    Doors & Drawers

This review is for the product (actual doors and drawers) only, not the installation, as I can't…read morespeak to that, as I never interacted with them directly. I had my kitchen refaced in early February 2025, and the guy I used in Chicago uses Doors & Drawers to make the drawer boxes and cabinet doors (he also uses other companies for thermafoil doors and for full cabinets, so he doesn't work for D&D). The doors and drawer boxes seem to be well made (at least right out of the gate), and they were well packaged with protective foam/individually wrapped when the installers from my kitchen guy arrived with them. My condo kitchen has 22 doors, 4 drawer fronts, and 6 new drawer boxes (3 for a pantry pullout, 3 regular drawers), so the order was substantial. They also made the new crown molding that I wanted to fill a small gap between my cabinet top and ceiling soffit and the veneer side panels/toe kick. I went with shaker cabinets (2.5 inch rails and stiles) with a solid wood inset panel rather than MDF, so it's a reverse raised panel. I love the look versus the shaker on both sides because it feels more substantial. I went with maple and chili pepper stain. Everything matches really well. Their website and social media leaves a lot to be desired. I was browsing their site trying to make a decision about color/style and everything on their page seems to be from 2016 and earlier. Their Facebook page also recycles the same images (they posted a photo right before I selected my options that they originally posted in 2014 when I scrolled back in their posted photos), and they don't have an Instagram. I was a little hesitant to use them because some of the photos on their site/FB don't look great. The stain looks streaky sometimes in their sample photos and the lighting isn't that good, and some of the kitchens they selected aren't really show-kitchen worthy, so most of the example kitchens look dated and don't help sell their product. But, I guess they get points for authenticity -- maybe a lot of their customers are folks who aren't looking at Pinterest and Instagram every day. There are a few photos on their website that look more updated, but there isn't any information about the project so it doesn't help inform which wood/stain combo to choose. I was nervous going into it, but mine came out great (and not streaky!). They could really use a huge refresh on their website and social media pages to get some customer images from this decade. They only have about 10 kitchens that they rotate through in all their photos/posts. (They do occasionally post photos that aren't on their website, but I'm not sure if those are actually their products because it looks so starkly different -- almost like stock photos -- compared to their example projects). I also tried messaging them on Facebook and emailing them via their website to ask about the color of certain cabinets in their images online, as they don't always say which stain color/wood species their example images are from, and I was trying to identify some of the ones that I liked. They never responded to either contact. But, when my kitchen guy emailed them to ask if they had photos of maple wood with a wood stains that I was considering, they did email him some example photos that aren't on their website from other projects, which helped. I'll update the review in a few months as I see how they're wearing with time and humidity changes throughout winter, but so far I'm pretty happy. These do show finger prints like crazy, and wiping them with a dry cloth doesn't work so I bought some wood cleaner but I'm afraid to use it. The doors are definitely real wood, as I have had to adjust the doors a few times during the summer when the humidity made them expand and start to butt against each other when closing. I'll be curious to see how well they hold up to cleaning. I just think they're doing themselves a huge disservice with their lack of website/social media updates and not showcasing more recent kitchens. I also plan to contact them to ask about the chili pepper stain, because I'd like to find out the brand (I couldn't find any stain company with a "chili pepper" online, so they either make their own or re-name a Miniwax stain or something). I have wood barstools in my kitchen and some wood shelves in my living room that I would like to stain in the same color since I have an open concept space and would like to carry the shade throughout the space, or potentially order some extra veneer wrap that I could affix to the shelves. I'll be curious if they respond. I've added a cropped photo of part of my kitchen to show what the chili pepper on maple looks like to help other prospective clients, as I would've liked to have a recent photo when I was making my decision. I have a 30-year old existing true white tile backsplash and 6 year old white carrara quartz counters, so that's the color combo in the pic.

Installer was missing some doors, knobs and restrictor plates. Oct 31-Called to let them know about a hole in one of the doors. Office lady said knobs on back order (2-3 weeks) and the installer will look at door with hole when he comes to install the knobs. Nov 2-Phillip (salesman) came out to look at the door with a hole. He took it with him for repair. He dropped the door so it had to be rebuilt instead of just repaired. Nov 16-Called D&D for an update. Replacement door won't be done until 11/21, knobs still on back order. Install will be after Thanksgiving. Nov 27-Door is done and knobs are in. Can't get installer out until 12/7. Dec 7-Installer threw out his back. Rescheduled for 12/10. Dec 12-Installer returned after 2 appointments being rescheduled. He didn't have restrictor plates. Hung the door that replaced the one with the hole and installed all the knobs. The hinges for the lazy susan door were on the wrong side so that has to be rebuilt. Jan 2-Replacement lazy susan door finished. Installer should call "this week" to schedule appointment. Jan 10-Called office because haven't heard from installer. Jan 18-Installer late. Lazy susan doors built too large, have to be rebuilt. Also showed installer that the replacement door from one with the hole is wrong style, has trim the others don't. Also showed him chip out of door under the sink. He took that to be rebuilt as well. Still no restrictor plates. Jan 24-Called office for update. Office is still waiting on installer to give them measurements to rebuild lazy susan door. Earliest they'll be back is mid February.
