The common areas are gorgeous including the dining room, the outdoor patio, and the pools. The views from the patio and pools are breathtaking. They have two pools including a saltwater infinity pool. They even have their own small private beach too. The beach isn't as impressive as the local beaches within a short drive but it's a nice option if you don't feel like driving someplace. Each room has a balcony, some of which overlook the ocean. Our room was super clean, included a mini fridge, and the bed was really comfy. Maids came in daily to do morning cleanings as well as turn down service. They have free parking and free breakfast. The breakfast buffet was great with an assortment of delicious pastries and breads plus eggs and cooked prosciutto for us Americans. The bar is open throughout the day and you can order a cocktail to enjoy on the patio where they'll give you some free snacks or you can take it in a plastic cup to enjoy poolside. A couple things I'd change about the hotel: - Provide free water! It'd be so lovely to see water offered for free in the mini fridge in the room, at the bar, or even in a water cooler at the front desk. The staff recommended not drinking from the tap water so it seemed crazy to have to pay for water everyday. I know this is probably customary for Italy but it would've been a really nice touch. - The one time we got dinner at the hotel (because it was downpouring outside) the service was extremely slow and disjointed. The food was mediocre and not worth the wait. - During breakfast, there is one communal coffee machine. It made pretty good coffee including Americanos, cappuccinos, etc. but since there was just one, there was always a line and it sometimes malfunctioned from overuse. - There is no kids area or kids pool so if you're trying to relax by the pool, you may have to deal with screaming children. Overall, I'd probably stay here again because it had great amenities, was clean, and the staff was always really nice. However, I'd love to see some of the minor details improved upon to further elevate the stay.

On check-in, there was only 1 staff member who left us waiting for 20mins while she tried to log on to some website for another guest. The first room we were shown had 1 completely mouldy wall so we took all our luggage back to the main reception area to ask for a new room. She first said she didn't have another room available but this wasn't main season, hardly anyone stayed there that week. Taking again all our luggage to the second room, it turned out this room wasn't made. Again, down the steps with all our suitcases, hungry and tired and very annoyed at that stage, we were given another room and did the same spiel yet again. Besides from the very drainy smell in the bathroom, the room was okay so we decided to settle in. For a 4 star hotel, the rooms are very very basic, the bathroom wasnt even stocked with soap or showel gel and the cobwebs hadnt been removed in quite some time. An overall very disappointing start to our holidays. The onsite restaurant didnt help matters either, with staff who are so set in their old ways that they couldnt cope with us not having made a reservation for the restaurant albeit only 10 out of 150 tables were taken as not very many guests stayed in the hotel. I felt propelled back to the 80s but not in a good way. The menu didnt have any prices displayed, we asked twice for the wine list, our waiter was condescending and the whole thing as just soulless. We quickly decided to not eat there again. If you decided to do just that you definitely need a car. The hotel is located so remotely, there is only 1 other restaurant within 15minute walking distance but that is 15mins on a dark country road by foot. Totally worth the effort by the way. The facilities on the premises are very good though. There are two tennis courts and they rent out decent rackets and balls. You can also rent a canoe or cayak for free for 30mins (10Euro after that) and mountain bikes for 10Euro per day. Other than that there's the pool (freezing cold water) and the sea (warmer than the pool). There is a bar that closes at midnight which sells coffee, wine, cocktails (Irish prices) and the leftover cake and croissants from the breakfast buffet. They also do sandwiches but we didnt try them. The breakfast buffet was very good. Fresh fruit, yogurts, cereal, juices, eggs, cold meats and cheese, breadrolls and cakes...there was something for everyone. The bar staff would make cappuccinos and espressos on order but often it was impossible to get the staff's attention to actually order something. I wonder how they cope during high season. What really quickly got the staff's attention, was people trying to sit where ever they wanted. That they really didnt like. The first day I asked whether I can sit anywhere but after I chose my table, I was asked to move somewhere else. This I witnessed happening every morning with several families to the extent that it almost amused me and I toyed with idea to sit on the 'forbidden table' on purpose. Overall, if you only want to hang out at the beach and not move about much and you don't mind the small and somewhat crappy rooms and spending a ridiculous amount of money on mediocre food and drinks then this place is for you. If you like variety, comfort and like to be independent, then you either need a car or stay somewhere that's closer to at least one shop that sells water and local wine.

The boat offers a relax tour around capo caccia as well as diving coves around there. None of us is a diver so we chose the relax tour at first. I got interested by the diving offering so i asked if a newbie could do some scuba diving as well. I already snorkeled all beaches there so i wanted more. I got a very good treatment from the guys on the ship, well instructed, and was really having 20 minutes dive down to 5 meters. I should mention their english is not the best so i was happy we had somebody capable of translating all instructions. The exciting diving trip ended right on time for lunch with plenty of wine, water, pasta and seafood. We men sticked to salad and pasta al pesto as none fish eaters the girls went for fish. All food was really nice and as mentioned plenty. Finally we got served some local mirto liquor. The tour itself was marvelous, the nature there is something special. The crew was friendly and funny and already before the tour they made a good uncomplicate and honest impression. If you stay in this region do the trip!

The lobby and hallways look recently updated with rich warm wood and a Spence of elegance and luxury. We saw one of the corner suites which had been updated that was super big and nice. Our room, 521, was large with a view of the large inviting pool and rocky coastline. The bathroom was large with a great rain shower, double sinks and plenty of room while the bedroom with king bed was spacious too. The furnishings seemed a bit drab given the look and feel of the lobby and halls. The low bed was quite firm as were the pillows but the quiet AC did a nice job of keeping things cool so I slept quite well. Parking for or car was free in a small lot next to the hotel. The price wasn't too bad and included breakfast although the sprawling buffet seemed more focused on quantities than quality to me. A pleasant one night stay.

It's an easy walk into town. I suggest it. Walk along the path by the water to the right. You will find hidden bars and cafes along the way, you don't want to miss. Wear you bathing suit as you walk because some of the cafes by the water are establishments providing lounge chairs and sunbathing while being served for a small fee.

Villa las Tronas is a small hotel with some long history that dates back to 1880 when the villa "castle" like was built. Italian royalty used to stay there. When the private villa turned in to the hotel - in 1959, among first clients were Samuel Beckett, Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. There is a swimming pool and most of guests prefer to stay in that area. Their beach is very authentic and I love it a lot. They put special stairs so you get in the water safe among the rocks and have a beautiful swim. But if it's stormy - then you're not lucky to get into the water. There are a couple of sophisticated suits which I recommend. Most of the rooms overlook the sea and if you have a balcony - it's really a view. The personnel all these years are mostly the same, they are like family. We always have a late evening flight and when they are not fully booked they do everything to comfort you and either keep your room for a late checkout or transfer you to another room if yours is already booked. Very nice and sympathetic people. Breakfast is very good: buffet offers all typical selection, except for the smoked salmon and Champagne. There are few dishes in the menu that are some extra, like different kinds of omelet etc. Great appetizing super fresh croissants and swell cheese selection. Lunch and dinner are served in their restaurant too and have to mention - that it's one of the best restaurant in Alghero, may be even the very best for the cuisine, the ambient, the view. And they are very flexible - that's what I appreciate a lot: if you ask to cook something that is not on the menu or to change something in the dish, like instead of seafood pasta make a risotto, they are willing to do that. Gym is in another small building as well as SPA. Though gym is pretty tiny, it has all basic things you might need. I would change few cardios though and add some new ones. They have SPA services by appointment and there is another indoor swimming pool and sauna there. They don't do turn down service. They used to, may be even a year ago, but this year they stopped, I don't know why. I like turn down service and I think that in 5 star hotels it's essential: it's always a pleasure when you have fresh towels and cozy bed ready for you to get in.
