Gayle and I returned to Fuente De almost 11 years after our last visit. During our May stay we…read moretook the nearby Teleferic up the mountain (in 4 minutes) and walked down to the Parador via a trail that took about 4 hours to complete. That included some winter-like weather on top, more ups than we expected, and light rain during most of the last half. About a third of the way down is the Hotel Áliva, of which Gayle and I stopped for coffee and a snack. Back in 2011, we decided not to take this trail as we arrived at Fuente De on a whim and weren't properly outfitted for a long hike. Coming back, we sort of expected a idyllic pastural walk, but that didn't quite turn out to be the case. Yet, we were happy we did it, really enjoyed the scenery, appreciated some map help by a French couple (who were really prepared), and felt really accomplished at the end. And we stayed 3 nights at the Parador de Fuente De. We drove in from Baiona (Atlantic Coast) on Day 1, took the Teleferic Hike on Day 2, and enjoyed a tour over mountain roads to the Cares Gorge on Day 3. And after that, we were off to San Sebastian. In between were a couple trips to Potes, an inspirational visit to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, and some local village and culinary exploration. The Parador? Marvelous! is huge mountain hotel, of which we had a really nice and comfortable room with a sitting room view (see picture). There are several spacious common areas, a inviting bar, and a nice restaurant. We weren't the only ones here, as the hotel seemed popular with the British motorcycle touring group. These folks were having a great time, and all we needed to do was hang out in the bar or linger in the breakfast room (which had a nice spread). The stunning outdoor and regional culture options here seemed endless and of we course just scratched the surface. I just hope we don't have to wait 11 years to come back again.

I had a very bad experience at hotel san zoilo…read more I was a pilgrim on the camino de Santiago and spend a night there. I was using a luggage service that moves my luggage from town to town as I walk. When the service came to pick up my luggage (I had already left and started walking) they refused to let my luggage go because there was a problem with the card I had used on booking. com to make the booking they said! Like that's a reason to "steal" the luggage! I walked for 6 hours and I arrive at another tiny town and my luggage is not here. I call them, I gave them a new card for the bill and then they refused to send the luggage at their own expense to my current location! This is a multi-million dollar company!. They got paid and they are refusing to provide even basic customer service. They definitely do not deserve to have a 4 star rating!. And upon further investigation the hotel room charge had gone through only the $12 breakfast did not go through!! You keep someone's luggage for $12? which i paid when they brought it to my attention A lot of the staff does not speak English either. My refrigerator in the room was not working and they charge me 2.50 for a piece of bread that I didn't Even ask for during dinner and which was starting to go stale

Most parts and people as I asked for directions, were kind of uninviting. The AC Burgos,is in the part of town you want to be in. It's situated on the tree lined Paseo de Isla which runs along the river, where you can enjoy a stroll, see the Cathedral de Burgos, and walk to the Plaza Mayor, from which a lot of great restaurants are reachable. It's easier to park on the street in Burgos than in other places, though at ~10E for the hotel parking, I thought it was well worth not wasting time looking for a public parking spot. The decor of the hotel business oriented, but was very nice.

After I checked out the concierge/customer support representative of the hotel, Annabelle, approached me and offered me some water for my trip (as I clearly had motorcycle bags with me), which was a nice touch. She then asked about my trip and when she found out that I am planning on staying at the NH hotel in Vigo offered to make the reservation for me, though I declined as I like to collect the points with the service that I use for booking. Maybe it was because when I was there, November 3 to 4, it was out of season. But I found the value I got for paying well under $100 incredible as NH hotels almost always have modern rooms, good room service and generally an enjoyable architecture. The parking is a bit cumbersome when you don't know it, but I suggest to contact the hotel first. Once you are in the parking garage (which is accessible from across the plaza) you can take an elevator right into the lobby. It is just not easy to get to the hotel by car (easy for me only because I was on a motorcycle) if you don't know the detail of going to the parking garage (find the NH hotel area and push the intercom button). Once you know it's easy, but I do recommend that the hotel proactively contacts people once they book to let them know the procedure about parking.
