Even when I couldn't call in after school I would wave through the window. After not being in for a while, when I finally did I was made to feel very special. As he said I was a very polite, well mannered girl. The buns are most defiantly the best also at amazing prices. I would defiantly recommend this bakery to anyone!

There is something very comforting about bakeries and the smell of bread and buns, it's obviously the insecure over-eater in me coming through there, but there really is. They've got lots of little cakes and buns in the window to pull you in and the usual display cases with coconut rings, éclairs and jam tarts and apple pies and so forth to choose from. I got a cream-filled coconut finger with the traditional radioactive red jam blob on the top and it was MASSIVE and it was only 60p!!! I had to stop myself from buying anything else. The girl at the till was really pleasant too and made some conversation. I would call in here again soon, but I'm really starting to worry about my 'aul figure!

It was early, bright and warm and my initial focus was Hotel Chocolat for a great flat white. All the staff there are charming. Now, like it or not, as a customer I do like a tad of courtesy and an occasional smile when I'm out shopping - and especially in hospitality. Not much to ask for, I'm a please and thank you shopper and when I don't get it I usually brush it off but here irritated me yesterday (12 August 22). As I said the free pastry deal required £3.45 for the offered coffee and my choice of an almond croissant but I wouldn't return here. M&S do a far better almond croissant for £1. So the PV coffee was good but not great. 3 star. The PV almond croissant was a doughy 2 star and would benefit from lightness and more almond it's more a croissant that may contain almond. The server and service were both grim and minus 5 star and no one should need training to be courteous and mannerly. I stood inside for a few minutes. the only customer, I could see the young lady who was doing something several feet away. I expected her to come along to serve me but as I stood and waited she continued whatever she was doing. So I cleared my throat and coughed and my my dimensions I'm not quiet and at 6' 4 I'm hard to miss. But no reaction and no service so I coughed again - a real bad flu type but nowt. After several minutes coughing and throat clearing I just said loudly hello. It worked but as she approached she offered no greeting, no smile it was simply what do you want, so I chose my pastry and she made the coffee and bagged to pastry all while looking around and it was as if I wasn't there. I paid and she returned to what she was doing and here's what bugged me and tipped it over. I walked to a table to put the bagged croissant into my rucksack and she loudly snarled at me to tell me I'd ordered takeaway and had to go - that's how it came across - as if I was stealing the sugar. I simply noted I was bagging up the croissant and she did not say anything more. I left thinking wow that's not acceptable and downright ill mannered. No wonder I was the only customer there for quite a time. I went into Hotel Chocolat a few minutes away joined a queue and got a great coffee and a warm welcome. If you like ill-mannered, unpleasant staff and shoddy treatment this PV store will be right up your street if your not asked to leave oh and if you don't the good news Is there's an alternative is two minutes away.

COMB make the best sweet treats I have ever tasted. I love their chocolate courgette cake, coconut raspberry slices, chocolate walnut slices, salted caramel brownies, peanut butter balls and Anzac biscuits. In fact I love every single COMB item I've tried. This bakery produce items to such a high standard that I personally think no other bakery compares. What I find really mind blowing is that COMB treats are both Vegan and coeliac friendly and yet they are unbelievably luscious. Delicious, decadent, indulgent, satisfying and fantastically feel-good baked treats. I simply cannot describe how great COMB cakes are, instead I strongly recommend you try them out for yourself and the taste will say it all.

Eventually it opened and became a welcome addition to the city centre. I worked my way around the flavours, generally only taking two of them or even just one. Of all the toppings, I only tend to go for blueberries (and occasionally, kiwi) and nuts. Actually, I don't really want a lot of the froyo because I'm as prone to headaches as I am with ice cream. No, I just want a little froyo as a topping for the blueberries and nuts. Now somebody mentioned spillage. Well, after a little experimentation, I soon realized that the thing to do is to put as much of the nuts and blueberries into the tub first and then literally squirt the froyo as a topping. If only the nut spillers referred to in the other review would do the same, there wouldn't be such a cross contamination risk as the froyo on top just sits there, unless of course you have too much for the size of the tub. I didn't do it today, though, as it doesn't make a very good photo that way.

I visited last week and thoroughly enjoyed it, trying the dairy free lemon (quite tarte) and watermelon (sweet tasting) options which the staff told me were dairy free because they are fruit based sorbets. These sorbets have a richer, creamier consistency than traditional sorbet, being more like whipped ice cream. All the usual toppings are available ranging from healthy fruits to sweets and chocolates. I did notice there seemed to be fewer flavour options in the city centre location than at Newtownards Road. Perhaps more seating space and less dispensing machines. I will definitely return, but as it's now October, it may be the summer months before I visit this or any other frozen yogurt bar again. The novelty of frozen yogurt is beginning to wear off a bit for me. Also who wants to eat such cold food during icy winter months?! Fabulous when summer sun is shining, but possibly not an all year round activity. Maybe they should diversify into mulled wine over winter time...

That said there aren't as many chocolatiers as there are bun makers (I'm not sure if that's their preferred title but I think it's suitably fitting). This little stall, Holdens Belgian Chocolates is an importing of some of Belgian's finest little sugary exports. I would say that its fine brewing heritage would take precedent in my opinion but Belgian is also always going to be famous for its chocolate (that and its less well known as the only country in the world with a fully illuminated motorway system) I sampled a couple of the chocolates on offer, the first being an orange praline with dark chocolate. Orange and chocolate will always be a fantastic combination and this devilishly bitter morsel is no exception. I also had a go at a coffee ganache. It was brilliant, not the usual coffee flavouring but a richer smokier flavour akin to actual coffee as opposed to the ones you fine in a box of Roses (or Quality Street, I can't remember) There's a fantastic range available, from white to dark, marzipan (shudder) to minted milk. You can get a selection in boxes of eight or buy larger gift boxes too. Although it's a seriously over used phrase this is certainly one of the chocaholics among you.

I remember making them with a blender back in my day and there began my craving for milkshakes. As I was on like a year detox, I came across this place and thought "you know what? I can do this". I had one. And another one. And now I want more. I'm not quite going to go on a rampage, but I'm not far off it. The cookies are nice, soft and there is a massive selection. There is an even bigger selection of milkshakes. And if it becomes my goal in life, I will try to finish this entire menu. Despite it's hideous location down a side-street, it is fantastic.

Barnams World of Ice Cream's a brand new addition to Stranmillis having opened a couple weeks ago…read more A small, traditional-style ice cream parlour with limited seating but a huge range of ice cream flavours. I visited today, Thursday 7 July 2016 and ordered a 2 scoop tub of ice cream which cost £2.00. These lemon meringue and Turkish delight flavoured scoops were soft, tasty and extremely sweet. I noticed 3 dairy-free sorbets offered as well in tropical, blackcurrant and lemon flavour, which I plan on trying over the summer months. Great for curing a sweet-tooth craving on a summer day.
