Whatever we asked they right away were so happy to help. Really this town is just full of friendly people, but it's greatly appreciated when you're staying in a new place where you barely speak the language. And the bar right next to the pool was really one of the best in town. We and some friends have tried a few others in town and there's some decent ones, and maybe like two others I'd recommend, but this one is top notch people. Oh and the view..... the view!!! Stunning. They guided us on how to find parking for our car, and we opted to use the valet service for about $15, which was very convenient. Upon arrival, the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. The on-site restaurant was nice, offering great food, and the staff was amazing. Our room had a charming hacienda feel and was clean and comfortable. The hotel's location is fantastic, very close to the center of Guanajuato with access to nice restaurants and wonderful churches. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would highly recommend this hotel.

There's a cafe down the street and tons of good restaurants nearby and tour buses close by. The staff is friendly and will greet you as you pass by. It's welcoming. I wanted to stay longer, but work calls. Another thing worth mentioning is that it's beautiful inside. It's clear that the hotel utilized all high quality handmade and hand painted wood finishings and antique decorations. Inside you are surrounded by the selected paintings, the modern sculptures, soft armchairs and sofas, and the Tiffany lamps. The views on the terrace and the fifth floors are breathtaking. I posted some photos so you can see my room and the terrace view. There are spots to sit and relax on comfortable furniture. You can grab your food to go at some restaurants in GTO and have it inside the hotel. I saw extra blankets and towels on the bedrooms. If you need lotion, shampoo, soap, they have extra. There's a standing fan and television in each of the bedrooms. Also, I noticed windows and outlets in each room. There's gorgeous tile inside the rooms. Downsides: the walls may be thin for some people, but the quality of service outweighed the noise. In addition, I smelled smoke from courtyard from neighbors so I'm not sure if there are non-smoking rooms but this is something to consider when looking at hotels. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely recommend it to others!

We'd circled the town multiple times before a policeman advised him that the hotel is on a street where cars aren't allowed. Hotel 1850 is located right on the Jardin de la Union, the most central gathering place in all of Guanajuato. Yes, you can't get there by car but hotel staff is happy to meet you one short block away to guide you and your luggage directly there. And from there? Well, this is the perfect location for everything you may wish to do in Guanajuato City. I spent 3 nights here, at a cost of about $227US per night and that included daily breakfast for 2 at the restaurant beside the hotel. My room was nicely decorated, immaculate, featured a safe, mini-bar, ample hot water, and good water pressure. A rooftop bar plays loud music so I was pleased to be on a low floor but there's also a lot of music in the Jardin out front. Happily, closing tight the windows in the room drowned out all outside sound. The hotel itself is quite nice and safe, with a doorman and workers always right up front. Staff were warm and hospitable and versed in English. I didn't ask much of anything but they made it clear they could make arrangements for wherever I might wish to go or anything I might wish to see. On site spa services and a gym add to the offerings. I chose Hotel 1850 after doing a lot of research and was pleased to learn that I'd chosen well.

The hotel, formerly a luxury residence (our understanding) is beautifully appointed. However, while we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine upon check-in, that was a one-time only gesture. Additionally, when we asked for an extra coffee pod (and powder creamer) for our in-room coffee maker, we were advised that the cost would be 35 MX pesos ($1.88 US). For a hotel that charges upwards of $300/night, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That's pretty cheesy. Most of all, I would suggest some TOWEL RACKS and CLOTHING HOOKS. There is nowhere to hang either. Our room, very pretty, lacked bathroom privacy--one would step totally naked out of the shower into the main room (here, a few hooks for the hotel bathrobe would be helpful). I HIGHLY suggest a shower bar so that one might adjust the shower head, as well as the larger receptacles for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. I love the L'Occtaine brand, but it is sometimes impossible to squeeze lotions out. The service itself was GREAT!!!!

I've always wanted to visit this UNESCO heritage colonial city and after a uneventful but delayed flight, we were guided to this Villa before we join 7 more friends at the Ex Hacienda la Trinidad. We were treated to a spectacular dinner. Dinner at the Villa Maria Cristina of salmon on tortilla's, tuna on toast, Guacamole with cured beef, pork rind and tortilla chips, Venezuelan arapas with Chicken and avocado; Durado fish with smashed potatoes & asparagus; mahi mahi with mango salsa on Mexican cheese risotto w/edible flowers washed down with a perfect half salt half chili margarita on the rocks and my room for two nights. I wandered through this maze like home with more ups and down stairs than an Escher etching. Stunning from every angle.

In Guanajuato, I think this is probably the best place to stay if you need some (relative) peace…read moreand quiet after a day trekking around this busy city. It's an absolutely stunning property (once you get past the lackluster reception area) and it's up the hill, about a 20-25 min walk from the historic center of town. If you don't like to walk or you're averse to walking uphill (or taking taxis), this is not the place for you. It has a great, beautifully heated outdoor pool, as well as a geothermal pool and hot tub in the spa area (open to all guests). We loved using both. The on-site restaurant is good, but so expensive compared to all the other nice restaurants in town. Like, a glass of apple juice was $6 USD. (In comparison, we went down the street and had a huge, amazing omelette AND a latte for $6.) That said, there are some downsides. Our room was large, with a living room area and bedroom area, but it didn't feel warm and cozy (though the bed was comfortable). It wasn't a room in which we really wanted to hang out. The shower wasn't great, and the toilet leaked--which of course they came and fixed, but it was a bit of a pain. We tried to use the hot tub, and apparently, they don't leave it on and heated all day / evening, so when we arrived it was cold. We had to call someone to turn it on, and they said it would be hot "in a few hours." But would I stay there again? Probably! If the price was right. We got a good deal, so that made us happy. We also discovered that there are some fantastic restaurants at the top of the hill, a short walk from the hotel, so it turned out to be more convenient of a location than we thought.

Cecilia checked us in and couldn't have been nicer. The room was spacious enough, and the bathroom was well-appointed with a great shower. My only quibble was that it didn't have a mini-fridge (although there was a place for one). We asked about either changing rooms or having one brought up. It turned out that only four of the rooms had them installed, but they did provide one for us on the second day. The staff was lovely and Rafael was especially helpful in providing us with tips about getting around and what to see. We chose this hotel because it's not in the center, which can be very noisy at night, and because we knew it would have air conditioning. The only drawback to the location is that it's a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of town where all the action (and restaurants) are found. You do get a bit weary trekking back and forth. The only other issue was that my partner got food poisoning from the chicken sandwich he ordered for lunch in the bar. It was undercooked and laid him low for 24 hours. But the breakfasts we had there were great.

The dinner is wonderful too. Enjoyed our last meal in the city there after dining out at a number of other places. We loved Red Tree House in CDMX. This is just as nice. It can be comparatively pricey but we got a fantastic discount by booking online at booking.com. For that price, it's so much better than some of the higher end hotels. I recommend this as a a place to stay. #treatyourself. Just keep in mind there really is no elevator. Hopefully you don't have any luggage or a problem with walking up 2-3-4 flights of stairs.

They refill the water carafe in the room daily and the rooms are well maintained. The hotel is located on a steep alley not accessible by cars. It's about an 8 minute walk from Teatro Juárez and It's about 90 steps (stairs) to reach it. For the average person, this is not a problem however if you have issues with walking up stairs or steep inclines and plan to leave the hotel often, this may not be the best hotel for you. For anyone else though, the stairs should not be a problem and I wouldn't let it deter you from choosing this hotel. Its in a very central location and embodies the energy of Guanajuato perfectly.
