Great experience with this glasses repair shop! The service was quick, professional, and the repair was done really well. I had a pair of Costa sunglasses that had been dropped and one Lense was cracked- the place I bought them from said replacement lenses were unavailable and I could buy a new pair for over $300 USD. The experience can be different at Hot Shots as you just walk in- get helped in the order you arrive, and there is very little back and forth. Just straightforward what do you need type interaction. It is very informal but that was OK with me. My glasses came back looking and functioning great the next day- new polarized lenses fit to my glasses for only $40. The process was efficient. Had completely forgot I had been there years ago when I just called the owner was so rude and told me why was he at the bottom of the list if I called so many people and they'd refer them to to him. It's really threw me off how rude he was and I told him so. He was argumentative and told me well so many people referred you to me. Why are we on the bottom of the list. I went into this store a little wary because of some of the reviews I had read beforehand. A lot of people mentioned that the owner could come across as a little rude or odd, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Even so, I decided to give it a try because no one else had been able to fix my glasses, and I had heard from multiple people that if anyone could repair them, it would be him. They weren't kidding. My glasses were completely broken in half, snapped right down the middle, and I honestly didn't think they were repairable. Somehow, he managed to fix them in about 10 minutes. I was genuinely impressed because they looked and felt usable again, and I didn't have to buy a whole new pair. Before he started, I was a little nervous about the cost since there weren't any prices posted anywhere. I assumed it was going to be expensive because of how badly my glasses were damaged and how quickly he was able to fix them. To my surprise, when he handed them back, he said it would only be $20. That was way more affordable than I expected and incredibly reasonable considering the repair. As for the customer service, it's definitely different from what some people might expect. I can understand why some reviews describe him as rude, but after interacting with him, I think he's just very straightforward and focused on the job. He's not the type to make a lot of small talk or be overly friendly, but he knows what he's doing. My advice would be to simply hand him your glasses, explain what you need fixed, and let him work. That's probably the easiest way to interact with him. Overall, my experience was great. Wow! I am in shock. I would not give this place even one star but in order to post this review, I had to select a star. I just called to ask if Hot Shots Eyeware Repair was open today since they were closed last Friday. Whoever answered the phone probably shouldn't have answered the phone since his response was Friday was a holiday and before I could ask what their hours were he hung up on me after I responded that some businesses were open on Friday. I was referred to Hot Shots Eyewear Repair in Carlsbad from Costco Optical in San Diego where I live. When I called to see if they have replacement arms for glasses because one of the arms broke off, the guy who answered sounded like I woke him up and was slow to respond. All he said was... 'we repair glasses'. I tried to get a simple yes or no answer to my question, but he kept giving me the same answer. Since I couldn't get a yes or no about them having spare arms, I rephrased my question to which he said...'you've said the same thing 3 times'. This guy is a genius, and I have been coming to him for years. Here's my latest interaction. Our over enthusiastic puppy jumped on me, ripping my glasses off, and damaging the arm so badly that it folded out and up, instead of in and down!! It was so bad that I worried that I'd need new glasses!". So I came to HotShots, and within 5 mins (maybe 2?), he had fixed them, saying "major repair, $5". FIVE DOLLARS!! So please ignore all the 1 star reviews, saying he is "weird", and "cold", and "rude". Maybe he's all of those, but everyone is different, and he doesn't deserve YOUR rudeness. Terrible Customer Service. Showed up there yesterday. No one was there. The business hours are not accurate. The lovely gentleman and neighbor in the business next-door told me that his hours are hit or miss so I waited there 20 minutes in the parking lot nobody ever unlocked the door even though all the lights were on. So I called and left a voicemail with my phone number to return the call back and let them know just to give me a call back when they might be open again. Never received any callbacks. So I called them this morning and politely asked if they were open today? and a very rude man answered and told me I am not supposed to speak to the Business Neighbors and that I could've avoided all this drama. 2025-0821 I called them asking if they repair prescription glasses which have a problem with the coating. He said they need to physically see them to confirm repair. I said ok, and wanted to confirm the address, which I had in my iPhone address book. He then said: Do you want me to give you the address or do you want some one else to give it to you. He then did not say a word as I kept asking him if he was still on the line. I waited a minute and then hung up. If the owner reads this, he needs to have a serious talk with his employee about attitude and customer service. This guy is amazing! He can repair the unrepairable! He is such a high level craftsman! My daughter slept on her glasses and severely bent one stem. When I tried to bend it back, it completely broke off. I figured it could not it be repaired, but I was wrong. I drove down from Orange County to get nose arm and pads put on my plastic frames. It is difficult to find nice plastic frames that have nose pads for those that have a low bridge. You have to have a lot of patience when you come. You have to know EXACTLY what you want done and EXACTLY what part you need replaced or put on. Be very very clear. He will not give you choices when you ask. He will only ask you what YOU want. Be patient and be kind. It is either YES or NO with him. If you challenge him for an answer, your experience can go very bad. He will do a great job on your glasses, and the prices are very reasonable. He fixes them on the spot within 15 minutes. This is where optometry offices send their glasses to for repair when needed for their customers. Limited parking so best bet is to park in the lot behind the shop or on the street. It was definitely worth the drive to have my glasses altered. read more
