First time trying Hot Suppa in Portland and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered the whole pork egg sandwich (without the egg) and it was absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked pork with great flavor in every bite. I also tried a bite of the biscuits and gravy at the table and they were rich, comforting, and seriously tasty. The drinks were just as impressive. The espresso martini was perfectly balanced, and even the mocktail was refreshing and well made. And our waitress was the sweetest (and honestly the prettiest!). She was so warm and friendly that I'd come back just to chat with her again. Great service, great food, great experience overall. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Portland. read more

We've been trying to visit Hot Suppa during our past few trips to Portland, but never really had a chance to. When we finally came during the off season, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity since wait times were shorter. The wait on a Saturday afternoon was about 15-20 minutes. I will say - I had high hopes for Hot Suppa. Between my fiance and I, we ordered the waffle, side of corned beef hash, and the fried green tomatoes eggs benny. The corned beef hash here is excellent - that I do have to acknowledge. I was a bit underwhelmed by the fried green tomatoes though. The tomatoes were just okay, but the excessive hollandaise sauce really just made the whole dish waaay too heavy. It was also just messy. Service was slow & our waitress tended to disappear for long periods of time. Coffee & water refills both took a long time. Parking here is difficult but not impossible. Hot Supper in Portland absolutely crushed it. Everything about the place was awesome -- the vibe, the service, and especially the food. I had the biscuits and gravy and they were unreal... rich, perfectly seasoned, and honestly some of the best I've had in a long time. Decided to head over to Hot Suppa for brunch after reading online reviews hyping it up. It was a bit of a walk from our hotel on the waterfront, and the scenery changed the closer we got to it - felt a little sketchy / not the prettiest neighborhood. They don't take reservations, nor do they have a wait system. The hostess took my name and said there was about 20-minute wait, however she wouldn't be able to call or text when a table became available - I should just come back in about 15-20 minutes, so that's what we did. After we were seated around 1 pm, the place did clear out a lot. It's not very big inside so it wouldn't be good for large groups. They have very tall ceilings so the acoustics were on the louder side. I decided on the scrambalaya for my main with hash browns. The scramble was tasty and their hash browns are incredible. My husband got a special eggs benefit with pulled pork & fried green tomatoes. He enjoyed it but it was a huge portion - he could not finish it. Many of the plates coming out were large portions. Great breakfast spot! We were able to get seated right away at the bar which I love because the bars are always so intimate and cozy. We had their most talked about fried green tomatoes with remoulade sauce and it was so good! I can see why everyone likes this. It was crispy, light, and not at all greasy or heavy. It paired so well with that sauce. We also had the Local Mushroom scramble and wow! It was creamy and velvety with a rich mushroom flavor. Every bite was smooth and perfectly balanced. The "Hollis" is a dish that you just can't go wrong with. I wanted something simple, and this was the perfect example of simple and delicious! The eggs were fluffy and perfectly scrambled. The hash browns on both dishes were great, but I personally would want it crispier. I also got fruits on the side and this just amazed me. The blueberries and blackberries were so fresh and naturally sweet that I had to ask where they got this from. Went in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch, the wait was about 45 minutes, but that wasn't terrible, I just ran an errand and then went back. When we got back, we were seated immediately at the bar. The bartender and the servers that were around us were super nice. I had several conversations going with them and they were friendly and funny. I really enjoyed that. My drink was perfect. My food was delicious. It is small in there, but it feels homey. It's a great atmosphere because everybody is in a good mood and everybody seems to get along really well. we were stopped in Portland on a cruise ship. And we wanted something a little bit better than buffet food for breakfast so we found the reviews for this place and it was about a mile and a half walk from our ship. We got there at about 830 on a Friday morning and there was a 40 minute wait. Right next-door they had a Walgreens that we needed some stuff for shipping anyway, and it was actually only about a 30 minute wait We were sat and our waitress quickly came up after we were sad. I ordered regular coffee, which was quite fabulous for regular drip coffee. I ordered the regular eggs Benedict and after I did, I kind of regretted it and wish I would've changed it to the pulled pork Benedict. I noticed the table next to me had grits that looked like the best grits I've ever seen in my life it was a mix of white and yellow and so I ordered the grits with cheese My husband ordered the corn beef hash with two eggs over easy and toast and hashbrowns - the corn beef hash was definitely made in house and it had lots of real corn beef in it and it wasn't greasy. It was perfect and the hashbrowns were also delicious. The woman stated that typically they also have some tables outside, but somebody had called in sick that day because I can't imagine what the weight would be on a Saturday morning, but it was definitely worth the trip Hindsight, I wish I would've gotten the mushroom scramble, but if I ever find myself in Portland, Maine, I will definitely either get their scrambled of the day or if they have the mushroom scramble. read more

The windows were pretty tinted, so it was hard to get a feel for the place from the outside, but we're so glad we took a chance. It's great for breakfast and lunch and you may want to get there on the early side as there can be a wait for a table as the place isn't too big. They have a cute bar/counter area where you can dine in too. I had for breakfast an i ed latte that was nothing special and to eat I had eggs Benedict with avocado and tomatoes on it. The tomatoes looked a bit not too good so I removed it but the eggs and avocado were better. It comes with a large piece of hash brown too. Nice, except one person in our group has a back condition and the chairs were so uncomfortable that they and their spouse had to leave immediately after sitting down. My spouse and I stayed, and I got the corned beef hash with poached eggs. It was good. I thought the coffee was mediocre, but I might just be picky about coffee. (Tandem Coffee is across the street, so get your coffee from there before or after your meal here.) This seemed like a nice, homestyle diner. I'm a fan of sitting for breakfast when I'm traveling, so I thought it would be perfect to check this place out one morning during my recent trip to Maine, so off we went. Hot Suppa is located on Congress Street in Portland's West End. It's housed in a Victorian-style house and specializes in Southern cuisine. Since I heard this was a popular spot and did not take reservations, we planned to be there at 8am opening; there were a few people ahead of us waiting but we were seated right away. The restaurant itself is smaller than I had expected - the dining room is to the side once you enter and maybe has 10 or so tables; there is also a small bar with stool seating and a patio for outdoor dining. The decor was somewhat eclectic - being in a Victorian home there were high ceilings, but there was also some tasteful decor and exposed brick which added to the casual feel of the space. The menu consists of breakfast and lunch items - note the restaurant is open from 8am to 2pm but you can get breakfast or lunch items whenever. Since we were there at 8am I opted for breakfast - the waffle plate looked good so I went with that (I'm a sucker for waffles). In addition to the aforementioned carb, the dish came with either bacon, Canadian bacon, or sausage (I chose bacon) and eggs any style (I chose sunny-side up). I thought the dish was solid - the waffle was thin-pressed which gave it that old-school feel, and the complements were perfectly portioned and really completed my meal. Service was good - everyone we interacted with was really friendly, and overall I enjoyed my experience at Hot Suppa. I could tell the food was high-quality, and this seems to be a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The setting is quaint and cozy, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. We started off with a vanilla latte and a hot chai, both of which were milky, frothy and everything I want in a morning beverage. For the food, we ordered the mushroom omelette, which our server was excited to show us photos of the fresh mushroom medley they had just gotten in from a local farm that morning. The omelette came with a kale salad (upon request), which had a Caesar-like dressing and was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms in the omelette were a perfect addition. I think in the future I would wait for a table to open up instead. We both tried their special apple cider mimosa which was decent but likely would pass on next time. Food wise was tough to pick as quite a few options sounded tempting but I could not pass up on their special thanksgiving Benedict and it was very tasty! My fiancée got their popular fried green tomato Benedict due to craving it since our last trip down South. Similarly I was pleased to see they had grits and I had a similar reason for craving those.
