Prior to crossing I needed to use the restroom, but neglected to do so. I was told by a person in my party that I should have used the restroom prior to getting across the border, as everywhere you go they charge you to use the restroom. But not me, I know a thing or two, and I know that you can find a free bathroom just about anywhere you go. I mean my friend wasn't wrong, as soon as you get across the border there is a sign to use the bathroom. After walking around a bit and for what felt like miles, it was time, I couldn't hold it anymore. Coming down the street I saw the sign for the hospital. My mind already knew, there has to be a bathroom in here, and it has to be free of charge to use. Outside the facility we asked someone that just exited if there was a bathroom inside and she informed us that there was and where to find it. Easy as pie. But once inside, I was kind of floored by how nice and clean this place was. It doesn't have your typical hospital smell to it. It almost comes across as a mall more than it does a hospital. Of course, all we saw of this was the entrance, escalators and the general floor where the restrooms were. But it still struck me that what is offered in the hospitals in Mexico isn't quite there yet in the US. Granted, to see a floor mostly for plastic surgery is odd to me, but not unheard of. Also on this floor was a clothing store, but not for hospital scrubs or the like, it looked more like workout clothing. The staff inside that we did interact with were very polite and directed us to where we wanted to go. As I had said, the facility was nearly spotless. Smelt fresh, and the bathrooms, you guessed it, were free to use.

In September 2022, I went to the emergency room in San Diego with pain. Since my insurance was MediExcel I told them I was going to hospital Excel. (The studies here found kidney stones and a large cyst on my ovary.) The condition of the emergency room was filthy, no privacy, and no coordination. The specialist said he could do nothing for my kidneys because the stones were too high up and hard to treat. They did schedule a surgery to remove my cyst. That was done October 14, 2022. There were complications, but they said it was successful, and I wouldn't have issues again. Last week, I had emergency surgery here in San Diego to remove a stone from blocking. The same day, I found out I grew another cyst and will need surgery again!!! I have spoken to the department heads, but they just cover up their mistakes. They like to use the words " there is no merit to your accusations." No one takes responsibility for anything. Since they are in Mexico, they know they're untouchable. I almost lost my life, I lost my career, and my family has gone through so much pain and torment. I will never be the same. IT'S ABOUT GREED, NOT PATIENT CARE!! MEDIEXCEL AND HOSPITAL EXCEL, YOU CAN NOT PUT A DOLLAR AMOUNT ON LIFE!!!! THE ADMINISTRATIVE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME NOT TO POST NEGATIVELY ABOUT THE COMPANY, BUT I WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED! If anyone has had horrible experiences there, let it be known. Contact me. I'm bedridden because of them right now, but you know what they can't silence me!

Most recently, my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2025. By July, she was cancer-free. While she chose to undergo chemotherapy alongside the clinic's protocols, her recovery was remarkably fast, and she now maintains her health using the Hoxsey diet. Beyond the medical results, the environment is beautiful and calming. They offer educational classes where nutritionists explain exactly how food affects the body and cancer. While the doctors in Mexico are more blunt and direct than American doctors, I found their honesty refreshing--they simply want to ensure there is no room for misunderstanding. The logistics are also very manageable. They provide a list of discounted hotels and can arrange safe transportation from San Diego. I even personally know drivers who offer border transit for $100 for patients and $75 for companions. This clinic even helped me regrow my hair after suffering from alopecia in 2016. They are honest about their 80% success rate, but as they say, your own will to live is a vital part of the journey.

This review will be lengthy as it is important for anyone considering weight loss surgery to review…read moreall their options. This review can also serve as advice in getting weight loss surgery as I will add important caveats. When I got serious about weight loss surgery after suffering the up and down weight gain and loss from PCOS I researched a lot of places on different countries. I could have done the surgery under my insurance but I wanted it done right away. This hospital was on the top of my list. They have many coordinators and liaisons to help you through your whole process. Karla is awesome!! She takes care of every practical detail and makes sure everything is fulfilled to your standard. To qualify for the surgery you will need to go to their website and put in your info with height and weight. You get accepted right away if you qualify then you are contacted by a representative of the hospital. They do require a list of meds, previous surgeries, allergies, and medical history. There are certain conditions to prevent you from having the surgery and they won't risk your life for money. An internist sees you before surgery to review meds and blood work. He will also instruct you when to retake meds or stop taking certain meds altogether. Before surgery they obtain blood labs, Covid test, lung CT, and EKG. You get all your records, imaging, and prescribed post surgical meds upon discharge. I had the gastric sleeve which lasts 45 minutes. You are placed under anesthesia and they remove 80% of your stomach through laparoscopy. I have 4 scars on my stomach that will heal nicely. They do put a drain in you to remove any excess blood so your body doesn't have to go about absorbing it all. The most painful part of the surgery was the drain. It hurt with movement and deep breathing. I did well with my incentive spirometer but it was hard with that drain. Other patients complained about it too but we all realized it was very necessary! When it came out I felt 1000 times better. They do encourage you to drink fluids slowly after surgery and provide bottled water, Gatorade, and juice as well as ice chips. They had normal saline running the whole time and also hung antibiotics, pain medicine, steroids for inflammation, and meds to prevent nausea and reflux. Okay, so this place is as modern as it's going to get. As a nurse there were a lot of things I would do different but I was a good patient ;) The stretcher I was on had blood splatter (I hope) from another patient and one nurse gave me a breathing treatment with a mask that had been on the floor. I did my own cleaning in my room. I am so happy to have had this procedure here. They do a leak test the next day to make sure you're stitched up tight, by the way.

I want to share my honest experience with Mexico Bariatric Center so others know what to expect…read more There is a huge language barrier between patients and a lot of the nurses and doctors. Some doctors speak English very well, but many do not, which made communication stressful at times. Another big issue was unexpected costs. I was told upfront what my package included, but once I was discharged, I was charged for every medication given during my stay. I was also hit with a BMI fee that I was originally told was already covered during my first consultation and paid before arrival. At discharge, I ended up paying an additional $835 on top of the $6,000+ I had already paid. On top of that, I paid for a full gastric bypass, but I was actually given a mini gastric bypass. This was never explained to me by the surgeon--I only found out afterward from the aftercare doctor. I do want to say Dr. Martin was great. She spoke excellent English, explained everything clearly, and I really appreciated her care. However, after surgery, I experienced complications and was throwing up blood. I was given medication to help with clotting, but I was continuously charged for it without being told. I assumed it was included in my surgical package, but it was not. Overall, I would say be very cautious and ask detailed questions about costs and procedures before booking with Mexico Bariatric Center. Make sure you fully understand what is included--and what is not.

I had breast…read morecancer with left breast mastectomy in 2010 and as a result, had terrible overall breast symmetry. Contending with an overly large perky saline implant on my left breast, and a very saggy sad right breast, I had a rather low self-image. I also was saddled with huge flabby upper arms and lots of side boob. I hadn't worn a short sleeve shirt in years. I found Dr. Flores in Tijuana, Mexico and after visiting his web site, conducted due diligence to ensure he was board certified and had no instances of malpractice. I found he was boarded in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and in General Surgery. His ratings were five stars. I contacted the practice online, sent initial photos, and they responded back very quickly with recommendations for improvement and a professional brochure that included a lot of information about the Dr., the team, the hospital and the hotel along with a very reasonable quote. Soon after, I had my first web consult with Dr. Flores. I decided to move forward with the surgery, and upon my arrival in San Diego, the office arranged a ride for me from the airport to the Dr's office in Tijuana where I had my pre-op consultation and met the support team. Everyone was very kind to me and took a great deal of time to ensure I had all my questions answered and was comfortable with the proposed surgeries, implants, and subsequent care. Dr. Flores did the "mark-up" and spent a great deal of time helping me to choose the right implant size for my body. Since I was also having an extended arm lift, Dr. Flores also agreed to remove as much side boob and back fat as possible. We also discussed reasonable expectations. Interestingly, I also had an extensive visit/exam with an Internal Medicine physician to ensure I was healthy and could tolerate the anesthesia and surgery with little risk. My surgery was the following early morning, and I spent a night at the hospital. I woke up sometime in the very early morning, and a very sweet nurse brought me broth and Jello. I woke up again in the morning to find Dr. Flores checking in on me. He took lots of time to answer all my questions and he described everything he had done surgically, and he assured me that everything had gone very well. He was very happy with the results and warned me to be patient and to do very little physical activity until cleared. My first impression of my new body was scary. I told Dr. Flores I was very worried. He asked me to be patient and said that what I was seeing was normal, and that everything would be just fine. I stayed in Tijuana for about seven days and was delivered back to the airport and flew home. I had to stay in constant contact with Dr. Flores's office and send new photos every Friday. After one month post op, I began to see that I was going to look amazing. I had my final three-month post-op web visit with Dr. Flores last week and I am now in month four post op, and I am healing up very nicely. My arms are slim and I am very pleased with my new and improved breast symmetry. I now look wonderful in clothes, and my scarring surprisingly has been very minimal. I have had a really excellent experience with Dr. Flores and his wonderful staff. I initially was scared to have the surgery in Mexico, but in retrospect, I was treated so much better than I had been previously in the US. Everyone took the time to get to know me and everyone I encountered was patient and kind. The hotel was beautiful and the food was amazing. I would do it again in a heartbeat and have absolutely no regrets. I highly recommend Dr. Flores and his excellent team.

Every single person on staff was truly incredible from start to finish--I felt safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for the entire time. Dr. Flores uses high-quality implants, which made a huge difference compared to the ones I had done 12 years ago. The level of surgical skill is honestly impeccable. I didn't even realize how poorly my previous procedure had been done until I went through this experience--this was on a completely different level. What stood out most was how heard and listened to I felt throughout the process. Dr. Flores really delivered on the results I was hoping for. I've also had ongoing support from Dr. Yessenia, who has been consistently available to answer questions and guide me through healing, which made a huge difference in my recovery and peace of mind. This was my third plastic surgery procedure in Mexico, and I can confidently say I won't go anywhere else in the future. Highly, highly recommend.

The cancer started to come back and she was set to start chemo (in the USA) at Kaiser. She heard about CHIPSA and wanted to try it. They don't guarantee a cure. When she told me about the program, I figured worse case, her condition would stay the same. That was not the case at all. Her Kaiser doctors (in the USA) said the cancer was coming back but pretty slowly. When she got back from her 3 week treatment the cancer had suddenly picked up speed. To make things worse, she started to lose a lot of hair, which was very traumatizing for her. The CHIPSA treatment included a "weak" chemo with supposedly no side effects (the CHIPSA doctors said hair loss would not be an issue for sure). Her hair loss started a few days after returning home. The so called "weak" chemo was strong enough to cause massive hair loss but completely ineffective against the cancer itself. On top of that, she developed 2 serious bacterial infections, one in her lungs then one in her intestines. Both infections were difficult and time consuming to treat and both were very hard on her. She said there were issues with her chest IV Port, it kept coming loose. Some of her treatments included circulating her blood thru some kind of machine. Plenty of opportunities to pick invasive bacteria which is probably how she got infected. She had to delay the start of her chemo till both infections had been resolved (which took 4 weeks) by which time it was basically way too late for the Kaiser chemo. She passed away 5 weeks later. If I could go back in time I would have stopped her from going to CHIPSA. It was a huge mistake. The trip wasted precious time and caused her harm. I'm sick of people exploiting the fears of cancer patients for financial gain. They know cancer patients are desperate and they prey on them. They typically promote a few miracle cures largely based on anecdotal "evidence". So basically we paid $35,000 only to have my wife return in worse shape than when she went down there in addition to the time wasted. She had a small window of opportunity for the Kaiser chemo to maybe help and that window was squandered because of the CHIPSA visit (and its harmful after effects). My advice is, stay clear of CHIPSA and don't trust people peddling miracle cures. Use the time saved to do something actually beneficial for yourself or your loved ones. Don't make this mistake like we did. I lost my beautiful wife as a result.
