I spent about 3 months researching hotel
accommodations in Guanajuato. Hotel de la Paz is one of four hotels that offers AC. This is important especially during the summer months. Another important fact is that Hotel de la Paz is not in the park area. It's about 3 blocks from the centro histórico district. Why is this important? It's important because you need your sleep. If you stay in centro histórico, it's very loud even on the weekdays add to that you need the windows or the balcony open for air and it's freaking loud.
By default, Hotel de la Paz was our only choice. We booked, then cancelled, then changed the dates, rebooked, cancelled, and finally set the dates all through Booking Dot Com.
Hotel de la Paz has an elevator which is great when you're dragging your luggage. The front desk team has a small fridge where you can store small items. This was helpful for us as we had some vegan items that required refrigeration.
We were on thr 1st floor room 5. It's big and it does have a balcony but you got be a size Small to fit. The balcony in our way faced an empty closed building and not exactly what I had in mind when booking. In retrospect, I would not recommend the balcony unless you're an Instagramer who can produce beautifully flowing digital content with Edith Pilaf playing in the background. Sorry, that's not me and I have no regrets saying as much.
Location wise, Hotel de la Paz is ideal. It's really the Goldilocks, as just right.
A couple of notes.
You will smell a bad water smell. This is typical of all Guanajuato not just one particular hotel.
The free breakfast was one of the worst breakfasts we ever had. Do yourself a favor and give away your coupons or just rip them up. The breakfast is at another hotel, an affiliate, and it's zero stars. You'll thank me later.
The AC does work but it takes time for it get going.
I'm summary, you may be able to do better but playing it safe and staying at Hotel de la Paz was the way to go for us. I'm glad we stayed and we did enjoy our stay. read more
