It was cleaned twice a day by a very friendly staff. Make sure to bring your own locks and use your cubby. They do provide a pillow and sheets but no blanket. Key card access to rooms and two elevators that worked well. Women's and men's bathrooms are separate. There is a nice outdoor terrace and bar (only wine and beer). Cool side note, a girl with like six wigs that wore a tutu left me a book we had talked about when she left early in the AM. I swear, Australians are the neatest people. Some downsides: 1) I did have some small items stolen from me that I forgot to lock up one morning, but that was my own fault and is pretty typical for a hostel. My swim suit was stolen from the bathroom (left to hang and dry) and that was pretty weird cause I'm a strange shape. Whatever. It was a cheap Amazon find. 2) Some of the kids (I repeat KIDS) like to party hard. Lights sometimes came on at two in the morning. I am a light sleeper and witnessed three people who slept walk (why would you share a room?), a high guy butt naked that peed in a corner, a woman who spun in circles eating potato chips at three AM, and one impressive man who got up every 45 minutes and would wipe his faces on the sheets of the empty beds and then unlocked the padlock on the balcony door (dude was Houdini). For me, it was like living in a reality TV show and overall I felt safe enough, BUT if experiencing life with a bunch of young people is not your cup of tea.... I would go ahead and banana split right on outta there. 3) WiFi only worked in the common room, terrace, and stair well. I REPEAT, the WiFi only worked in the COMMON room, TERRACE, and STAIRWELL. If you are expecting a sweet goodnight FaceTime with the hubster in your room, ain't gonna happen. Netflix? Nope. You better download some movies honey. Not the end of the world for me overall, I did a lot of chilling in the stairwell. 4) Cheap but not very filling breakfast. It's so dainty and cute. For tiny people maybe toast and cereal is enough. Not me. The Golden Arches of McDonald's are right across the street and they sell beer....so yeah, you're welcome. Overall, super cheap and clean. Would stay again. Can't beat the price or location. Some of the other hostels were legit in alleyways and very shady. Stick with SafeStay! What I would do differently? I wouldn't spend a whole week there. I really missed my privacy by the end of the trip. Should have gotten a private room at some point. Note to society: please, PLEASE, if you are going for a big solo adventure to Barcelona be safe and smart. Don't go to some random party the cute British guy in bed A1 told you about, or smoke the freshly rolled whatever from the guys that's traveling from Turkey. It might work out for you now but you might wind up chopped up in the back of a trunk. Please be safe and make good choices.

Apart from the hostel which is "good", the staff is really friendly and the rooms are always nice and clean. Showers have some free space between the door and the actual shower to keep your clothes dry while you don't have to go outside naked to get your stuff. A lot of hostels seem to not have thinked about this. Rooms have power outlets to charge your camera, phone or computer and some beds have reading lights as well. Every bed has its own locker and the biggest dorms are equipped with 8 beds, which is fine if you want to sleep in daytime or at night - some other hostels in Barcelona offer 12, 14 or 18-bedded dorms which is nuts if you want to get some rest or when you're staying longer than 2-3 days. The kitchen is big and almost fully equipped, with the only disadvantage for me being the lack of an oven to cook pizza or other pre-prepared meals. Downstairs is a nice chilling area with a bar (which is unfortunately closed) and a big TV room. There are plenty of free computers (11) and wi-fi available. Every day there's a free walking tour taking about 2,5 hours covering most of Barri Gothic and in the evening there's a daily activity. There are two paella nights a week on which the hostel staff cooks both chicken and vegetarian paella which is delicious. They also have guest list access to some of the clubs in Barcelona, although probably not the best clubs out there. Some examples: Carpe Diem Lounge Club, Shoko and La Boîte. The location is good, but not perfect. You'll have to walk for about 10-15 minutes to get to the Ramblas and 20-25 minutes to Plaça Reial. The Sagrada Familia is also about 20 minutes walking. If you don't feel like walking you can always take the subway: the hostel is close to L1 station 'Arc De Triomf' and L4/L1 station 'Urquinaona' (less than 5 minutes walking). I've stayed here for more than a month and I didn't have a single bad experience - so far so good. If you're looking for a good hostel in Barcelona- look no further. This is the one.

The room was VERY clean and actually had quite a bit of room for having 10 beds in it. There is a pretty cool social area where people could hangout and relax. The kitchen area was a little small but seemed as though it would get the job done. The few drawbacks I found was that a metro stop is not terribly close. There is a closer metro stop than the one they give in their directions, however, it is extremely confusing to get to so stick with the one they give until you are better acclimated to the city. Also, there was a man who worked the late night-early morning shift who became extremely frazzled in the morning. When we came down for breakfast, he lightly scolded us and told us and told us not to come down for breakfast until 8:00am because he did not have sufficient time to set it up, however, when I looked at my clock it was 8:15... Regardless, it is nothing I would not stay here over. Overall: I was very impressed with this hostel and would absolutely stay here again. Side note: The pickpocketing is terrible!! Be very careful with your belongings! Side Story: After an exhausting day of travel, my friend and I decided to take a nap before exploring the city. When we were resting one of the housekeepers came in not knowing we were there. When she saw us she quietly left, turning out the light and closing the door. I don't want to have to do that! But sheesh, the staff is blasting music at 2am? Kind of insane. I love partying, but at least enforce SOME kind of quiet hours.
