They have done a very good job of combining old and new. We booked a "Design Suite" for the night. There was a 35 euro charge for our two dogs. They supplied beds and bowls. Reception had changed our room to a ground floor because of our dogs, which made it easier to take them out at night and in the morning. The beds were size appropriate for each of our dogs. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens. There were some expensive pieces in the room, like the Dolce & Gabbana chair. However, a pet peeve of mine is when hotel room design does not take into account how people will actually use the room. With our room, there was a large table that blocked outlets so I had to move the table to charge my phone. There should have either been a smaller bed side table or moved the outlets higher. The bathroom was very nice. Great shower and a Japanese toilet! The gardens and grounds are stunning. The gardens have numerous fruit trees that were laden with citrus and they face a vineyard. Breakfast was stellar. There was a selection of cakes, breads, fruit (really great selection), cheese, yogurt, meats, etc. It is a very large property and it is clear why they host more than 40 weddings per year. The staff was friendly and helpful. They offered a tour of the grounds, as well as a wine tasting. A word of warning - there is a pig farm nearby and it smelled very farmy when we arrived.

They also gave us a little history on this hotel, which she used to be a non-convent for monks and nuns. I was built in the 15th century and the room used to be monks cells. I love history so I very much appreciate it hearing about this! The hotel is located right in the center of everything so you can walk everywhere. Right next to it our Roman ruins from BC. If you love history, this is for you.

Miguel and Ana were exceptionally attentive hosts, and the property is absolutely pristine--bright, airy, and completely spotless. I loved that everything was within walking distance, from charming shops to delicious eateries as well as a variety of activities. The kitchen was a standout feature for me. Loved making dinner and then going out to explore the town. This stay was the perfect peaceful and relaxing retreat. Would definitely come back again next time I visit Portugal!

Brand new house two floors could accommodate 6 people but we just needed space for 2! It's in the heart of the "City Wall Fortress" and walking distance to so many amazing restaurants and food! We visited Diana's Temple, Chapel of Bones. The locals were so down to earth, polite and the restaurants were delish! I really enjoyed my stay here. I wish I could stay longer but off to the next destination!

If you are looking for a hotel with a fantastic location for a good price and are prepared for a bit of compromise, it is a great choice...
