I love nothing more than a unique venue with endless possibilities (bonus brownie points if it has…read morehistorical charm), so it's no surprise I fell head over heels in love with Grand Hall at Union Station when I attended a Creative Mornings talk. In the good ol' days, this is where travelers waited for their trains. It opened in 1888, and looking around you can sense the history and visualize a black and white photo of Union Station in its glory days. When train travel went by the wayside, Grand Hall was left abandoned and dilapidated until it was transformed into a shopping mall + food court in the 1980s. When Circle Center Mall opened up and stole the thunder, Grand Hall was remodeled to become the gorgeous event space it is today. This is a great example of a historical building that in many ways has remained the same but has changed its purpose to meet the needs of the time. A lovely venue for a large seminar, annual meeting, or wedding. I highly recommend you check out Union Station and also take a peek at the train car hotel rooms at the adjacent Crowne Plaza. Take a step back in time and reimagine Indy as the crossroads of the country - by train, that is!

Finally made it out here after meaning to do so for two years (oops!) Finally posting this review…read moreafter a month or so in drafts (oops again!) Skosh is a lifestyle bar, so that means everything is available to purchase within the space, from the beverages on the menu to the couch you'll enjoy it on. They have an extensive menu of coffee and non-caf drinks. I got the blueberry basil refresher, which was their syrup of the month for May. It was refreshing, with hints of lemon alongside the syrup flavors. I think it could have been mixed better, since the top was mostly the Sprite and the bottom was more syrupy. It was also a fairly large drink too. On First Friday when I went, they had a nice open mic night with local artists performing their original work. It's great to see a business to support local talent!

I got a salted chocolate chip cookie, but I also considered the cinnamon roll. They also have brownies, carrot cake and yogurt parfaits. It's not a huge food menu. They have a much larger beverage menu, including coffee in all of its permutations, like traditional ol' drip coffee, lattes, Americanos, cortados, macchiatos and the like. Other beverages include tea, lemonade, hot cocoa and yerba mate. The salted chocolate chip cookies was great. Kinda salty and as big as my hand. I think they get the baked goods from a local place. Skosh is like a thrift store with a coffee shop inside it. There are couches and furniture nicely arranged that you can sit on, but that furniture is for sale. So is the clothing that is placed hither and thither. So are the mirrors and paintings all around. You can get something to drink and then kind of just wander around and look at all of the things around the store. A black cat wanders around the store, too! How can it get better? It really can't. Skosh is a must-visit if you're in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

The sunken garden was an okay view, the fountains were beautiful but there wasn't any other foliage, flowers, or scenery out there to enhance the view. Admissions is affordable at $5 per person, but it was free the day we visited because of a reptile show! We got to see tortoises, skinks, salamanders, tarantulas, snakes, and more! Inside the conservatory, there are fish and a couple other critters permanently on display. The signage around the gardens is informative and interesting- and the plants are simply beautiful! So well cared for and healthy. I could have walked around the loop 5 times and noticed new things each time. There are several places to sit and relax throughout the gardens (we fed our baby on one of the benches). There is a restroom and coat racks- which you'll need because the gardens are quite warm! What a great find for the afternoon! Bonus that it's located right in a park, by a library, several cute places to stop and eat, and public art. The only downside I can think of is that there wasn't a ton of parking- probably more accessible when there isn't a special event going on!

Shanna was so amazing. She took care of EVERYTHING. I hosted my son's 18th birthday party here, and all I had to do was show up with food. Shanna decorated everything exactly the way we discussed plus more. There were plenty of places to pose for pictures and she included all of my son's interest. I didn't have to even worry about monitoring the food because she took care of that, too (although the mom/host in me still did it, too). I truly wish I was hosting another event soon so that I could rent this place again. I was so happy with everything, but more importantly, my 18 year old was even happier. I am truly happy with my experience from talking with Shanna on the phone to the outcome of everything. Thank you so much for making my son's 18th birthday a day to remember
