetite for switchblade stilettos and thigh highs. Hmmm. The last time I went in sale season was still in bloom, and due to busy periods staff were a little fraught and run ragged from traipsing up and down stairs, one imagines. At least I would have dry feet. I didn't have much faith in Barratt fixing this for me, but spied what I imagined to be the perfect pair in their window display. Black, check, waterproof, check, nice, check! So I went in. I very nearly got distracted by a hoard of other non-essential pretty shoes, such as some lovely jade suede heels, but was put back to the real mission by my boyfriend. I asked the lady if she could show me those lovely ones in the window in a size five please. She said I should ask for them upstairs, in the *cough* children's section. Hrmph. So the one pair of reasonable, sensible, decent boots I could find were children's boots. Unhappy me. I went up and luckily they go up to a size 5 in kiddy shoes. I tried them on and they were comfy so I thought I'd just go for it. £25 they were. For an adult that is pretty good, but for kids shoes? Man alive! Pretty expensive. Thankfully I am not a child. As for the boots, the still look cool and have survived a good 2 months so far. One major problem is that they are a bit lethal on any shiny/wet surface. Be it rainy pavement, icy road or indeed waxen floor I am sure to fall flat on my behind unless I concentrate real hard at walking. And no one should have to use brain power to walk, surely. So, again, I worry for the kids. But still. Can't judge them on one pair of children's boots. Overall, they offer a large range of pretty looking shoes and boots. Prices tend to reflect quality - extra medium all the way. So not amazing, but not awful either. And the boots have kept my feet dry at the very least, so I'm happy about that.

Upon ascending the stairs you see that each step denotes a key moment in the history of Adidas, elevating the importance of the basement store to something of a museum exhibit. Up to the second floor (this shop really is huge!) and you find the more general clothing with a variety of brands including fread Perry and Lyle & Scott. The gear is pricey but a little more varied and interesting than the usual suspects in the Adidas dungeon. There are loads of lavishly branded t-shirts, expensive jeans and some vintage-look cardigans and checked shirts...but I can't help but feel you'd be better off buying true vintage for a quarter of the price rather than paying through your nose just for the addition of a tiny embroidered logo. And that was just the first floor. If the giant Converse boot on the ground floor doesn't tickle you (it still amuses me to this day) then there's the basement, dedicated to the uber-cool Adidas Originals brand. Everything is organised by colour palette and is typical of the Originals brand, again it's a bit pricey, but if you're a fan of the brand it's totally worth it to pick up something fairly unique. Once you've hit Adidas, jump in the lift, take the two floors up and get off at the equally uber-cool clothing department. Again there is staff on hand to provide informed answers to questions, and that's not forgetting the chance to browse the familiar brands with a different twist to them.
