First of all because I live nowhere near Dudley Road but I've been known to drive there *just* to go to The Frying Pan. That's a 6 mile round trip....for chips. Why else? Well, if you go at around the 7pm mark, or when there is a big game about to start on TV, the queue is literally out of the door...and there are plenty of other fast food places within easy walking distance. Why would people risk missing the kick off, or making their family wait? Because The Frying Pan is the best, that's why. Why do I love The Frying Pan? The food is fresh, the ingredients are good, the service is quick and friendly and it's pretty good value for money. It's pretty easy to make a lousy job of fish and chips, but it takes something special to make it this good. I ordered a small portion of chips which was cheap and a can of coke. The staff were pleasant and chatty, which was nice and I did not have to wait long at all to get my chips. It was fairly big inside too and so if you had to queue there would be enough room inside. Overall, I think this is a pretty standard chippy, which is worth a visit if you live in the local area.

I also find this place highly entertaining, as Pete's number of staff seems to grow and grow each time I go in. The staff fight amongst themselves for your service and all share a role in preparing your grub, from dishing out the chips, to dishing out the fish, to pouring salt and vinegar on, to wrapping up the food to collecting your money. Surely one staff member could do all that themselves? Although I'm not complaining, as I find the whole process highly entertaining while I'm waiting for my own fish & chips to be cooked. They are also efficient because it can often get quite busy and it is nice that they do not stretch the amount of staff they have on, there is never just one person at peak times unlike other places. Food is the same as other fish and chip shops the country over and at prices you would expect. It is good food and you dont feel as though it has been sitting under the heat light all day.
