Its name might conjure images of children throwing small objects in the name of fun but Collingwood's Hot Potatoes, a $2 shop on steroids selling everything from placemats to dreamcatchers, is fun of an entirely different kind. The bargainously weird kind.
If I need something obscure - a mask in the likeness of a zombie cat for instance - and especially if I'm in need of something obscure and don't want to spend much money on it, I head to the small strip of otherwise trendy Smith Street that is home to a clutch of awesome $2 shops.
As Kate D. noted, Hot Potatoes is particularly good for hardware and I've often been to one of the electronics shops on Smith Street and spent a pretty penny on something mundane such as an extension cord only to find it miles cheaper at Hot Potatoes. A $2 no brainer, Hot Potatoes should be your first stop on Smith Street. read more
