I was sexual harassed by an employee of Hostos college while working there. I reported it to the school safety sergeant but then delayed my statement for a day. The President of the college Daisy Cocco De Filippis never got back to me regarding disciplinary action, after he was found guilty of everything. I sent many emails but Eugene Sohn | Executive Counsel and Labor Designee and Philip Oliver Chief Diversity Officer, Title IX Coordinator and 504/ADA Coordinator and the President herself just ignored me repeatedly. Going into my 2nd trimester as a transfer student from LaGuardia CC and I highly dislike this school. The administration and staff mess up classes and online portal. Also professor are not held accountable for messing up classes enrollment. They give you the run around when you're trying to handle things at the school. They want you to go in person for everything and expect all students to live close to the school which isn't accurate. I can for the radiology tech program and after learning about the possible 1 year waitlist for the candidacy program I am planning to transfer out of all cuny schools after this trimester.The staff are also very rude and not helpful. read more

For going on 3 yrs they have had their cafeteria/dining/hot food services closed. This is not fair to the students who have double classes and esp those with special needs! Absolutely deplorable that a higher education complex doesn't have nourishment for the students. By the way, vending machines aren't nourishment and many of them there on campus take the students money and don't produce the food..plus that isn't hot, real food. read more

I wanted to like this school so bad. Some staff are nice and helpful. Administration takes so long with certain things, whether it's an application or whatever. You have to call repeatedly until someone finally answers. The lack of communication and efficiency in the administration can be frustrating for students. It would be beneficial for the school to improve their response time to inquiries and applications. I was thankful enough to finish my two years, but dealing with this made me want to quit so bad. It's very discouraging and can make students feel undervalued. Hopefully, the administration will take steps to address these issues because it is ridiculous. read more

I was a student here as it is convenient. You can email some of these departments till you turn BLUE and you won't get a response. You end up having to go in person on your day off and find that the office is closed. It feels tedious and frustrating when staff are supposed to be helping the student. The student turns out to be a nagger or nuisance because the individuals that are supposed to help you are not answering or no where to be found until you start cc: other coaches or office of academic. It turned out to be a wonderful experience for me because I was allowed to speak to the audience as an author. I rarely write reviews but I had to for this. If I could give it zero I would. Please DO NOT waste your time with this school. Advisement is horrible here, they do not care, you could call all day long to schedule an appointment and no responses to emails either, Many professors are often indifferent to their students' needs and concerns. My advisor messed me up on my career path by not letting me know that I wasn't accepted into the program until the last minute. Please do not waste your time with this school. read more

I would give zero stars if i could. I enrolled in the CNA program at hostos continuing ed; we started in Oct 2022 under the impression that the program would end in January. It is now April 2023 and we still haven't gotten our tests, and the credentials of the program ran out in Jan 2023. All my classmates are stuck in limbo, unable to get tested through prometric as a result. They also screwed up sending in the test fees. It's impossible to get ahold of the course organizers, and when asked they keep repeating that they are trying to resolve the issue, with no details to offer. Save your money and time, and look into other CNA programs if that's what you want. read more

If I could give it 0 stars! They hire some of the worst professors. I've literally heard a professor say you can complain all you want, no one can get me fired and threatened to fail the whole class. Maybe 2% of staff actually cares for students. Some professors think this is graduate school with all the work they give. It sets students up to fail honestly. I don't like a lot of the teachers and I feel they need more training or something because PhD doesn't mean anything when you have teachers that are that terrible. read more

Visited for a DOE conference (Building C). I honestly found this campus very nice. Clean, presentable, and friendly staff. It has a gym, cafe, swimming pool, auditorium in the same building. The classrooms seem well maintained too. Enjoyed my day here. read more

I took a winter course so I only know about Hostos before covid and briefly however, I was there five days a week so I'm valid enough to make a review. Right away 99% of the population is Dominican except for the staff. The class I took was very very simple and easy for it being Anthropology. This is a foundation kind of cuny so you'll be running into everyone you know and pass with flying colors if you just show up. The train station in front of the school is always packed so be aware of that and try not to go within rush hour. The police is always at the station which confirms with me that the area isn't the safest as it is in the south Bronx. Overall I recommend it seem really chill as Dominicans are lit ass ppl I feel as if it can be a good time when spending a semester there. read more

Dont bother. They have no interest in assisting you with your goals. If anything, seems as they want to hold you back. Staff never seems to know anything, you get bounced around and all communication is through email. I was so close to attaining my degree but due to made up protocols that can easily be resolved, they rather you jump through hoops than to help you succeed. Worst school ever. read more

I'm actually surprised to see these reviews. Hostos was nothing but amazing to me. I transferred to this school after a bad experience at another CUNY. I always feel CUNY workers can be so cranky like DMV workers haha. In Hostos I can't say people were rude, I only had one bad experience. Everyone was so helpful, they wanted me to graduate on time. I felt a very family environment at Hostos. The professors care but you have to as well don't blame the professors for your lack of work ethics. I saw that a lot from the students. Students who were there 2+years were the kind to pick classes and drop out mid semester. I only had one professor who was straight up unfair when she had her personal issues, Prof. Steinmayer. Other than her, every professor I had really cared about me and helped me stay motivated. I highly recommend Hostos! read more

Hostos is one of the greatest colleges in NY and anyone may easily admire it. Many professors are well educated, clear and knowledgeable. Also, there are many good places around to go eat. Let me preface by saying my review is based on accompanying my wife to gather info on language study. School is very disorganized when it comes to providing information. Security at front desk wants to be helpful but they dont know the current information and have no access to a directory or computer touch screen to access information. Such a simple remedy for such an important position. More importantly one student said that the teachers are good but that many students dont studio which leads to a poor classroom experience. I'm a Social Worker. A client of mine was applying to Hostos. Everyone in admissions was greatly helpful, and I even told my client that I hope she gets in because everyone is so nice. That was until we went to the building that houses the financial aid office. The security guard DELGADO was a mean, nasty SOB. Rude is an understatement. I came here to see the Alvin Ailey Junior division show. They are very organized and here's always security at the door. I was seated in the balcony area. If you're not afraid of heights then you're fine. The balcony area is narrow. The staff was decent. The lady's room was clean. I enjoyed my visit here. read more

I RARELY write reviews, but Hostos (Continuing ed/Certification Dept) is a waste of time. I'm highly disappointed in the communication with this school. I paid for the CNA course in August during Covid because 1. I lost my job and 2. I saw the uptick in healthcare positions needing to be filled. I figured a career change at this time would be good. I signed up and not one staff member let the class know that the clinical portion was on hold because of covid. When you sign up they give you the syllabus which has the dates listed for each portion of the class including the clinical portion. We are now in December and we have yet to move on to the clinical part! They conitnued to take more classes after ours and just have a pool of ppl in limbo waiting. They have no problem taking everyones money. I've emailed countless times for updates and keep getting a "few more weeks". I've asked for the directors info and I was told they gave him my info and will contact me. I've been waiting 3 months! Its sad because so many ppl invested their money into a program with nothing to show for it. I dont recommend taking any courses from them. read more

When I first started going her in spring 2014 they gave me the run around. Just tell me what I need to bring all together at once. Do your research. People are taking classes they don't need because advisement doesn't prepare them. I'm still here for pratical nursing and almost finish. A little background about my situation gives a clearer picture of my choice of stars. I am a "slightly older" student in my third semester at Hostos. I have four children and a husband at home. The transition of going back to school, working, and taking care of a family has been very difficult. The staff at Hostos (financial aid office, professors, and COPE/GSI program) have been an essential source of support and information. Once an individual enters college, he/she is considered an adult, there is no hand-holding. In order to get the help I needed, I had to reach out to people and know how to ask the right questions. I didn't automatically assume the staff was there to help me. The professors were very understanding when I had a hardship but it was because I reached out to each one. The college experience is only as good as you make it, and mine has been awesome! read more

This is the worst school in the world talk about money hungry, this school will set you up for failure and suck your financial aid dry. The staff has no idea what they are doing. They will charge you for everything beyond belief expensive! This is a 2 year school and I know ppl who said they have been here for 5-7 yrs how the hell ? My children went there for Summer Camp & Saturday classes for Math & Reading. No adult supervision and there's no communication between parents & Teachers. From 9am to 1pm the teachers are paid to sit and not doing anything. The children are running around the building. The kids program at Hostos Community College is a ZOO place, think twice before you send your children there. read more

This college is full of social services that not only help students and alumni but also help the community with those services. Beside it is a community college they do community service in the community which one is great because they spread the Give Back value. I went here twice to get my GED.I paid $250 the first time to sit in a math class to talk about politics 96%of the time .the teacher was taking the bar exam .I learned a lot about the teacher and his home life,his parents etc etc . whenever I would bring up math he would have a story about his self.he gave no information about the test.he did not prepare us for the test.all they want is that money read more

I wish I could give it no stars. The absolute worst place to get an education. Forget about ever trying to get anything done over the phone. Bursar/financial aid will almost never pick up and when they do you are guaranteed to be put on hold. If you are not hispanic forget about it you will be made to feel like you don't belong( because of the staff not the students). Very disorganized. you will be running from building with misinformation. My biggest gripe is with the costs. You would think a community college would be less costly but I left feeling scammed out of my money. Their Admissions Dept is lacking in many ways. Asking a question and trying to get an answer is painful. It seems that no one can coincide on a correct answer, and you're constantly being given the run arounds. The staff can be condescending at times as well. If it were not for traveling convenience only, I would not even dream of attending. The staff is so unprofressional and not one seem to speak proper english (at least those that I've encountered). I get it that they cater to mostly non-english speaking immigrant students , but this is foremost an Educational Institution which means that no matter what, the staff should be able to communicate effectively. Whoever is in charge should really analyze their staff !! It's a shame how an institution should be lacking in their first point of contact with the public.
