I normally try and eat here about 5 times a year mostly during holidays and special events, the food is to die for and that is my opinion. Outside it looks like a typical German restaurant but in the interior is very chic, conservative and very formal. It also has been recently renovated which give it a really fresh outlook. Next to the restaurant is the hotel, parking is just outside and they also have an outside terrace, Service is really on the button here, and the manager, host and waiters really know their job and roles and how to perform. The food is 5 stars, really delicious and really different, in my opinions it's really good to go all out here, everything is mostly a la carte but they do have a set gourmet menu, but you can pick and choose and combine both a la carte and gourmet to how you want it. Tell them what you don't, or cannot eat and they will perform little miracles. The wine list is supreme and the manager is really good in helping you choose and what you want to drink it with, he gives his recommendation and they are never wrong. This has to be one of my very favourite restaurants in cologne, brings back allot of good and old memories. It is very high end but well worth it in my opinion, another tip if your booking for a Sunday lunch then book well in advance. I highly recommend you dine here.

The then archbishop of Cologne, Dr. Karl Joseph Schulte (1871-1941) - Archbishop of Cologne from…read more1920 to 1941 (from 1921 Cardinal of the Diocese) - built the house in the years 1926 to 1929 to the plans of architect Bernhard Rotterdamm in Bensberg as a priestly seminary of the Archbishopric of Cologne. The foundation was laid on June 29, 1926, by Nuncius Pacelli, who later became Pope Pius XII. It also served as an allied forces and war hospital during WWII. This is now a center for learning and assembly as well as a hotel and conference center. I found this hotel when looking for a place to stay and decided to book here. It's located on a large piece of land and it's a huge building just a short distance from the center of town in Bensberg. The rooms are fairly basic but clean and fully renovated in 2014 or 2015. The staff are very friendly and reception was quick to book us in. It's a functional room and has most things you need for a short stay. Prices are reasonable and no credit card is required for booking or check in. Buffet breakfast is included with the room price and they have a 24 hour reception. The breakfast was quite ok and had plenty of options from continental to cooked food. All in all a nice place and I would happily come here again anytime.

First Holiday Inn experience overseas. Not horrible…read more AC blew warm but then it is May so they might not have it switched to cool yet. Double bed was hard along with pillows. Made for a not pleasant nights sleep. Couch bed was pulled out and made up for our girls when we got there. Yay! Very happily surprised when we walked into that. Hotel had a small ice machine on 0 floor next to the elevator. Inside hotel was clean and quiet. Dennis on desk when we checked in was super helpful and friendly! And this morning when we checked out the Girl was friendly, Kasia I think her name was. Breakfast was a European breakfast which is still taking some getting used to for us Americans. Room temperature ham and cheese, yogurts, a few cold cereals to choose from, croissants, chocolate crosswinds yesterday that were the best! There is a pancake machine in the back corner, the the adjoining room. Hot drink machine, tea bags, 3 juices, 2 milks, and water for the drink options. Hotel doesn't seem to be in the best area but we have definitely stayed in shadier areas. Overall, we were happy. Got a great deal on IHG.com and will keep this hotel in mind when coming back. If driving yourself then it was pretty easy to get to the chocolate museum parking garage which is where we parked for the day. Parking was €10 per night. We paid it up front and then when we left they scanned our ticket so we could leave the parking lot.

I would suggest finding lodging in city center. Cab is $15-2o Euro Bus is 13 Euro family pass for one day. Walk to bus deemed unsafe for solo travelers, esp female. (- -) air blew warm all night. Very uncomfortably warm - like getting stuck in a hot car with the windows rolled up. Front desk girl cannot "do anything" because I booked via a service. Still, she is kind and wanting to help.
