This hostel had glowing reviews, a 88% approval rate, and basically was all the rage over the Interweb. I obviously don't function like the normal traveler then. Full disclosure: I have been living in an hostel which is closer to a 2-star-hotel, so my perception may be skewed. YMMV.
First, it's hard to find, especially dead in the night: it is BEHIND a hotel of the same name, and not accessible from the street, you have to pass through the parking lot of the hotel.
And then, they was no one to greet me. No reception after 9pm! My key and reservation were waiting on a desk, so thank heavens there were no dishonest backpackers that night. Some other night, I came back at around 7:30 pm to find the front door locked! Gee, thank god I had a key! I get spontaneous check-ins are a no-no here, and so are meals (reserve 10 days in advance!)
You'll find your bed in the shape it was left in by the previous occupant. In my case, that meant with the covers and pillows scattered all over, and 2 unhinged wood planks under the mattress. Bad night.
Everybody seems to love the service, I'm sure it's great, had I had some. The gentleman in the morning was nice enough, but it's all really uneven. I was hoping to get a towel in the morning, they hadn't come in yet. Fair enough, what about in the evening when I came back? All had been given! So 3 days and no shower. I felt horrible. Bleh. The breakfast offerings are alright, but wake up early, I don't have the impression that they fill back whatever has been taken away. The Wifi is pretty great, and should your room be close to the staircase, you'll get it in your room! For around 14 euros a night, I'm not sure you can expect better, but still. And be warned, the views are lovely, because there is strictly nothing around, which makes for a long commute. read more
