I really hate to write this review because I've chartered a few times with Hot Spots over the past few years but today, I encountered one of the rudest guys and was really blown away by his attitude. I had a 6 hour private charter scheduled for me and my son for the 28th of this month. We come down for the PG World Series each year and close out our ball games with a fishing trip so as a mom, I plan ahead and booked this trip about a month or so ago. Because of all the rain forecasted, we decided to cancel this charter and take a trip to Tamarindo in July. I called to cancel the charter today, 9 days in advance and the guy laughed numerous times and said "that's 10 days away, but ok." I let him know I was well aware of the timeline and that we didn't want to take a chance on the rain. The possibility of storms was part of the reason but I also decided to just take a trip to Tamarindo and fish instead. The trip to Costa rica is 5 days and only $1700 more and we get a 10 hour fishing day so I thought it would be a cool experience for my son since he's already gone out with Hot Spots several times, this would be a little different. This review is based solely on the poor & rude service of the kid I spoke to today. I have had great experiences in the past but they were with Cash & Jason. read more

Bountiful morning of mostly catch-and-release fishing in the Guif of Mexico just off Pensacola Beach. Captain Daniel beelined from Shaggy's to the inlet and then out into the very tranquil Gulf for a great time. Fish of the day: a large amber jack. Runner up: a chunky remora with the coolest head. Also nice: a red-lipped lipstick fish. But the red snappers were plentiful as well, doing the food chain thing courtesy of the smaller catch. The season was open and apparently someone told the snapper. Average weight: eight or more pounds. Ambiance: a great boat on the open waters. A clever captain. All good. Service: Captain Daniel knew his spots and was an encyclopedia on marine life. We even saw about a dozen dolphin. Fi(ni)shing lines: this was our second time with Hot Spots and there will be more. Let me start by saying that this was a first for all four of us guys and we wasn't disappointed! We had this family vacation planned for a while and I wanted to have a guys day while we was on vacation. Well after looking for a few months I found Hot Sports charters on Fishing booker and decided to try them out. Very happy we did! Our captain was Evan Wheeler,this young man called the day before we went fishing to ask what I was hoping to experience/catch and to understand our group and experience levels of fishing skills. We had no salt water experience and he had took on the challenge head on. Evan was helpful and patient with us and made this experience fun and memorable. We wanted to catch whatever so Evan took us to try our luck on some speckled trout, and it was an exciting experience to say the least. We started fishing and on the first cast we had one on the hook. Total number of fish we kept was just one each although we caught more but out of conservation of the species we put the larger one (over 20 inches) back. Not an issue for us. Overall we enjoyed the fishing trip and would recommend giving Hot Sports charters a try. Plus we took what we caught that day to Shaggys restaurant right there off the docks and had them cook it for us!! Definitely a great decision. read more

My husband has wanted to go deep sea fishing his whole life and Captain Brad made his dream a reality. He took them out about 6 miles and they caught red snapper, mackerel and even ended up with a 3 ft shark but they obviously had to cut the line and let that one go. The Blue Angels were practicing and it was so neat to fish and watch them at the same time. Pricing was great and we highly recommend this charter company! Bring a cooler full of drinks and snacks and you'll have the time of your life! Afterward, we took our catch to the Frisky Dolphin and they cooked up our fish. Highly recommend doing this if you have the time! They also cleaned and bagged our extra fish and sent them home with us. read more

My nephews and I went out with Capt Jason and Saywer for a 6 hour deep sea fishing cruise and we couldn't have had a better experience. They were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. We caught our limit of red snapper, a small mountain of vermillion snapper and three scamp grouper. A great time and great memories of our trip!!! read more

You will not have a more exciting adventure than this! I booked an 8 hour off shore trip for my 8 year old son & I and we are 'hooked!' Every trip is different based on weather etc., but this one was for the books! Jason & Cash were very knowledgeable and friendly, they made my son & I feel right at home. Jason told us what we could expect to catch but even he and Cash were surprised when we hooked a 40" Cobia, a small shark and a couple of others (I don't remember the species) you don't get often! This was our first saltwater trip and I'll warn you, if you lack stamina & upper body strength, off shore ain't for you, try the in shore trip instead because this is a full workout! read more

Captain Luke took us on a five-hour in-shore excursion and got us on the fish right away! Caught fish all day. He even told us about some of the history of Fort McRee and Fort Pickins and described how the bay and the gulf interact. Really a great trip and one we would definitely repeat in the future. read more

Captain Jason and his deckhand Isaiah were great. They put us on the fish. These 2 were quick to make sure that we always had bait on our hooks. We caught many fish some were keepers and some weren't. Let's say our arms were sore from reeling so many fish. They made my dad's 73rd birthday a great experience. read more

We have gone on a couple of intercostal trips with Cpt. Dylan. Ever trip we catch lots of fish but more importantly we have a really good time. Most recently we were into white trout. We hit the limit for the day and it was just overall a great experience. We are planning a deep sea trip next, but only after it warms up. read more

Paying $800 for this was a joke. We had Bradley as our captain and do not recommend. We got there around 6:45 and headed out. No talking or informing us because of rough waters it was going to take longer to get out where he wanted to go. Only mentions once he was looking for live bait. Over an hour ride to get where we stopped and he just dropped the poles and didn't tell us what we were fishing for, just "Wait till the poles drop then reel." We got nothing in the boat ALL DAY. I understand it's not a guarantee to catch anything, but we asked multiple times if we could troll the beaches just to try and catch something. We were fighting Amberjacks which would break our lines and the captain even said his poles weren't equipped for them. So WHY stay out there all day? He finally headed in to troll the beaches, but never stopped and let us drop line, just cruised and then dropped us off at 11:45 with nothing. Very little conversation, not informative on what we were doing, what was going on, it felt like pulling teeth to get a conversation out of him. We had 2, 16 year old boys with us who were looking forward to this for months, and we all felt let down and underwhelmed with the experience. Should have taken the $800 and spend it on something else. read more

I called Hot Spot Charter after checking yelp and trip advisor reviews when we were in town for just a long weekend. Even though I called last minute (Saturday afternoon) to try and book a boat for Sunday morning, they were able to accommodate us with 3 kids for a half day trip. Great communication from booking to the captain calling the night prior to be sure he had the right equipment and also to update us on weather and what to bring. Captain Tyler grew up in Pensacola, and has fished there his entire life and was excellent with my family, put in extra time with us and we caught exactly what he predicted. Not the experience we had hoped for. My husband has wanted to go on a fishing excursion for years. We booked a trip while we were in Pensacola. Captain Luke took us out. He was very personable and tried many locations to get us on the fish. We had 6 people on our trip and only had 2 lines out the entire time. We caught 2 mackerel and 2 other fish that weren't keepers. It was a long 4 hours. My 2 kids were troopers but I was hoping we would have more action. It was disappointing to spend $700 on a fishing trip to see other photos of people coming back with loads of fish. I understand that you can't control the fish but that is their job. We did get to see one of the local dolphins and he came and swam with is for a bit. That was the highlight of our trip. Went out with Captain Bob on 4/3/18 and could not have had a better time. We tried a few different places and had success in all and then went to a few places where other boats didn't and caught a ton of fish. Captain Bob was not only a good guide with great knowledge of where to go and when to leave, but also a really good person. He was easy to speak with a very laid back attitude! Captain Bob made it super convenient for us by picking us up at the pier where we were staying at Portofino Island Resort. The captain was nice. The customer service was great. Coming from out of town they did a great job coordinating our trip. Gave 3 stars because we didn't have a great day on the water, but they seem to be very professional. We went on a 4hr nearshore trip with 3 guys. All of us have been on the water multiple times and never had problems. The water was VERY choppy (couldn't stand without holding onto something) and all 3 of us felt sick (again never happened before) and had to cut the trip short having tried 3 spots without a single bite. Captain was nice enough to offer to keep us out longer, until we caught something, but we were all feeling pretty sick. Was kind of hoping for at least a partial refund or an offer for a discounted future trip since our family comes to Pensacola annually and this trip was a big bust (choppy with no fish). Felt like maybe the water was a bit too rough for the size of the boat, next time may opt for a calmer inshore type trip (in hindsight). But again, the interactions with the people were great, we just didn't get the experience we had hoped for. read more

We chartered twice before a couple of years ago with Hot Spots and they were fantastic! This year we went out on three charters in a week with Hotspots, and all were exceptional! Captain Mike took us into the Gulf on a beautiful calm day. He was very professional and knowledgeable and put us on Spanish Mackerel, Snapper, Cobia, Flounder, and more. On the way back in, he spotted a big sea turtle and circled around so we could all see it--so cool! We caught more than enough for a fabulous lunch and had a blast doing it. There were some SE winds the day of our next charter with Captain Bob, so we stayed in the bay, which provided us with some amazing fishing!! My husband caught a Black Tip Shark and I got a beautiful Black Drum--in addition to the scores of Speckled Trout, White Trout, Snapper, Sail Cats and more. We caught so many fish that we lost count. Catching the shark was a real experience, and Captain Bob was as excited as we were--you can tell he loves what he does. We feasted on our catch, cooked up for us at The Sandbar, located right by the dock. It just doesn't get any better! Day three brought even more wind, so we headed into the bay with Captain Andy. My nephew caught a gigantic Black Drum, and we caught two more sharks--and again lost count of how many other fish we caught. Captain Andy was a lot of fun and we all had a terrific time. It's cool to see the Captains having as much fun as us--it's like fishing with friends! Can't wait til next time! read more

A buddy and I took a 4 hour charter out with Captain Mike this week and although the fishing was tough, we had a great time. Cpt. Mike was friendly and seemed very professional. The boat was smaller than I imagined and offered little shade but was very clean and organized. It fit our needs perfectly but could be cramped with more than four guests. The elements were very tough the morning we went out to fish. Tropical Storm Cindy had come through about five days earlier and just churned the water up to a brown soup. There were still some strong currents a few miles off shore that made it tough as well. Despite the tough conditions, we were able to catch some fish although most were out of season and unable to be kept. We caught a nice Spanish Mackerel early in the going by trolling just off shore. Later in the day we bottom fished and caught a decent sized Red Snapper and 3-4 Triggerfish but they were out of season. By watching the boats around us and looking at the other boats in the marina once we finished, it was obvious that few boats had much luck either. It was a bit comforting to find out that it wasn't just us. Cpt. Mike did an excellent job managing the tough conditions as best as he could and although we had little luck, he was courteous enough to knock off a percentage of our fee. I have no doubt that had the conditions been a bit better, we would have caught a lot of fish under Cpt. Mike's guide. I highly recommend this charter to anyone who is looking to book an in-shore or off-shore charter. read more

We've been on six trips over the years with Captain Tyler. We always come back with a haul of fish. Hot Spots does not disappoint.

We went out with 5 of us with captain Brad and had seas that weren't calm but definitely were not rough by any definition. By the time we got out 6 miles off shore in a bay boat not meant for going out that far, we were all drenched. It looked as though we had all taken showers in our clothes before we left. Our captain was the only one to catch a keeper snapper in a 6 hour trip while we caught a few snapper that were too short to keep. This would have been understandable because I know fishing isn't great everyday but when we got back to the dock, every other captain had caught the limit in keepers. I've been on numerous other charter boats but this is the first time using Hot Spot and needless to say we won't be back. There was no communication between the captains on making sure everyone caught fish between the charters so if you aren't catching fish, don't expect your captain to be calling the others to ask if they are too! read more

We booked a fishing charter for our last day on our vacation at 1pm. We received a text from "Captain Dylan" the day of pushing us back until 2pm and then later in the day pushed back to 3pm. There were 4 of us packed and ready to go waiting on the dock with our families waiting for us to depart for 2 hours (8 smaller children total). A few minutes to 3pm we received another text stating the captain was 15 minutes out and will be ready to depart 10-15 minutes after that only to be told he wasn't going back out when we arrived, 2 hours late!!! Claimed the water was too rough but yet the other captains had no problem picking their customers up and taking them out.... on time.... I don't want to kill the company because I don't know any other person besides this particular captain but if you spend the time and money on a fishing charter MAKE SURE you do not get "Captain Dylan". The gulf side got a little windy and some good size swells but we handled all that and caught some fish, then headed to a good spot to put some redfish in the boat...
